How to tunnel Samba via ssh from Windows XP without having to disable local NetBIOS
The most recent discussions I could find on the internet about how to
tunnel Samba over ssh were on this list
(http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2004-February/), but no complete
answers were given.
Here is a near complete answer, which works, pulled together from various
sources on the web (which are referenced). Remaining questions are at the
end. It is kind of PuTTY-centric, but as far as I

Using "root" Type User Via Forwarding-SSH-Tunnel Inside Non-Root SSH Connection
Hi,
QUESTION:
what implications are there when using the "root" or a root type of
account via a port-forwarding ssh-tunnel inside (or on top of)
another non-root type of user's ssh-tunnel ?
Is such double layer of encryption brings more security or system
still vulnerable same as single layer of SSH encryption ?
DETAILS:
In CentOS (6.3 & 6.4) server side i have done these:

Putty X11 problem
I use WinSCP to connect to remote server with wine. I use Putty as a terminal, but it seems, I cannot use X11 tunneling to run graphical applicatoins from this remote server, although X11 is enabled in Putty. Is there a solution for that?

Samba over SSH to Windows Vista
After having scoured the net for a way to do SMB over SSH with Windows,
I've tried everything I have found and I still can't get it to work.
I'm using Windows Vista as the client and FC6 with Samba 3.0.24-1 as the
server. I have set up a share and can successfully connect to that share
with no ssh tunnel.
I would like to tunnel SMB over SSH, so here is what I have tried:

SSH Client Hangs after logging in to SSHD
I'm not a ssh expert and I don't know if the log is good or bad, but I too am
running OpenSHH under OpenServer. I find that after I connect, the return key
has no effect unless I first type:
stty sane <Ctrl>j
If you've hit <ENTER> before that you must first press <Ctrl>j a couple of times
to clean out the buffer. After I type the above command, everything

Dear All,
I am a newbie in the unix world.
I have a problem. I try to log all my typed, edited (via vi/vim) and of course the output/result of a command into a file (specific file e.g.: hostname_date_time.log into my home directory).
I would like to reach the same logging what the putty does. But I do not want to use putty under linux.
This is why I ask you is it possible to logging the ssh as

I read the posting below. but I have not figured out why my vista pc won't work.

1. I disable window file sharing;
2. in putty, i add a tunnel:
???? source port: 445
???? destination port: my linux box IP: 139
? ?I forward 80. i see http://127.0.0.1 yields my web server's start page.
3 i also use secpol.msc and change local policies -> security options.

ssh exit mechanism!
To whomsoever it may concern,
I use putty-0.51 as ssh client on windows and
openssh-2.9p2 implementation on RedHat 7.0 Linux as
ssh server. For the client to exit, I expected ssh
client to send SSH_CMSG_EOF to the server and the
server respond with SSH_CMSG_EXITSTATUS and finally
close the connection when the client sends
SSH_CMSG_EXIT_CONFIRMATION. This will effectively end
the server_loop in

Cygwin/rsync/ssh automation problems
Hey all,
I have a problem I can't find a solution for. I am on my third day of testing,
researching, planning, and swearing. :) I need to set up a convenient way to
synchronize a bunch of data over the network for backups. The server is
FreeBSD and the client is Windows. Currently we are using PuTTY, Pageant, and
PSCP to SCP the files over SSH. This has various problems which led me to look

Having played with samba for quite awhile I can now view and write to
her mac from my windows pc. But I still cannot print.
