why is my "nmbd" confused about network interfaces?
The only thing related to 'addresses' in my
/etc/samba/smb.conf file is a "hosts allow":
hosts allow = 192.168.3.0/24 127.1
I'm going to ignore the 'local hosts case, as if I solve the other,
the localhost case may get solved by inference.
I thought the 'hosts allow' would allow any host on the
local 192.168.3.0/24 subnet.
The hosts have no problems

Does this tell me anything? Traffic report
I'm trying to get Samba up and running and having a terrible time. It
says that I should be able to run nmap and see that 137 and 139 are open
- which they are not. I have not added any restrictions in smb.conf, do
not have a firewall running and I have increased the log level to 5 to
see all of the messages. It says that it is talking on 137 but it kind
of looks like it's not talking

samba server does not appear in network neighborhood
Hi all,
I've recently setup samba 2.2.5 on a solaris 8 workstation and configured it
to be a member of an NT domain. Everything is working correctly, with the
exception that the samba server does not appear in the network neighborhood of
the rest of the PC's in the domain. However, if you choose to "search for
computers" and enter the netbios name of the server it is

SAMBA replies SAM LOGON request from different ip alias
Hi all,
we have got 4 Samba Servers. All BDCs for "MYDOMAIN", except by SERVER3 that is a PDC.
All of them have 3 physical Network interfaces, from which 2 are used by samba. Each of them has a several ip aliases, except by SERVER1 which has only primary ip numbers on its interfaces.
When I try to join a new Windows client (XP SP3) to the domain. It asks our wins server for

NMBD Not Starting
I moved an entire RH 6.2 server from one CPU to a new one using a tape
backup/restore. Everything from the old server is working on the new server,
but when SysV starts up smb, the nmbd daemon (2.0.6) exits with an error:
create_subnets: No local interfaces!
eth0 has already started according to the logs and console. Any ideas?
Thanks.

3.0.7 - NT Create AndX Response, Error:, QUERY_PATH_INFO, Error:
<earlier, David Rankin wrote to no avail:>
Mates,
I have been watching a developing problem over the past few weeks. Most
likely a M$ patch to XP that has caused problems. What happens is that XP
clients try to open the standard "File" -> "Open" dialog (like in word, or
whatever) and the file open dialog hangs and stops responding for 15 seconds
or so. I have

Problem with samba3 BDC
Hi,
I have successfully installed and configured Samba 3.0.2 PDC & BDC / ldap
master & slave servers in local network. Then I moved BDC to another site
(with WAN connectivity). Now I discovered that workstations on this site
(with BDC) are not able to join domain. After some investigations (also
tcpdump) I found out that problem is that BDC don't reply to NBNS requests
for name

nmblookup receives response, but doesn't show it
Hi folks,
I find that nmblookup seems to be receiving
responses to name queries, but ignoring them. Here's what's
happening:
# nmblookup somehost
querying somehost on x.y.255.255
name_query failed to find name somehost
But watching the transaction with ethereal on the local
host, I see that:
1. nmblookup on local udp port nnnn (some random number above 1024)
sends an nbns

Problem of access samba from rh8
Hello,
I already setup a samba server as PDC for windows client to logon and

Then I try to access the samba share from Redhat 8, I can use smbclient to
access the share without problem but I can't access the share with "KDE's
Konqueror" (smb://NetbiosName/), it can show all shares, when I double one

nmbd reacts to its own broadcasts?
Hi,
Is it normal for nmbd to react to its own broadcasts? This is what seems
to be happening to me.
I'm just installed SAMBA 2.2.8a on a Gentoo box on my home network; a
3-node network using NetBIOS over TCP/IP--all B-nodes. Looking at the
logs I saw lines such as the following each time I started SAMBA.

Can't browse network using nautilus
Hi,
I'n using the nautilus file browser in a GNOME desktop environment on a
FC2 system.
If I enter smb:/// in the location bar in nautilus I can see the
network but whenever I try to look at the shares on a computer I get a
message saying that I do not have permissions to view the contents.
I looked in the archives and found a thread on a similar problem. This

Samba , dhcp, wins on Solaris 2.x
Hi All
I have a samba server running on solaris 2.5.1. On the same machine there is
a ISC dhcpd server which is configured to supply all the tcp/ip information
to the NT Clients dynamically (ip, wins, domainname, dns, router etc.).
So my NT Clients get only a name and are configured to get their tcp/ip
information from the dhcpd server.
Now, everything runs fine browsing, NetBios name

[Bridge] Ubuntu: network bridging between wireless and wired connection fails
Hi everybody,
First of all, let me say that I searched a lot on the internet. I
spent several hours sitting after my notebook, but I can't configure
my network bridge in Ubuntu. I'm really desperate, so I hope somebody
can point me out what I'm doing

Primard Domain Controller feature not working
Hey guys,
I configured Samba do be the domain controller for my network and to
share folders. the folder sharing works great. The problem is that
the domain function does not work at all. I cannot join the domain
from any workstation. It just says that the controller cannot be
contacted. I ran an Ethereal sniff on the packets and the computer
that i want to be PDC is sending ICMP Destination

WinXP3: NBNS query: non-exist; Wireshark: "'NB ?'<00>" & "'NB ?'<20>"
I'm getting some odd queries from a WinXPSP3 client to an older samba
(3.2.0-24) Domain & File server running on linux kernel (2.6.27.19).
The client seems to be querying for a netbios name <literal-question mark>
followed by binary 0 (<00>) to the DomainServer, or Broadcasting the query
with the '?' followed by a space <20>.

protocol question
I'm trying to understand odd behavior in my LAN. I'm running Samba
2.2.5 and trying to run it as a PDC.
I have 1-2 win98 clients, 1 XPSP1 client, and 1 Win2kSP3 client.
I've managed to add the XP and 2K machines to the domain successfully,
but
still haven't finished configuring logins to work correctly -- something
