Freebsd + Samba + Ldap + Acls -> No locking file
Hello..
File server freebsd 6.2-STABLE + samba-3.0.25a + ldap + acls
Problem:
I've a situation where file locking does not seem to be functioning as expected, in that
more than one user can open and write to a file without any
notifications being displayed about the file already being opened by
another user.
I have two Windows XP clients accessing the same shared file, user1 has
the file

Dovecot "Mailbox sharing between users".
Hi
I have appended the important bits of my server configuration to the end
of this email
I am trying to get "Mailbox sharing between users" to work.
For starters it is very hard to follow the doc only
https://doc.dovecot.org/configuration_manual/shared_mailboxes/shared_mailboxes/
without an actual example. I tried to use this (sorry in German)

voicemail.conf locking problem
I'm wondering if anyone is having problems when
multiple users concurrently change their voicemail
passwords.
Consider the following scenario (based on
vm_change_password() in app_voicemail.c):
- user1 wishes to change his password so
voicemail.conf is opened and read into a buffer
- user1 changes his password
- user2 wishes to change his password so
voicemail.conf is opened and read into a

question regarding samba permissions
I want to make a subfolder read only for certain users.
for example: /data/pool is public rwx for all users.
and now i would like to make a /data/pool/subfolder only rwx for user1 and grant read only permissions to user2 and user3
how do i do this? any links or direct tips on that?
my suggestion would be something like this, but as you can imagine it didn't work:

Various permission issues with SAMBA4+AD and windows clients
Hello, I'm having perms issues with my current setup which I can't
figure out exactly.
First, here's my setup :
- Fedora 16 (hostname = oslo) acting as a PDC on SAMBA4 with integrated AD
- Bind 9.8 properly configured on oslo
- Domain name = DEVNET
- linux users local to oslo, having their homes at the proper place
(/home/user1, /home/user2, etc)
- domain users properly created with

Windows 7/Vista problem with offline files synchronization - samba 3.5.4 domain controller
While using SAMBA 3.5.4 as a primary domain controller for Windows
Workstations I have problems with offline files synchronization.
While using Windows XP everything works great, there is still no
problems with machines with XP.
Problems started with Vista Business, there is a lot of synchronization
conflicts. Windows 7 also have problems with proper offline files
synchronization. Most

Symlinked mailboxes and dovecot-uidlist.lock
I have a scenario where I have two users, one account (user1) with it's
own Maildir account, and another account (user2) (which I wish to see
the same messages) with a symlinked Maildir to user1's Maildir.? I.E.:
/home/user1/Maildir
/home/user2/Maildir (where this Maildir is symlinked to /home/user1/Maildir)
Both users are in a group together (usergroup), and so all of the

Multiple user sharing a single mailbox
I'm designing a system where some but not all groups of users want to share
a single mailbox, i.e the user will not have there own inbox. I think this
is possible by setting up a user database that returns the same mail
location and possible the same home directory. This sharing would only
occur in a single domain.
Example User Database
UserID | home | mail

Fwd: SMB question
Hi, I sent you an email but now when I read it again, it looks like there
were some mistakes in it... Please ignore that and address only the
following message:
Hi,
I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I really couldn't find
it anywhere on the web and if you could only provide me with a quick hint,
it would be really helpful!

idmap problems
Many thanks Rowland. Yes, I don't understand idmaps, but I _think_ I'm getting it. I have added the gid of 60002 for Domain Admins and undertaken some 'chgrp' tasks. I've now got a domain member with shares that presents the correct ownership. All looks good.
I'm still slightly confused why I have two ranges within my member smb.conf:
idmap config * : backend = tdb

Samba and AFS
I think I have come across what seems to be a bug in the interplay between
Samba and AFS. I'm running 1.9.16p11 on an IBM RS/6000 (AIX 4.1.5) with the
AFS support included (AFS 3.4a). The client machine is running Windows 95.
I've created an AFS area which is writeable (rlidwk) to an AFS protection
group. The group contains two AFS users, say user1 and user2. If user1
creates a file in

scaling to multiple data files
Hello,
I have logging information for multiple machines, which I am trying to
summarize and graph. So far, I process each host individually, but I
would like to summarize the user count across multiple hosts. I want to
answer the question "how many unique users logged in on a certain day
across a group of machines"?
I'm not quite sure how to scale the data frame and analysis to

idmap problems
I've spent some time updating, upgrading and generally consolidating an old Samba AD. I've managed to remove a very old unsupported (4.2) Samba AD DC following migration to a couple of new DC's - that seems to have worked out OK. Workstation logons and GPO's working fine.
I'm now left with one problem after joining a new Samba (4.5.12) member server to the domain for file
