Upgrading a Samba Domain - SECOND REQUEST FOR HELP
I am trying to upgrade our fully functional Samba domain from v3.0.2 to
v3.0.7 or v3.0.8. My question is, do I have to upgrade every server in
the domain in order for it to work or should I be able to upgrade one
server at a time, test it, and move on to the next server? Or should I
upgrade the domain controller first, then upgrade the member servers one
at a time?
I've tried to upgrade

Upgrading a Samba Domain - SOLVED!
I was able to resolve this issue. Just in case anyone is interested, I
HAD to upgrade the PDC FIRST. Then I was able to upgrade the member
servers without problems.

Does this Scenario Sound Like a Winbind Problem?
Earlier this year I upgraded all of our Unix Solaris servers from Samba
v2.2.8 w/no domain to Samba v3.0.2 w/one domain. I have been adding
Windows 2000 and Windows XP workstations to the domain. Everything has
been working fine. I run the winbindd daemon but do not have winbind
"configured" in any other way other than these few entries in the global
section of the smb.conf files on

TCP_NODELAY
I recently downloaded and installed v3.0.8 and installed it on HP-UX
11.11. Thankfully, all of the compile problems I reported in 3.0.2 are now
gone (not sure why no one ever acknowledged my bug, but whatever).
However, now my system is complaining that TCP_NODELAY is not a valid
option. I did not turn it off during the compile, don't see it listed as
an option, and worse than that, it is

Mounting Linux Samba Shares on Windows when Active Directory Server is down
Hi,
I am running Samba 3.6.19 and making my way through all the Active
Directory documentation. I have joined various Linux boxes to a
Windows Server 2008 R2 Active Directory domain. Windows 7 users who
log on with their domain accounts can mount the correct shares exported
by the Linux boxes without having to supply any additional credentials.
All working perfectly!
However, I have a

WINS setup / browsing
I just successfully upgraded a server from v 2.2.8 to v3.0.7. When I
execute smbstatus or swat it correctly shows v 3.0.7. When I browse thru
network neighborhood it still shows v 2.2.8. I stopped samba, and removed
/usr/local/samba/var/locks/browse.dat & wins.dat. Then restarted samba. It
still reports v2.2.8 thru network neighborhood. In viewing browse.dat it
shows 2.2.8. Where is this

log files created for both the hostname and the IP address?
At a new account where they run Samba 3.0.14a on a Debian server I'm
seeing log files being created for both the hostname and the IP
address. The log files, however, are not identical. But the timestamps
are close.
None of my installations have this quirk. If the hostname is resolvable
the log is made using it, if not resolvable then the log is made with
the IP address but not both.

--delete question.
Please advise on rsync usage. --delete doesn?t work without recursion(--recursion). The recursion is causing huge overheads for me. My directory trees are huge. Any suggestions through which I can cut overheads. It used to work well in rsync-v2.5.5

Samba(3.2.12 and 3.4.0) - Winbind - trusted domains - Problem!
Good Morning!
We got in some troubles using trusted domains and winbind. First i will tell you something about the network and samba configuration.
For our SMB Environment we use Samba 3.2.12. We have three trusted domains. Our Samba Server uses LDAP as Backend. Most of the time it worked nice, but after some time Winbind loses User Entrys. On the windows side i can see "unknown user

Option valid user not expanded for groups
Hi,
I have a AIX 5.3 machine with Samba 3.0.24c joined into one Windows 2003 ADS server OK.
I can request basic information, user lookup, domain lookup(wbinfo, id, net groupmap).
When I want to acces the share \\node05\brom from one Windows station I receive a popup window password.
In the log of the samba for that machine I found:

Using samba as a PDC with win2k clients
Hello Samba users,
I'm trying to configure my samba server as a PDC for some Win2k
machines.
I'm running Red Hat 8.0 and samba-3.0.0rc4.
Everything seems to be ok, when using workgroup configuration, all the
shares works fine. But I cant get the Win2k clients to log in the
Domain.
It says I have a unknown user or an incorrect password. But at least it
prompted me for a user/password, so I

Authenticating another domain
When I attempt to authenticate a user from another domain, I am seeing
some strange issues. My winbindd.log shows that I am indeed already
trusting the other domain. (I am a member of the na.uis.unisys.com
domain.) However, when I try to gain access to a share where the
username EU\INBLR-AUTH1 has access, I get prompted for a username and
password over and over. Obviously, it can't

Unable to join Win client to domain (user not found error)
Hello,
I'm having some difficulty trying to join a WinXP client to our Samba
domain. When I try to join the client to the domain and I submit the
computer name and the domain name in the computer identification control
panel, I'm prompted for the root user and password on the server, so I enter
root and the root password on our Samba server. I then get a message saying

Urgent Please - Samba 3.0.1 - LDAP - WinXP ... has anyone got it working???
I've been trying to have Samba 3.0.1 work as a primary domain controller
using LDAP as the authentication mechanism.
However I am unable to get any of my Windows XP Pro machine join the
domain. When prompt for an account with permissions to join the domain
by the XP client, I give it the Administrator account which is granted

Joining a domain with a non-administrator account
I'm trying to set it up so I can join the domain with a regular user
that is part of the domain admin group. I have a user dsonenberg that
is in the domain admin group(512), but I can't join the domain with that
account. For the record I can login with that account and Administrator
can join the domain. The PDC has an LDAP backend. Here's the log.

Migrated PDC to new server
I just migrated my SMB pdc to a new server (was running 3.0.21c, now
3.0.22). Some things seems to be ok. net rpc list; net rpc testjoin
seem to work. But if I attempt to join a windows system to the domain I
get "The following error occured while attempting to join to domain
"DOMAINNAME": The user name could not be found". The machine name is
getting loaded into ldap.

How to use rsync when filenames contain double quotes?
Hello,
I am trying to synchronize the content of the directory my_dir/ from /home
to /backup. This directory contains a file which name has a double quote in
it, such as to"to. Here is my rsync command:
rync -Cazh /home/my_dir/ /backup/my_dir/
And I get the following message:
rsync: mkstemp "/backup/my_dir/.to"to.d93PZr" failed: Invalid argument (22)
For info, rsync works

I am trying join a w2k bo to a samba DC on RH9. I have read that I need
to add the computer as a user first then join so I did it via these

Samba and trusted domains
Hi All,
I installed samba 3.0.22 and join it to Win2003 AD domain.
Users from my domain can access the samba shares successfully.
My problem is that users from trusted domains can not access to my samba
shares
Wbinfo -m - show all the trusted domains
Wbinfo -u - show all the users include the trusted domains users.
Any Idea?
