Samba from source on CentOS 5 -- nsswitch woes
Samba users,
I have compiled Samba 3.3.6 from the pristine sources on samba.org on a
CentOS 5 machine. When I compiled Samba, CentOS's samba-common package
was installed and specifying 'winbind' in /etc/nsswitch.conf allowed
winbind to supply user information. For the sake of cleanliness and
removing old libraries, I removed the samba-common package. Now,

Make domain users/groups available locally through Winbind
Hi list,
trying to add a new DC on my samba AD domain, I noticed that wbinfo
-u/-g was working properly but getent, id and so on commands no.
The new DC is samba 4.1.7 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS x64.
After digging for a while (the other DC was working properly and the
difference was that was running on a 32 bit machine) I found that when
running `id` command with strace libnss_winbind.so.2 was not

Samba with nss/winbind AD authentication breaks su and passwd update
I've built Samba 3.0.10 with Kerb ADS, NSS, Winbind and PAM support on
Solaris 9 using gcc 3.3.2.
I'm able to compile and install and authentication works fine - I can
query and authenticate with AD, but when I su, passwd or some other local
auth Solaris command I get the command core dumps or just fails.

passwd: files winbind ldap

winbind - getent passwd
I can't find the thread but someone last week was having trouble with
'getent passwd' not returning the Windows domain users as well as the local
users. 'wbinfo -u' worked but not 'getent passwd'.
I just finished a new server and had the same problem. Turns out I
overlooked the the symbolic links in /lib. The file libnss_winbind.so needs

winbind + windows SMB share, ACL and ftp woes
Redhat AS3
SAMBA 3.0.0-14.3E (redhat's as3 rpm)
I am not sure if what I am trying to is is possible or not:
I have an linux ftp server chrooted to an smb share onto a netapp.
I want to use the NT4 ACLS on the smb share for the ftp server file
perms. (the linux ftp server will be a drop in replacement for IIS.)
However, even when I set the ACLS(using NT4) to DENY ALL for a
user,,,that

winbind + ldap uid/gid consistency woes.
Hello all...
Im trying to fix a idmap setup with winbind where the idmaps are
stored in openldap. We have had this system working before, but it
managed to break :-) All systems running Samba (3.0.13 on FC2)
Problem: group id's and uid's (specificly uid's) are inconsistent
between clients (our two test clients). Both machines are using idmap
backend to talk to our ldap server and

Winbind(?) woes after hard disk full
Hi all.
Yesterday morning, we had a problem with our Samba box (3.0.20b-SUSE),
traced to the root(/) partition becoming full. Upon restart, it was
later reported that users at another office (trusted domain), could not
access our server.
Everything had been running smoothly for over 5 months.
Running 'wbinfo -u/-g' returns a list of users/groups from the local
domain, prefixed with

winbind - samba4
Hi,
I am using centos 6.3 and did the migration from samba3 to Samba4. More the
"getent passwd" does not return users.
I made the link:
ln-s /usr/local/samba/lib/libnss_winbind.so.2 / lib/libnss_winbind.so
ln-s /lib/libnss_winbind.so /lib/libnss_winbind.so.2
And change in /etc/nsswitch:
passwd: files winbind
shadow: files
group: files winbind
When I run the command:

samba as a domain member server using winbind
hi all
i seem to be having a problem replicating an installation of samba as a "domain member server" to our NT4 PDC
when i initally installed samba i was able to use the DC's as the authentication source to allow the windows workstation access to the samba share via winbind, it all worked well, as documented, i didn't even need to setup user accounts on the samba box.

FreeBSD and Winbind
I'm hoping this is an easy question, but the way my day has gone I
seriously doubt it is going to be.
Today, I installed Samba 3.0.24 with winbind support on my FreeBSD 6.2
server. I am able to join my domain and get information concerning groups
and passwords from the domain controller (Windows 2003) without any
problem.
Where I have run into a problem is using getent to get a copy of the

winbind problem on solaris (samba head)
Hello,
I just buildt via cvs samba head. I used just the option --with-winbind (no
pam). The first problem is that sessionid.tdb is missing after the build.
I don't know how to make it make a new one (can I copy one from another
server or is there something in it that would make that a bad idea?). The
other problem is that wbinfo -t says secret is good, wbinfo -g/u return the

Winbind/nsswitch issue on Solaris 9 (Sparc)
Hi all
I need to set up Samba on Solaris 9 (Sparc) as a Windows Domain Member.
I took the precompiled 64-bit Package
(samba-2.2.8a-1-sol8-suncc-64bit.pkg) from samba.org, which comes with
pam-winbind libraries, and it installed fine.
I ran a test before with Samba 2.2.8 on Solaris 8 (Intel), but there I
compiled myself with ./configure --with-winbind --with-pam --with-quotas

Problem with winbind and nsswitch.conf on Solaris 8 server
Hello,
I'm having some problems using winbind on Samba 3.0.1 with /etc/nsswitch.conf on a Solaris 8 server. The Solaris 8 release is 10/00.
The basic problem that I have is that there are restrictions on what nsswitch.conf can contain if password ageing is used.
My setup is that users connecting to shares on the Solaris samba server are authenticated against a accounts on a Windows Active

Winbind problem related with old libnss_winbind.so and pam_winbind.so version.
Hello,
In my log.winbind I'm getting several messages like this one:
[2003/12/30 18:19:00, 0] nsswitch/winbindd.c:process_loop(725)
process_loop: Invalid request size from pid 12913: 1304 bytes sent, should
be 1568
This usually means that you are running old wbinfo, pam_winbind or
libnss_winbind clients
I suppose that the problem may be cause by old version of pam_winbind and

Samba4 and problem with winbind
Hello
I've installed Samba4 from http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4/HOWTO
and everything listed works well, however wbinfo reports the following:

> wbinfo -g : failed to call wbcListGroups: WBC_ERR_DOMAIN_NOT_FOUND
