"net getdomainsid" reporting "Could not fetch local SID" -- am I using this command appropriately?
Good evening, Distro: ClearOS 6.3 (RHEL-derived with a distro-specific web configuration tool for samba) I'm only about 90% sure it's version 6.3. Samba version: 3.6.10-1.v6 Intended use: NT4-style PDC for Windows XP clients Issue: My distro's "add machine script" uses the output of "net getdomainsid" to help populate the new machine account's sambaSID field

Auto mapping to windows home drives?
This could be quite simple but I don't know how to do it. Does anyone know how I can automatically mount a users home drive (which is located on a windows server) when they log in? Is there a pam module for that? Thanks very much, Sapan

Unable to join samba server to a NT4 style domain/Sam ba-Guide feedback
John, The restrictanonymous setting was the primary culprit in Ash's issue. I think he's using basically the same setup as I am; no winbind/LDAP involved. I'm thinking there's some initial handshaking that requires an anonymous connection to PDC, and it's being blocked if the restrictanonymous setting is too high. I sent a note to Ash (& the list) asking for the

To the ones who may concern :: German Translation of the Samba-Docs SOON AVAILABLE AS BOOK.
Hello to all Samba-users, and, in particular, Hallo an die deutschsprachigen Anwender von Samba ! It has been quite a while since I announced the complete translation of "The Official Samba-3 HOWTO And Reference Guide" (aka TOSHARG). I have received some requests for a printed version of the german documentation, this means to me that it has to be announced again that there will be a

Fw: Forcing password changes using SAMBA as PDC
Hi, I did as suggested, and still have the same problem. I am still able to login to samba with another users password that does not require password changes. This seems to me that the problem is related to PAM password changing. I have tried change the various PAM options in the smb.conf file, but cannot get it to work. Depending on the options, it either asks for a password or not. When it asks

Samba 3.0.0-2 WINS Static entries
Hi, I'm trying to add static entries to the wins.dat file, as per The Official Samba 3 How-to guide but can't get it to work. If I add entries and just leave it be, the server responds with unknown host and If I restart nmbd it removes all the entries (static) that I manually added. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug ? Brett

samba 3.0 with ldap / sambaSID
Hello, I'm lloking for a way to convert my company's existing samba2.2 ldap backed service to samba 3.0. What's particulary making me curious is the sambaSID. As I've read it is the unique identifier of a PDC in the windows world. So, how does samba3 generate this? Is it supposed to be changed by the admin or is it determined by samba on the first startup? Any pointer to a doc

root user in smbldap...how to change home
Hi, I finally have my profiles problem squared away.... I've done away with the Administrator user in smbldap-tools by running smbldap-populate -a root instead of just plain smbldap-populate Thus root is now the samba admin. BUT....when I run getent passwd my system shows the home directory as /home/root instead of /root....how can I change this...or better yet how can I have my cake

Shares of Logged Out Users Still Visible By Next User
Hi. I'm running Samba 3.0.2 (a?) on Linux. For the most part, it's working great. I have set up Samba as a PDC and also just as a workgroup server. However, under both scenarios I'm seeing a troublesome behavior with Windows XP machines that have many users who frequently log on and log off. If User A logs off Windows XP and User B logs on 30 or 40 seconds later, sometimes

I have compiled and install samba 3 from source. The services start and I can smbclient localhost etc. just fine and I can get a list of the computers in my active directory with that command. When I do a wbinfo -u I get "error looking up domain users." My smb.conf file has security = ads, my realm is NCCVT.K12.DE.US, I have encrypt passwords etc. Any idea where to start looking?

Hi list, This is driving me to distraction. I have installed the 3.0.14a RPMS on SLES8, and am following chapter 9 of the 'By Example' documentation, to migrate from an NT domain to a Samba domain backed by LDAP. I have followed the instructions up to the point where I enter: net rpc join -S pdc_it -U Administrator%password Unfortunately, this responds with: Creation of workstation

Configuring Samba with LDAP
Hello, I'm having problems configuring Samba to work using ADS. I've successfully compiled LDAP. When I try ./configure --with-pam --with-winbind --with-ads --with-krb5 --with-ldap It says "Active Directory support requires LDAP support" Are there any variables that need to be set? I've done --with-ldap=/usr/local/openldap (This the prefix for openldap). I'm
