Issues/Questions about Samba 3.x.x versus it's Worki ng Status
Hi Jerry, First, thanks a lot for the answers! In regards, to your reply, can you provide a little bit more precisions here: 1. The question 1 was about not using winbindd when in ADS security mode. Is the answer still Yes? I know that it is true when in DOMAIN security mode. 2. About Question 6, from your answer, my understanding is that the Samba server must be in the same domain as the

Samba's ADS security mode on Sun Solaris
Hi, I have installed and configured with success Samba 3.0.2a (using a binary package) on a Sun Solaris 8 using the DOMAIN security mode. I used the usermaps.txt file to simplify the overall configuration of Unix vs Windows users, e.g. no winbindd/ldap/pam/etc... I now have a requirement to set it up using the ADS security mode. So, my understanding is that I need to start from the Samba

Small bug with Samba 3.0.7's smbd process (or just a bad compilation)???
Hi, I have compiled and installed Samba 3.0.7 with MIT Kerberos 1.3.5 and OpenLDAP 2.2.17. The reason for it is that I need to authenticate Windows' user accesses to a Samba share via the Samba's ADS security mode. I found out one potential problem with Samba 3.0.7 and I have one general question: Problem ------------ Normally, when Samba is started, there should be one smbd

Samba performance/stability issue...
Hi, I have installed Samba 3.0.2a on a Sun Solaris 8 system using a binary package (which was compiled with no particlar option) downloaded from the www.sunfreeware.com web site. The Samba server is installed and configured with the Domain security level and has joined a Windows 2003 AD server (in native mode). I have created a share and a unix logon. The unix logon is associated to that share

Joining Samba 3.0.2 vanilla to ADS
I've been looking at several posts for weeks now and finally concluded through testing how to install Samba 3.X into the Windows Active Directory environment. I was completely under the impression that you needed to load Kerbos/ LDAP and a bunch of other stuff. In our case our ADS is running in native mode and I was able to join the domain quite easily. I've tested authentications and

Kerberos vs NTLM 0.12 in Samba log files...
Hi, I am trying to make Samba 3.0.7 work with ADS security mode. In the Win2K3 server's Event Viewer, I see the client's logon. In that log entry's properties, I see that the "logon process" used is Kerberos. However, in the Samba log files, the protocol selected is "NTLM 0.12" and I see a lot of Samba log entries regarding NTLM authentication, nothing about

R-beta: Hypergeometric Probabilities
In both versions of R to which I currently have access (R-0.16.1 and R-0.61.1), "phyper" stops returning correct cumulative probabilities as the parameters of the hypergeometric distribution get large. For example, when N1=1345, N2=1055, and n=1330, phyper returns either 0 or 1, and nothing in between. Looking at phyper.c, it's clear what's happening. First a term (called

2 log files for the same client workstation accessing a Samba sha re
Hi, I am using Samba 3.0.7. Why is there a log filename with the IP address and another one with the machine name in the samba/var directory? For example : log.10.x.x.x. log.machine_name_at_10.x.x.x Note: I deleted all logs before restarting Samba and connecting to a share. Both log files are created at about the same time. Is this a normal Samba behavior? Regards, Marcello

no ForceFeedback in Wine
Hey Guys, The ForceFeedback from my Microsoft Sidewinder ForceFeedback Wheel doesn't work with Wine. I compiled wine myself and "ac_cv_member_struct_ff_effect_direction=yes" was set in the config.log like it is told here: http://wiki.winehq.org/ForceFeedback I also checked that FF is working with BZFlag under Linux. When i play BZFlag with Wine, the FF-Effects are missing. I

Winbind on Slackware - no auth but all the rest OK
Hi list, I got a Winbind issue that I'm stuck with since a very long time, this is getting ridiculous. On our Linux shell server (Slackware 9.1), I Installed the whole samba from self-compilation, tried many different configure options but mostly --without-pam --with-ldap, and everything required from all the HowTos I've read. I start winbindd via: # /usr/local/samba/sbin/winbindd -F -i

RSA versus DSA / Protocol 1 versus Protocol 2
I have been searching the archives and confused about some points that I am hoping could be cleared up. RSA versus DSA I seem to see a lot of messages saying this. That DSA is slow. DSA was added only to avoid a patent which is now expired. RSA is the preferred authentification method. DSA should be avoided. Which all sounds fine to me and I think I agree with that. Assuming this applies

[LLVMdev] function inlining of llvm-gcc versus gcc, and llvm-g++ versus g++?
Does llvm-gcc do more, less, or the same amount of function inlining as gcc? What about llvm-g++ and g++? I am specifically interested in inlining that occurs when I run with the --emit-llvm command line flag like this: llvm-gcc -c --emit-llvm foo.c thus generating bitcode. That is, I am not interested at this moment in what happens when I run the opt or llc tools on the bit code after its

Active X versus Java, Linux versus NT
Having recently read about the lack of security of Active X controls, I was wondering if I could get some specifics about its lack of security versus the security of JAVA. Also about the security of JAVA under Linux. I understand that MS''s concept of security is a) investigate the vendor, b) issue a certificate of authority, 3) vendor is now trused to do anything (fox guarding the hen

Getent Not Working
I hope I'm submitting this to the right place.... Hello All, I've been pouring over the groups for a couple of days now, and found a few problems and setups similiar to mine, but I'm not having much luck trying to resolve the issue. My setup currently is a RHFC4 Box running Samba 3.0.21a-1 on a Win2k AD Domain. Now I have no problem running "wbinfo -t -u or -g" I get

Joining Samba to ADS domain (win2k3)
Hello, I am having trouble joining Samba to my ADS domain. I am using Samba 3 and krb5. I have configured and tested krb5 and know that it is functioning as it should be. I can successfully authenticate users using kinit. I've also configured winbindd. When I exicute net ads joing -U <admin username> and enter the proper password samba generates the following aborting the process at the

winbind - getent passwd
I can't find the thread but someone last week was having trouble with 'getent passwd' not returning the Windows domain users as well as the local users. 'wbinfo -u' worked but not 'getent passwd'. I just finished a new server and had the same problem. Turns out I overlooked the the symbolic links in /lib. The file libnss_winbind.so needs to have a link to

Make domain users/groups available locally through Winbind
Hi list, trying to add a new DC on my samba AD domain, I noticed that wbinfo -u/-g was working properly but getent, id and so on commands no. The new DC is samba 4.1.7 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS x64. After digging for a while (the other DC was working properly and the difference was that was running on a 32 bit machine) I found that when running `id` command with strace libnss_winbind.so.2 was not
