Joining Samba to a non-Samba,non-AD, NT4 Domain
I am a Unix Admin, trying to join a NT4 domain. I do not have access to
the PDC.
When setting up a new machine, either Windows or Unix, on the domain, I
ask the NT admins to create a new machine account on the domain for my
machine. I then "associate" my machine with that machine account. I
say "associate" because I'm not exactly sure what happens, something

Dynamic Home Shares
Hello,
I am attempting to dynamically create user shares when they connect to the
server based on their username. I cannot use [homes]. My reasoning for this
is that the users require a $ at the end of the share or it becomes
confusing to them(long story). What I'm seeing is that some Windows XP
clients will connect to /home/<username> but other clients try to connect to

3.0.25 Winbind high CPU usage
I just upgraded from 3.0.23d to 3.0.25 and I'm noticing that winbind is
chewing up a lot of CPU usage.
There are always 2 winbindd processes and one uses about 80% cpu and the
other use 15% cpu.
When I run a tcpdump and look at the traffic going to/from the domain
controller winbindd is connected to, there is a constant flow of
traffic.
Here is the winbind setup from my smb.conf file:

Slow, Incorrect Group Resolution through Winbind
Hello. I am observing some strange behavior on a Linux system that has
joined a Windows Active Directory domain using the Samba suite. Our servers
are based on Ubuntu v12.04 but have kernel v3.12.17 and Samba v4.3.6.
The problem that I'm trying to understand is that group name resolution
through Winbind occasionally fails. Here's an example where one group name
could not be resolved. This

SAMBA ADS to NIS mapping
I am working in an environment with an HP-UX NIS that my Red Hat ES 4.x
system is using for Unix access controls.
My Red Hat system is serving as an NFS server for the HP-UX users who also
could be Windows users coming from a Windows Server 2003 active directory.
I have tested some configurations of SAMBA using winbind, but I don't get
the results I want. What happens when using winbind

Sharing out unix home directory via samba
Hello
Sharing out unix home directory via samba. Home directory is /home/%
username% . However, samba insists on sharing this directory as /home/%
domain%/%username% . So a user can see their home directory as server
%username% from windows. But, when they click on it, they get an error
and the samba log says that the share /home/%domain%/%username% doesn't
exist.
Thanks

no backend defined for idmap config
Hello Samba List,
I am currently running samba 3.3.2 joined to ADS and I am consistently
getting this error in the winbind log:
no backend defined for idmap config DOMAIN
Also, I seem to lose association between user and uid. I think it happens
when the winbind cache expires.
Here's my smb.conf:
