Hi, I've installed a new samba server (3.4.7) with LDAP and some users are having problems to access their folders. The error is shown below. Lots of "smbd/vfs.c:reduce_name(985)" in log.smbd
Hi. I subscripted just now to the mailing list, but I've been using a Samba file server (PDC) on Debian for about 2.5 years now. Users are almost all WinXP SP3. No users are complaining but since I changed everything to one share with group permission on underlying directories I see a lot of errors in log.smbd. Anyone knows what the log message exactly means? I guess it has something to

Cannot rename directory - Samba acting two different ways on identical systems
Ubuntu Samba server running Version 3.4.0 Most windows and OS X clients connect with no issues. Permissions are working correctly on shares and umask settings are working on Window 7, OS X, and XP. The annoying mystery here is that these little bugs are annoying users and taking up precious time... Most recently, Mac1 (OS X 10.6.5 smb Version 3.0.28a-apple) is able to change a directory's

Problem After Upgrade - NT_STATUS_FILE_IS_A_DIRECTORY
I'm running Samba 3.4.7 on Ubuntu 10.04. This is a recent upgrade and we've starting experience a sporadic problem after this upgrade. When users are browsing through Windows Explorer they sometimes run across folders that appear as unassociated files. This requires the user to click the 'Refresh' button in Windows Explorer to properly see the folders. The files and folders are

Hard time installing printers 3.4.8
Hello, been googling this for a while. Read GD's presentation on why printing is such a pain... Anyway, I'm using 3.4.8 on Freebsd 8.1 I've tried a few combinations - best luck is with 3.2.5, but I'd like to move forward a bit. So, I've got the ADS part working pretty good. happy with how that's going. my problem is when I attempt to load printer drivers.

share is read-only since 3.0.3 - "access is denied"
Hi, I've a samba-3.0.2a running perfectly on redhat-8. Filesystem is EXT3 with ACL support. I can't upgrade the PDC to 3.0.3 or 3.0.4, because shares are only read-only. In 3.0.3 only home share and temp share are writable. All other shares are in read-only mode. Users can see the files/directories, but can't save anything or create new items. When trying to create a new item -

Symlink outside the share path
Hello everyone -- I am stumped on this issue, mostly because I'm not quite sure if it's behaving correctly or not. I believe this used to work and right now I'm not quite sure why it's no longer doing so and how to fix it (if possible). I suspect it is because of my recent update of the OS and Samba version. When users are trying to follow a symlink that goes to a different

Changing Windows passwords
Hi all, Is there a way to use the "encrypt passwords" and the "passwd chat" programs simultaneously? smb.conf(5) doesn't mention anything about them being mutually exclusive, yet when I run testparm on the smb.conf file, I get: ERROR: the 'passwd chat' script [...] expects to use the old plaintext password via the %o substitution. [PATCH] inspect: resolve symlinks when detecting architecture
Resolve the paths of the binaries we are looking in the guest to identify the architecture. This way we can identify also busybox-based guests such as Alpine Linux, where all the "base" binaries in /bin are symlinks to busybox. --- src/inspect-fs-unix.c | 18 +++++++++++++++--- 1 file changed, 15 insertions(+), 3 deletions(-) diff --git a/src/inspect-fs-unix.c b/src/inspect-fs-unix.c
