Multiple problems: installing SWAT, no longer access to a restored (after deletion) share, ACL inheritance
I'm a job trainee, very new to Linux and Samba and was asked to set up a server based on OpenSUSE and Samba. The idea is not to make a production server but to investigate how and how well this works (the company is Windows exclusive at the moment)
I got as far as properly installing Linux and Samba 3 with the help of the guides on the OpenSUSE website. But there are a few things that still

I've looked in /usr/local/samba/swat for help
and even the samba source docs and can't
find anything on setting up swat.
I've also looked at samba.org/samba/docs,
but can find a swat setup doc.
Can some please point me in the right direction?

Changing SWAT port or removing 2.2.7
Some of you have already read about my newbie fortune with this Samba3
install. Thanks to those who answered my original questions.
Now I have something which I know is probably academic, and perhaps
still newbie-related. When I installed Samba3 on Friday, it took me a
little while to figure out that my names required adding a 3 to the end
(SWAT3, SAMBA3, TESTPARM3, et al). I did not uninstall

Swat inactive, xinetd issue?
Since I've upgraded to Redhat 7.2 I cannot get swat to work,
I am using the 2.4.7-10 kernal with samba 2.2.7 installed.
I have checked all the applicable files, edited them accordingly as per
Gary Fournerat's
excellent How-to. No joy.
I am pretty certain this is an xinetd issue. I never had this difficulty
with inetd.
I know that SAMBA is running as I can see the server from this

Problem with SWAT on MacOS X 10.3.3 server
Hi everybody
I have installed SWAT services under MacOS X Server 10.3.3 by adding
the service to Netinfo manager and set enabled = yes in
/etc/xinet.d/swat file.
I try to login as root in Safari (I have enabled the root account),
but keep getting the messages that the name and the password is
incorrect.
Any ideas anyone ?
Best regards

remote swat enabling
I've done this before and can't remember how. Also I have searched the
archives and can't find it. Maybe some of us can come up with a better way
searching the archives. My current way takes a lot of time. Anyway I am
trying to enable swat from a remote location and there is some file
somewhere that says only allow it from local but I can't remember what file
that is. Can

SWAT, where ? Got it, not working :-(
G'day....
Simple solution...
Uninstall samba/swat packages... Reinstall... test.
swat should work "right out of the box" ...
All the best...
