universal netlogon script
Hi Guys, Advise, I have 200 users, they all have access to 20 shares in different combinations. They all have their own netlogon scripts... its a management nightmare, is there a way to create a universal netlogon script that I can include all the shares to mount and it will silently fail on the ones it cant? Perhaps there is a smarter way to implement this idea, lynching is welcome, so is

Login scripts and Win9x clients
Hi all, I have two systems using Win98 and one using Win95. These three systems do not automatically execute their login scripts. I can map the network drives manually and tell them to reconnect at login, but I am wondering why they don't execute them. I can log in, browse to my netlogon share (if I make it browseable), and execute the script manually, and it works. Well, it mostly

netlogin scripts
running debian 3.1 "sarge" ppc and samba 3.08 I want to have my win98se computer users to have their shares automatically mapped. 1. I have read that I would use a netlogin directory and put scripts in there? 2. Does anyone know if samba has to be set up a special way ADS, wins, etc... to use the netlogin directory and it's scripts? "this server is the only smb server

Upgrade Novell 4.11 to Samba 3.0.7 wisdom needed
Has anybody done such a thing as this? I'm looking to make this transition as smooth as possible. I have the new fileserver up and running, and I'm using rsync to keep the Novell data current on the Samba server. Any words of advice on transferring the users and groups and permissions over to the new server in the least painful way possible? I have some idea that Novell uses LDAP

Help needed: strange issue with share mapping at logon
Hello all, I've run into an issue while migrating a client's Samba PDC from Debian 3.x to OpenSuSE 10.3, have been beating my head against it for over a week, and am now turning to the mailing list for help. We're running Samba 3.0.26a-3-1478-SUSE-SL10.3 authenticating against OpenLDAP 2.3.37. Integration of Samba and OpenLDAP works, and importing the 2000+ existing user accounts

AddPrinterConnection returns ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER
I set up a Point-n-Print printer server with Samba3.0.28 and it works fine from XP, but when I try to connect and install the printer driver from Vista machines, it gives me 0x57 error, does anybody know why this is happening? I later found out it's AddPrinterConnection call failing, but I don't know how to go any further beyond that. Thanks

Folder Redirection with NT4 Domains
Hi, I'd like to hear off-list from anyone who is currently successfully using folder redirection with an NT4 domain controller. If you are doing this, please would help me to understand your secret. There are two ways I know of that should work, however I have received feedback from separate sources that claim problems with both of these methods. I would like to include in the new book

another printing question
I have got the printing working with CUPS finally on all of my printer. Took a while but they are printing with no errors. What they are not doing is feeding back the print status, and not all of them are consistent. I have a HP2000C that gives me a failed to open retrying error in the W2k printers window. I have a minolta d350 that always comes back blank, even though there are maybe 50 jobs

Force update of Samba point-and-print drivers?
I hope someone here can offer an easy approach to the following (somewhat simplified) scenario. We have a Samba domain that is running well. We have 10 Samba/CUPS printers and used the Windows Print Wizard method noted on pages 225-226 (section 17.6.1) of the Prentice-Hall-published Official Samba-3 HOWTO to install the drivers. Over time, we learned to pay particular attention the the printer

extra page printing
I have found another printing problem on my print server. The printer is an HP2000C. Printing using cups. The print queue is set up as a RAW printer. It should be just pass through. I am using the same print driver as on the Novell that works fine. The problem is before each print job a single page gets printed with a %! at the top of the page and nothing else. This problem does not show up

HP DL585 - CentOS4.5 - kix woes
Hi Well we are now using HP instead of Dell and have hit a major hurdle. We dont seem to be able to kix any of these boxes. I have been most recently trying on a dl585 and the issue appears to be that the kix kernel does not detect any nic. Its strange as the box can be installed using iso's and the nic appears as eth0: Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5706 1000Base-T (A2) PCI-X 64-bit 100MHz

question about survival datas with repeated mesurements
I have to study censured datas concernig the occurence of infection at the point of insertion of catheter in patients with renal disease. Catheter may be removed for ather reasons than infection, in this case, the observation is censored. Each has exactly 2 observations. The question are the pronostic factors of infection (the other variables are; age, sex, type of renal disease...). Could you

Post 3.0.9 Win9X Domain Logon Problems
Hi all, We have Samba 3 up to and including 3.0.9 working fine using LDAP for the backend. XP and 9X logons work fine. On upgrading to newer versions (inc. 3.0.11, 3.0.14a and tried 3.0.20), in the same configuration, 9X logons stop working properly - they authenticate, but fail to get information such as groups and user's full name. XP still works fine. We use KIX for our logon

Pseudo-GPO Support for Samba
I have a bunch of W2K clients on my network and I want to be able to use GPOs, but REFUSE to go the M$ route ;-) Since GPOs are essentially registry entries, it might be somewhat easy to implement a simple program that could give admins that fine-grain control that is missing from NT4-style .pol files. What I would like to propose is a simple Win32 executable that could read from an

roaming profiles ok, but what about the printers?
Hi there, We have a little intranetwork with Samba 3.0.x as PDC. There are 20 Win2k-clients in several rooms and 18 users roaming from one machine to another (according to their tasks). So any user has a roaming profile. This runs almost perfect (some minor problems are still there, but the the advantages are overwelming). But there is one thing, I can't understand. Why does Win2k saves

Sysvol
Hi , We ran the classicupgrade today and have come across an issue with sysvol. The users are getting access denied message when accessing sysvol/netlogn. Other shares are ok. The administrator can access the sysvol and netlogin root at dozer5-ad:/var/lib/samba# ls -al total 67 drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 11 May 10 17:33 . drwxr-xr-x 32 root root 32 May

Schema Requests
It would be nice to have some additional attributes in the samba.schema. I have several servers that all my users need to have mapped locations. It would be nice if I could add drive letters and paths in ldap, but there doesn't seem to be anything defined in the schema. This way when I run the script to create the user all of the standard mappings are created as well.

Creating Custom System Policy Templates
Has anyone looked into creating custom templates for Microsoft's System Policy editor ? I like the idea of managing workstations through the NTConfig.POL file, but the included templates are quite a bit outdated. Does anyone know if it would be worth-while to take the time and create an updated Template to add policies to manage newer features of Windows 2000/XP through the NTConfig.POL
