[RFC] Making -mcpu=generic the default for ARM armv7a and arm8a rather than -mcpu=cortex-a8 or -mcpu=cortex-a53
Thanks for everyone giving their feedback!
I saw pretty unanimous support for making -mcpu=generic the default and making -mcpu=generic schedule for an in-order CPU (Cortex-A8 in this case).
I'll be making those changes shortly.
I think the comments also make clear that it's less obvious whether we'd want -mcpu=native to become a default. It's probably good for some use cases, but

Thanks Quentin, it's in progress now, I'll let you know how it goes.

Cool test :)
It seems to work fine now, I don't see any new failures. IIUC, Kristof is
also giving it another run.

Diana

Thanks Diana.
That is indeed the assumption in the code and this is obviously wrong.
Could you try the attached patch?
(I haven’t even tried to compile it though)
Cheers,

[GlobalISel][AArch64] Toward flipping the switch for O0: Please give it a try!
Hi Amara,
My reasons for preferring the switch to happen after the release branch is based on the following observations:
* As far as I can see, the projects and products following top-of-trunk tend to test much more extensively than the testing that happens for llvm.org<http://llvm.org> releases. I expect that the llvm.org<http://llvm.org> release testing won’t find potential

Unless there are still open issues with your patch, or our internal bots point to problems, I think time has come to flip the switch.
Thanks

Great Quentin :).
I've rerun the benchmarks comparing "-O0 -g" with "-O0 -g -mllvm -global-isel -mllvm -global-isel-abort=2" on r302453, on AArch64 Cortex-A57.
I indeed see almost no moves between GPR and FPR registers anymore (see details below for where I still see some).
On geomean, I see 13% slow down (down from 17% on my previous run).
On geomean, code size increase

RFC: LNT/Test-suite support for custom metrics and test parameterization

Great!
I thought I had to look at our pipeline at O0 to make sure optimized regalloc was supported (https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33022 <https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33022> in mind). Glad I was wrong, it saves me some time.
