smbpasswd -w account
Hi,
I've setup Samba NT based networks with OpenLDAP database.
But to make sambas operations works fetching data to LDAP, it should have
an account on LDAP that able to write some objects, such as passwords
(when changing passwd) or object creation (when registering or joining to
directory) .The scope of this account is strong enough to any containers
on the directory, such as

Novell EDirectory as LDAP backend
Hi,
is anybody out there who is using Novell Edir. with samba?
I have searched the archive and found some random notes but no real
success story.
Here is what I have achived so far. Maybe someone can give me some hints.
I have tried the samba-nds.schema that comes with the 2.2.7a tar ball.
While I was able to import/add it to EDir. it did not work for me,
because the "lmPassword"

domain or not domain?
Hi all,
that's my first post in this mailing list. I'm looking for a very
special and strange samba configuration (at least from my point of view
and my experience) and I'm not sure it is possible to reach this goal.
Anyway, this is my request:
I'm running a M$ Windows 2003 Serve as PDC with Active Directory and
file server, and I would like to configure in a Linux machine a

simplest way (set of functions) to parse a file
Hello,
What would be the best set of R functions to parse and transform a file?
My file looks as shown below. I would like to plot this data and I need to parse it into a single data frame that sorts of "transposes the data" with the following structure:
> df <- data.frame(n=c(1,1,2,2),iter=c(1,2,1,2),step=as.factor(c('Step 1', 'Step2', 'Step 1',

Removing requirement for local machine accounts
I'm looking for a way to not have to worry about machine accounts on the
server. My organization is looking to move thousands of machines and many
locations to XP and, if possible, we'd like to avoid the headache of
managing more system and samba accounts. Basically, I'd like a way to say "I
don't care who joins my domain, just do whatever is necessary to make them
think they

General Question: WinXP autodomain?
Hello List,
I am using Samba as PDC for some time now and I want do make the process
of joining the domain somewhat more elegant ;)
I use partimage to deploy images of my Windows XP-installation to the
computers in my lab. In order to automate the process of joining these
computers to the domain, I use some small perl-scripts.

Help with Keyword Corral
I've been trying to get Keyword Corral (http://www.johncow.com/brand-new-free-keyword-corral-tool-by-john-cow-dot-com) installed with Wine 1.0.1 on Ubuntu 8.10 and the best I can manage is the program appears to start up and then quits.
Unfortunately, I've only recently moved to Ubuntu and there's a lot I don't have a clue about.
I've tried running it in a Virtualbox VM but

Samba vs NtBackup Round 3.0.5
Hi all,
I experienced the same problem with 3.0.4 that Jeremy and Bruno were discussing - NTBackup unable being to connect to shares and erroring out with 'Access Denied'. I have today upgraded to 3.0.5 (using the Debian Woody packages) and that didn't fix the problem. Was the fix in 3.0.5r1 only applicable to 2000/2003 server? I am stuck in the dark ages of NT 4 here, maybe that is a

Single precision
I am trying to port a huge Fortran routine that has been written
using type Real (single precision) instead of Real*8. R works only with
double precision and I got absurd results when calling the routine. Is
it possible to make it work properly without changing the source code?
I am running V0.64.1 of R for Unix.
Thanks

32 bit programs and libraries on a 64 bit architecture
greetings.
today i attempted to update update for the nss-util. i selected the
x86_64, clicked apply, error message popped up showing a conflict
because the i686 was also installed.
opened yumex to see what i686 was installed and found a bunch of i686.
because system is a dual core 64 bit, i decided to remove all i686
packages, programs first, then lib files.
during reboot, thought hit that

Samba + LDAP problem...
Ok, after three more days of pulling my hair out, I'm still stuck. I've got
what I think is the problem, but I'm sure how to fix it.
I'm building a Samba PDC using the IDEALX.org HOWTO. I'm using samba 2.2.7
and openldap 2.0.27 that I compiled from the Red Hat Network. This is being
built on Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES 2.1.
Ok, So I get to the part of the HOWTO that

Big Thanks to Johnny
As a result of following Johnny's handy dandy guide, the
postfix/clamav/spamassassin/squirrelmail/dovecot install on one of my
new 4.3 boxes was mostly painless. I've been using postfix and keeping
in touch with Wietse since 98-ish so I'm quite comfy with postfix, but
all this new fangled mail scanning stuff is a bit confusing to an old
dog like me. :-) It seems to mostly work,
