Re: Trusting and trusted domain (home mapping) problem
Hi Igor,
I got stuck now. I did my best. I got stuck at the winbind which I suspected is the reason why the domainA_computer cannot map the domain_B user's home directory.
1. What are the settings of your winbind?
2. Do you use only "winbind" in your libnss_ldap or use "ldap" as well?
3. My winbind works with :-

wbinfo -u and -g work, getent passwd works, getent group DOES NOT WORK
Hi,
I'm trying to get some Ubuntu8.04 clients to authenticate to an Ubuntu8.04 Samba domain controller. Everyone is running Samba 3.0.28a.
Side question: should I upgrade to 3.2? Keep in mind that means finding binaries for ubuntu or compiling from source for a server and 20 clients.
Basically wbinfo -u and -g work, getent passwd works, getent group DOES NOT WORK.
My domain is called

winbind: wbinfo -g sees "domain users", getent group does not
I have configured winbind on a Linux file server, connecting to a
Samba PDC. When I run wbinfo -g, I can see the group "domain users".
On the other hand, when I run getent group, I do not see this group.
Apart from a few other groups, all groups are visibile in both wbinfo
-g and getent group.
When running for the first time wbinfo -u, getent passwd and wbinfo
-g, I got the results

FreeBSD, winbindd and Domain Groups
I have installed SAMBA from the ports collection and have run into a problem.
I am using winbind and I am able to list the groups and users from the
Windows 2003 Server (wbinfo -u, wbinfo -g, getent passwd, getent group)
without any problem.
I am able to display the shares on the SAMBA server using net view without
any problem.
However, when I try to connect to the share, I receive a message

Listing Domain Local Groups from a Samba Member (NT4 PDC)
Good Morning to all,
Sorry if this is spam to some of you, not sure if this
is more technical or not...
Considering i have been fighting for a week now on this trying all
possible checks and configs out there on the net, i thought i better
come to the experts. ;o)
My last resort is to upgrade to latest samba ver which might help but i
think the bug was not fixed in this version not sure.. :o\

Winbind panic - bug #5551 not completely solved in version 3.0.31?
I started my AD-member server with the DC not being present.
Afterwards, I executed the "good practice" sequence from the howtos for
testing a installation:
"testparm ..."
"nmblookup -d ..."
"nmblookup -M ..."
"nmblookup __SAMBA__ ..."
"smbclient -L ..."
And some domain tests:
"net ads testjoin"
"net ads lookup"

wbinfo works fine, getent only works for builtin groups
Hi
I am having a lot of trouble getting users from a trusted domain to access
shares and files. getent passwd / get group doesn't retrieve domain users
or groups, so I can't set permissions for the users or groups from the
trusted domain
The domain having problems is:
Ubuntu 6.06 Server
Samba Version 3.0.22
The trusted domain is:
Ubuntu 8.04 Server
Samba Version 3.0.28a

samba 3.0.33 / AD / winbind / no users returned from nested groups
Hi all,
I've not found a search that addressed this problem I'm seeing with 3.0.33
(Centos 5.3 3.0.33-3.7.el5), and before I go further down the diagnostic
process, I thought I'd check if what I am doing is supposed to work.
I have an install of Centos 5.3 connected to active directory, using winbind
& idmap_rid (it is only serving files via samba).

Winbind syslog errors and Domain Local Groups
Hello all.
I'm relatively new to Samba, and haven't been able to track down a
solution to this particular problem.
I use Samba/Winbind to authenticate FreeBSD machines against a
Windows 2003 Active Directory. That all works fine. The problem is
that groups in the AD of type "Security Group - Domain Local" are
causing winbindd a lot of grief. Every time the winbindd daemon is

Samba 3.0 beta 3 issues
Hi there,
I'm using Samba 3.0 beta 3 on RH 9 (connecting to a Windows 2000 domain,
as a member server) and I'm having trouble keeping samba running
reliably. At random times it seems to stop recognising names from the
domain. Restarting winbind fixes the problem, but then it occurs
randomly again, usually once or twice a day. At least once it has fixed
itself after being broken overnight

getent passwd fails inside freebsd jail using samba 3.4.14
I've been messing around with running samba 3.4.14 inside a freebsd jail over
the last couple of days, and am running into an odd problem where wbinfo -u
and wbinfo -g succeed, but getent passwd fails (insofar that it shows only
local users, but none of the domain users).
Here's my smb.conf:

Windows clients aren't synching profiles
Hi. I used to have samba set up on a Fedora Core 3 server that acted as a
PDC for a dozen Windows XP clients. I hade roaming profiles working fine.
Then I decided to upgrade (reformat) to Fedora Core 6 for the added harware
support. I didn't save the right files and hosed my roaming profile (SID
issue, I guess). Now I'm remaking the PDC on Fedora Core 6. I'll start

Domain reconnection after network outage. (ME too)
Hello,
I have a problem that seems to be similar as Ollivers
(http://article.gmane.org/gmane.network.samba.general/61240/) but I cant
find any answer to his question.
After a network outage the samba server can't "reconnect" even after a
_reboot_ of the whole server.
I'm running Debian stable Samba 3.0.14a-3.
The message I get in log.windbindd

getent group fails on member server after upgrade to 3.5.5
I have a member server joined to a samba 3 domain. It was working fine
with 3.4.8 but after an upgrade to 3.5.5 (debian lenny with backports)
getent group no longer works.
getent passwd works fine, wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g work fine
I upgraded some other servers which are DC's and those work fine.

NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_GROUP

via smbclient I get

Overloaded winbind
I'm running Samba 3.0.4 on Red Hat Enterprise ES v3 (Update 2), utilizing ACLs on ext3. Yesterday I discovered that my backup application (Galaxy 5.0) doesn't back up ACLs and won't until the next release (sometime this fall). I figured that I'd do a "poor man's backup" of the ACLs by running "getfacl -R --absolute-names /shares > /root/acls" on a daily
