Samba share to access windows folders in linux.
Hi, I am trying to access folders on a windows system on a linux system using the command, smbmount '//a.b.c.d/CCViews/abcd/abcd_Linux_dev' '/root/pqrs/LinuxDev' -o username=abcd/<domain>,uid=abcd,gid=abcd This prompts for a password and I give the correct domain password here. It gives me the error: 21896: tree connect failed: ERRDOS - ERRnosuchshare (You specified an

Preventing deletion of folders under a SAMBA share
I am trying to set up a basic Samba server and configure it so that folders under a share cannot be deleted accidentally by a user. The ideal scenario would be to have the top-level folders under the share non-deleteable, but folders and files are able to be created under it. I cannot find any easy way of doing this directly, but thought that the use of the 'veto' option would work

Using the right network interface
Hi everyone, samba 2.2.5 The server I'm using has 2 interfaces so using the interface parameter I'm telling samba to use eth0 but for some reason when I do netstat it is listening on eth1 interface = eth0 (the IP is 192.168.6.10) netstat -an udp 0 0 138.79.161.225:137 0.0.0.0:* udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:137 0.0.0.0:* udp 0 0 138.79.161.225:138

Sync Linux <-> NT Domain passwords
Is there a way to syncronise the Windows Domain passwords with the linux account passwords? SAMBA passes authentication to an NT box password server = * Users have local accounts on the Linux box and get access to SAMBA shares depending on which group (linux) they belong to and if their authentication credentials were correct. I've tried synchronising their passwords so when they change

want to access a Windows Share from a Red Hat 8 linux box
Try something like mount -t smbfs -o username=user, password=password, workgroup=domain //windows_server/folder /local_folder you may also want to add ,ip=<Windows_server_IP> if it can't resolve the name Thanks Steve Simeonidis Network Engineer, Spherion Education Spherion Group Ltd "Making the Workplace Work Better" 1st Floor, 493 St. Kilda Rd, Melbourne VIC 3004,

Another winbind question (hopefully easy one)
I setup SAMBA to use winbind to authenticate of a WinNT PDC In the smb.conf I have a line template homedir = /home/winnt/%U which is file I also use the pam module to create directories for new users pam_mkhomedir.so skel=/etc/sambaskel umask=0077 which is fine again. My problem is that I can't tell or how do I tell pam_mkhomedir to create the directories in /home/winnt/<user>

OT: default password for HP printer
Thanks, Tim. But no, that didn't work. For the record, that page said: 1) password access requirement is turned OFF 2) username default is ADMIN 3) password is BLANK But I distinctly recall the username is "admin" (all lower case), even though the manual stated the username was "Admin". The password was short, like 5 or 6 characters, but definitely not blank. I

Request: please test modification to EWS calendar functionality
I have expanded the EWS calendar functionality within Asterisk 1.8 so it is now possible to access any calendar within an Exchange 2007 or 2010 server. I have put the changes onto the reviewboard for astrisk but currently no one responded. So if you use the EWS calendar functionality within Asterisk and would like to have access to any calendar in Exchange please try the patch in the

Samba getting user info from NT PDC
Hi! My boss asked me to be able to share some directories on a FreeBSD Samba server with users already created (and used) on a NT 4.0 PDC server. So I followed http://www.sugoi.org/bits/index.php?bit_id=10 I just replaced the Windows 2k part by adding the NetBIOS name of the machine to the NT PDC. When I did the smbpasswd trick it worked like charm: testsmb# smbpasswd -j CH-DOMAIN -r PDC

OT: default password for HP printer
For some reason the "tech support" people at Hewlett-Packard don't know what the default password is to access their printer's embedded web server (EWS). I got it myself from the installation manual six months ago and immediately set my own password which I have used since then, so I no longer remember what the default is. (It's really a longer story than that,

OT: default password for HP printer
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=officejet+8620+manual I concur - I don't believe there is a password on the EWS. You should be able to print out the network settings from the LCD control panel, which will be 2 or 3 pages and includes info you need like MAC address[es], default and user-set passwords, IP address[es], et cetera.

Windows XP Pro cannot access Samba
My WXPP PC cannot login to the Samba server although the Win2K and W9x PC's can. The XPP system has joined the domain, but when I rebooted the PC and tried logging in via the domain it complained about not having permission or an account which I've verified and have redone several times, but still I cannot login. Anyone have any information on how to fix this. --

Samba client configuration.
Hi, I am posting this on the list after 2 weeks of frustrating efforts to get my XP home machine to talk to the Samba server on my SuSE 9.2 Linux box. Described below is the crux of the problem. When I do an smbclient on the Linux box I can see the Windows machine listed. However, when I do a net view on the Windows XP Home machine I do not see the Samba box. Also, I get a System 1 error on
