PDC, BDCs - how do you synchronize roaming profiles?
Hello,
I'm about to deploy Samba PDC and several BDCs.
As far as I understand Samba and domain logons, this means that a user
will be able to log onto any server, with his workstation choosing a
domain controller that is probably the closest/fastest etc. one.
As a consequence, this also means, that on each server there has to be a
copy of a profile of a given user, right?
If so, how can

Usermanager for domains 3.0.2a... This a known bug?
I have Samba version 3.0.2a-3mdk with an LDAP backend. Works great but
I can't seem to get user manager for domains to work with it. I'm
thinking that perhaps it might be a samba bug that has probably since
been corrected. Can anyone validate this idea?

Trouble creating RPM
Greetings,
I've download the latest source and am trying to install it on my Mandrake
machine.
I've gotten through the build process (about 12 dozen times) without error,
but it never creates the rpm files.
The command I used is:
rpmbuild -ba --nobuild \
--without acl \
--without vscan \
--without ldap \

Everything processes

Deleting Old Printer Drivers
Hi all,
I am running samba 3.0.6 on Linux and am wondering if anyone knows if it
is possible to delete a print driver from the driver database? I have
around 20 printers running off of this print server and occasionally we
remove all of a certain type of printer. Also, for some reason, the
drivers sometimes seem to become corrupt and it would be nice to be able
to entirely remove a driver and

Logon fails due to "The system cannot find the file specified"
I have a couple of Windows 2000 boxes that only accept logons from users
who have logged onto the system before. For new users the logon
appears to succeed, proceeds to "Loading your personal settings" and
then the following error appears -
Windows cannot log you on because the profile cannot be loaded. Contact
your network administrator.
DETAIL - The system cannot find the file

Hiding some stuff
Hi,
Is there a way i could hide "netlogon", "profiles", "homes", etc., from my
windows 2000 users ?
Will "hide files" solves the issue, or is there another way ?
Any help would be appreciated.
Warm Regards,

Security Hell
I have been trying to setup two samba servers on Fedora Core 2 for the past 30 hours and am about to jump out a window.
I'm simply trying to create a few shares that multiple WinXP clients can have readonly access to and a select few have write privilages. Also, a few shares that are are private for a select few users with write privilages. In all cases, anybody should be able to browse the

Samba3 - LDAP - USRMGR.EXE
Hello,
have some little problems adding user to domain with USRMGR.EXE
My System runs on SuSE 9.1 (2.6.5-7.75-default), samba-3.0.4,
smbldap-tools-0.8.5, openldap2-2.2.6
If I try to add a new user with USRMGR.EXE I get an error "Access denied",
but if I look into LDAP the new user was correctly added to LDAP.
If I confirm the error-message and then cancel the "NEW USER"

netlogon loop (migrating from 2.2.7 to 3.0.x)
Hi,
I am migrating my aging 2.2.7 samba server to a new machine (Fedora
Core2 + samba 3.0.x) but got stuck in a strange problem.
My users can log in, can mount the shares but only if I remove the
netlogon script.
I can browse the available shares from windows and linux.
I am using the same netlogon script which is similar to the one found
in the documentation.

Documenting options specific to a package.
If one specifies new options in a package, using the options()
function, where does/should one document these new options?
E.g. suppose that I put the line
options(melvin=42)
in a file zzz.R in the R directory of the package source, where the
package contains functions foo(), bar(), clyde(), and irving() which
all query options("melvin") and take some action based on the value

domain administrator is always mapped to root
Hello,
I have found out that a domain administrator is always mapped to root in
the UNIX filesystem:
drwx------ 2 jive smbguests 1024 2004-12-23 18:59 jive
drwx------ 13 salsa smbusers 1024 2004-12-23 18:58 salsa
drwx------ 13 root smbadmins 1024 2004-12-23 18:56 tango
jive is a domain guest user, salsa a domain user and tango a domain
administrator.
Is it possible to change the root

Creating mandatory profiles (not making profiles mandatory)
Hi,
is it possible to create the user profiles by copying a template, change
file ownership and modify the SID in NTUSER.DAT using the profile tool?
We have many problems with broken profiles. This has become time
consuming and frustrating - when a user experiences an error or weird
behaviour of an application I can never be sure wether the cause is a
"wrong user error", a broken

Obtaining names of ``...'' arguments.
This may be an FAQ, but a (perfunctory) search failed to turn it up.
Suppose I have a function foo(...){<something>} and I want to obtain,
inside foo, the names of items comprising the ``...''. E.g. if I
call
foo(melvin,clyde,irving)
I want to be able to loop through the ``...'' and successively obtain
the text strings "melvin", "clyde", and

Creating an environment for a function.
I am trying to build a function in a context where the environment
concept would appear to be useful. But I'm a bit foggy about this
concept and would appreciate some pointers and advice.
Basically the function I'm building, say foo(x,t), is a function of
two variables). Depending on the value of t, foo will return one of
the values f1(x), f2(x), ..., fk(x), where each of f1, ..., fk is
