Log Query
Hi, listers,
I have been seeing these errors in the logs for awhile now. Are they important
enough to worry about?

Administrator
Hi to the list.
Our network = mix of Win98 and XP Pro logging onto Samba3.04 hosted on SuSE9.1
Auth is via passwd and smbpasswd.
No Microsoft AD at all - Samba does all the auth, therefore winbind is not
required?
I would like to logon to some of the XP Pro boxes as a normal network user,
but at the same time be 'Administrator' on the machine. Adding myself to the

HTB bug?
Hi!
A couple of weeks ago we started using the Linux TC implementation to shape
clients (using HTB) and since then our QoS box started crashing every now
and again (talk about inconvenient timing :P).
First we suspected hardware, but we replaced the hardware this week and it
still keeps crashing. Current machine specs:
Celeron 400 MHz
128MB Ram
128MB Compact Flash storage

Spurious hangups on Sangoma A102d, Trixbox 2.6.1
[also posted on Trixbox trunk forum]
I am also working with Sangoma directly to debug this, but so far no real
luck. TrixBox 2.6.1, A102d card with V33 firmware (latest) and WANPIPE
3.2.6 (3.2.7 is out, but nothing has changed that would affect this
problem). The system gets about 200 calls inbound on the trunk, which is
not very heavily used, and of those calls one or two a day is randomly

libvirt, openSUSE, SuSeFirewall2 and port forwarding
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hello list,
I thought I had already asked this question, but apparently I just
started writing a draft mail and never sent it (at least I can't find
it in the archives).
Has anyone setup qemu VMs using libvirt on openSUSE, and has gotten
port forwarding to work? I used on of the many scripts out there, that
go into /etc/libvirt/hooks/qemu, and

compressed audio tutorial - "major" update
I've made a large update to the introduction to compressed audio. I
completely rewrote the first section, which I wasn't happy with. It now
features two diagrams (worth 1000 words each!), and is broken up into a
couple of sections.

I have also continued to tweak other sections based on feedback from email
and this forum.

SuSe 9.1 startup issue
Tom,
I am NOT subscribed (yet). I dropped SuSeFirewall2 in favor of
shorewall to get past the configuration hurdles I as experiencing.
At the moment, when my SuSe 9.1 starts up, I can see shorewall processing
the rules, policies, etc. and I see no errors and then moves on with the
rest of the SuSe boot process .
However, no traffic passes through using the rules.
I run an iptables -L and I

RE: No subject by Steve M
Just responding in case this may be of help to somebody with firewalling
issues. Not sure if this is off on a tangent to the original
question...
Here are three different forms of common firewall scripts and ways of
getting SIP to work behind them. The third one has some additional
stuff beyond just SIP although I can't remember why I wrote it that way.
I've been having no fun using

[PATCH] p2v: un-duplicate common dependencies
Move all the dependencies with the same name in all the distributions to
a single list at the end.
There should be no change to the package list used to build the p2v ISO.

Problem with Java applications
Hi,
my name is Dieter and this is my 1st post to the list.
I''m currently using shorewall 2.2.5 on SuSE 9.2 and java 1.4.2_06. Overall everything works as expected.
The problem I have occurs with previous versions of shorewall, too.
Problem: When I start a java application like crushftp it takes about 2 minutes until the server is functional.
If I try to interrupt the startup process

Multiple Ethernet Cards: Ignoring one of them
Hello,
I have recently had 'Broadband' (Cable) Internet installed in my house
and I have setup the my Linux PC to do Network Address Translation for
my Windows PC. This system has worked well with the PPP modem, and I
know that a full Proxy server would be better, but at the moment I
haven't got the time to set one up etc.
This setup worked fine:

[PATCH 2/4] p2v: fix dependencies for SLES / openSUSE
Use the common denominator for SLES and openSUSE in the dependencies.
For example most of NetworkManager pieces and metacity aren't provided
on SLES.
ifconfig is in the net-tools-deprecated package in openSUSE Factory,
which means after openSUSE Leap 42.2. Older versions have it in the
net-tools package. Adding this complexity only to add ifconfig because
sysadmins prefer it isn't too

Mini Samba-SuSE Firewall2 HOWTO
(Please forgive the cross posting; I know many SuSE users subscribe to
both the Samba and SuSE-e discussion groups and will get this message
twice.)
I had always been frustrated trying to get SuSE's Firewall2 to play
nicely with Samba and support seamless network browsing. After much
experimentation and a lot of Googling, I was finally able to get this
working. By "working",

Problem with SuSE 8.1 & Samba 2.2.5 PDC
Hi All,
I am trying to set up samba simply as a standalone Primary Domain
Controller, but unfortunatley - for the last three days at least, it just
does not want to play!
i cannot find a problem in my smb.conf file and to proove that it works, i
can log into the samba server via the linux command line with smbclient.
The problem is the windows machines, when to go to log into the domain, i
