Slow login to Samba PDC from windows XP
Hi All,
I've narrowed this down to the "preparing networks" part of the windows
login. I've setup a bridged machine to sit in between the Windows XP box
and the network and filtered on only the Windows XP's IP.

ASPI problem
Having gotten WinOnCD to start (though the installer fails (*.msi
file)) by copying the files and registry from a windows install, I now
have an ASPI problem. I am able to erase a cdrw from within winoncd
and most of winoncd works pretty much as it should (but no drag'n drop
works). Writing a CD does however not work yet and it appears to be a
winaspi problem:

isolinux needing mkisofs
Due to limitations of equipment, I have need of using the isolinux boot
loader with .iso files generated by roxio.
After trying (and of course failing) with an off the shelf version of
isolinux, I grabbed the source for isolinux (syslinux 2.11 package) and
started looking.
It took a few hours to orient myself, but I ended up doing the modification
below to isolinux.asm. I then had to write

A Pleasant Surprise
Since RC2 was released, I've started re-building the music library I
left behind at my previous job (all my stuff from CDs, ripped into
MP3s). Recently I started an aggressive campaign of converting my
CDs to vorbis files... I'm doing about 6 or 7 CDs a day at work =)
Yesterday I was listening to my Talk Talk album, and noticed that
on this one live track, the stereo seemed to have

Can you explain this to me? You don't actually lose the audio data, right,
just the structure of the CD (which can probably be captured with cue
files anyway)? I've ripped CDs with pregap audio before, and I'm pretty
sure it's not getting

Samba 3.0.10 as a PDC
Hi,
I'm trying to get Samba to act as the PDC for a domain populated by Win2k
boxen. All the machines are running Windows 2000 Professional. Unfortunately,
the 2k boxen all produce this error when I try and log in as a normal user:
Windows cannot log you on because the profile cannot be loaded. Contact

First login VERY slow only with XP client
Hello all,
I have setup a Samba NT domain using OpenLDAP for authentication (compiling
samba 2.2.3a with the LDAP option). One linux box holds the OpenLDAP server
and is also a samba server (local master, software, doc), another acts as
the PDC (holds user dirs) and redirect authentication requests to the
former.
It works perfectly well with an heterogeneous set of machines (linux-samba

Samba, Samba PDC and slow XP if user not in admin group.
Like many I ran into the slow winXP client when attached to a samba server. Access
times were extremely slow and windows explorer was almost unusable (especially if
there were a large number of files in the directory).
The XP users authenticated properly and rights were applied as expected via the
samba configuration. Every thing worked properly... except really slow.
I went through all the

Samba PDC and Windows XP clients - login timeout after 15 minutes
Hi!
We are using a Samba PDC with 40 Windows XP clients and have some strange
problems.
When a user starts his Windows computer and don't login within the next 15
minutes
(because he drinks a cup of coffee) and tried to login after that time he
get the message,
that the server-profile could not be loaded and a temporary profile is
used instead.
There are absolutely no problems when a

Windows XP suddenly can't login to PDC
Hi,
I've got a Samba 3.0.2a PDC running for some time now (like more than a
year) with MS Windows XP clients. But suddenly on January 23 2006 none
of the clients where able to login anymore. The error on the client was
(translated from dutch):
Unable to connect to domain server.
The logfile on the samba side showed:

Hi Guys,
I've reverted back to a image and tried this multiple time and I cannot
figure out what I'm doing wrong.
I installed Samba right now i'm using ver 3.07 but 3.04 did the same

This is what I basically do...
- Install samba
- Install winbind
- Turn both on at boot
- configure my smb.conf file and test :
    wbinfo -g
    wbinfo -u
    getent passwd
    etc

CDex and Flac
Where did your rip files come from? Are they WAVE or AIFF? My hunch is that
technically bad files were created when you ripped your CDs. "data pad byte"
sounds like one of those things that is required in WAVE/AIFF, but many
application developers miss. As a result of the various errors out there, many
tools will accept bad audio files without complaint, others will point out

Ok, I don't know what I'm doing wrong here, so I
signed up to the mailing list. Here's the situation:
I have an extensive music collection and have just
purchased an iPod. I already have ripped a few of my
CDs (about 4Gb worth) in an mp3 format (previously had
an mp3 CD player), but I'm not planning to rip the
rest of my CD collection in an mp3 format. At the
moment, I'm
