software phones for Asterisk - is there a list?
Hello,
Is there a list of software phones which will work with Asterisk?
For Linux and Windows?
I don't have any hardware yet, and before I buy anything I would like to
know how Asterisk really works (with software "phones" for example).

Samba PDC in many branch offices + one LDAP database - how to change passwords?
Hello,
I just configured Samba 3 PDC + LDAP.
The aim is to have a Samba 3 PDC + LDAP in each branch office; and there
should be one user/password database.
There are about 20 branch offices in different locations and users
travel a lot between them with laptops.
Each branch office has a below configuration:
- Samba 3 PDC
- slave OpenLDAP server
There is also one central user/password

Problem Connecting to Samba-OpenLDAP PDC
I have made some changes to try and get the PDC working and now I am
down to one thing where I believe the problem lies. All such
documents on the setup show that the addition of users to the PDC
should be added to passwd as well as LDAP but for my system that is
not the case. I am running the listed software:
Fedora Core 4
OpenLDAP 2.2.23
Samba 3.0.14a
This is what currently happens when I

chan_capi on 2.6 - impossible?
Hello,
I'm trying to get my Eicon Diva 2.01 PCI ISDN card working with Asterisk
and was told that I still have some chance if I tried using chan_capi.
I tried compiling it (chan_capi) on two systems running 2.6 kernels, but
got lots of errors.
Before I go investigating - is it possible to compile chan_capi on 2.6
kernels?
Or does it work with 2.4 ones only?

run a script with "administrator" credentials?
I saw Active Directory a bit today and was impressed with the ease one
can manage many Windows workstations with that.
Especially I liked the software installation (too bad it can install MSI
packages only) and the ability to run custom scripts on the workstations
(when the boot up etc.).
Is it possible to run a custom script for a given machine when it boots
up (that is already joined to

two way synchronization with rsync?
I have two offices in one city; employees work in both of them (once in
office A, the next or an hour later in office B etc.).
They would like to have the same profile (i.e., if they log off in
office A, they would like to have their documents, Desktop, emails etc.
in the profile in the office B when they arrive there an hour later).
Is it possible with rsync to construct such a "two way

PDC, BDCs - how do you synchronize roaming profiles?
Hello,
I'm about to deploy Samba PDC and several BDCs.
As far as I understand Samba and domain logons, this means that a user
will be able to log onto any server, with his workstation choosing a
domain controller that is probably the closest/fastest etc. one.
As a consequence, this also means, that on each server there has to be a
copy of a profile of a given user, right?
If so, how can

will BDC work if PDC crashes?
Hello,
Will BDC work if PDC crashes or there is no connectivity between them?
I assume that the servers are storing users / passwords in LDAP
database; both BDC and PDC have LDAP running locally (changes in PDC are
replicated to BDC).
Will users be able to log into the domain / use roaming profiles with no
PDC (as it crashed or link was broken), when only BDC is running?

allowing users to install printers
What is the easiest way to allow normal users to install printers (which
are available through a Samba server)?
Normally, Windows 2000 and XP need to have a printer installed by the
admin first on a given workstation - only the it can be used by the user.
I want to allow the user to install own printers.
Now, when one trises to right click on a printer on a server and
"connect", he

pxelinux on a cdrom - possible?
I'm using PXE booting to make operating system installations.
There is one problem with it - it won't work when BIOS or NIC doesn't
support network booting.
Is it possible to put pxelinux somehow on a CD or on a floppy?

installing printer in a logon script
Hello,
I have Samba 3 PDC and win2k sp4 client.
I would like to install printer on a machine globally, for all users.
To do this, I use:
net use X: \\server\unattended /user:domain\unattended password
rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /q /y /ga /in /n \\server\HP2000C
First line is mounting share (Administrator is not logged to the
domain), and the second line is to install printer.

SVN/CVS-like share for Samba users?
I am looking for some solution, working with Samba preferably, which
would allow multiple users to work on one document.
This means that if a user makes a change to the document, a previous
version of that document is saved somewhere else.
For example, user A opens a document (rw - read/write, ro - read-only
document):
rw \\server\share\document.txt
User makes some changes, and saves it to

Windows-style quota / "profile size too big" warning?
With Windows domain controllers with when the profile size is too big
(and there are limits appled), when the user logs out, he/she gets a
warning, and a list of files, sorted from the biggest, to the smallest.
To get an idea how it looks like, here's a screenshot:

different logon path for different users - local profiles for a few users only - how?
I would like to have roaming profiles for one group of users (student1,
student2), and local profiles for another group of users (Joe, Mary).
Is it possible with Samba?
From what I've tested, one can use either roaming profiles with a
setting similar to the one below:
logon path = \\%L\profiles\%G\%U
Or local profiles, using the logon path empty:

Samba 3 + LDAP as PDC - which tutorial / HOWTO to use?
Hello,
I'm struggling with setting Samba 3 + OpenLDAP as a PDC.
I had no problems with setting Samba 3 as a PDC (I could join domain,
users could log in, machines were added automatically, roaming profiles
worked etc.).
But when it comes to setting Samba 3 + OpenLDAP as a PDC, I'm stuck - I
can join a domain, but can't log in as a user; Samba logs say user auth
was successful,

how to check IP addresses of machines in the network?
Hello,
This post is similar to what I posted yesterday '"smbclient -L host" to
list IP addresses - possible?'.
I have a PDC in one place and many workstations in different other
places connected using WAN/VPN.
These workstations have rather changing IPs assigned by DHCP.
Sometimes I need to connect to these machines using VNC, for example,

extension based on a dialed number?
I have an ISDN line with 10 numbers.
The line is then connected to * with one HFC-based card.
The format of the numbers is like below:
123456-0
123456-1
...
123456-9
Now I would like to connect those numbers to different telephones, i.e.
when someone dials 123456-0, he/she is connected to the digital
receptionist.
If someone dials 123456-2, the connection goes to SIP/202
If someone dials
