Disabling Roaming Profile Support
From http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/ProfileMgmt.html: Disabling Roaming Profile Support The question often asked is, ?How may I enforce use of local profiles?? or ?How do I disable roaming profiles?? There are three ways of doing this: In smb.conf Affect the following settings and ALL clients will be forced to use a local profile: logon home =

Windows XP client - intermittent 'network name cannot be found' loading profile
I have seen a number of postings which seem similar to the problem I am having, but am yet to find a fix for my situation. Problem is as follows: - Samba 3.0.2 rpm installed on Red Hat Enterprise ES 3.0, configured as PDC with ldapsam backend - Windows XP Professional client joined to the Samba domain. The XP client successfully joins the domain and can browse and access shares (including the

Windows XP client - intermittent 'network name cannotbefound' loading profile
John, I have tried the suggestions you provided. I have setup Dynamic DNS as per the Samba 3 By Example book and this is all updating correctly. I have run the validation steps indicated in the book and all names are resolvable and reachable via hosts, DNS and WINS. I am not sure why winbind would need to be turned off, but seeing as I do not need that currently, I have tried disabling it; the

How to test roaming profiles
Hi, I'm working on a server that was upgraded a few weeks ago (Linux Mandriva was reinstalled with a more up-to-date Samba version which is 3.3.2). Now, roaming profiles no longer work. I even wonder what would be the proper to way to test them. Workstations are running Windows XP. I followed the procedure for Win2000/XP located here:

More roaming profile-Windows XP Data
Hello, I have a Samba 3.0.2a PDC that I have joined server Windows XP machines to. Joining the domain was painfully enough, but now I am having problems with roaming profiles. We initially thought the problem was intermittent, but we finally figured out that if the same user logs in again and again the roaming profile is found and login proceeds normally. When a second user attempts to

''m having trouble with BackgrounDrb
Hi. I thought that BackgrounDrb was the perfect solution for my long running report production tasks. But I can''t seem to get anything useful back out of it. I set up a simple test worker that just does class TestWorker < BackgrounDRb::Rails attr_reader :pupil def do_work(args) @progress=0 @pupil=Pupil.find(3) sleep rand*10 @progress=100 end when I try to

[Fwd: Re: Windows XP client - intermittent 'network name cannot befound' loading profile]
Doesn't really resolve the issue, but in my case the problem went away when using physical machines rather than virtual machines. The environments are identical - RH ES 3.0 with Windows XP sp1a client (no hotfixes or GPO settings applied). Thanks for everyone's help. Roaming Profiles
I'm mulling over the idea of replacing my Win 2k MS AD using Samba. But I'd like to retain roaming profile capability for all my users. Based on your experience is it stable enough to implement for a production environment? I have only 30 using Win 2k Pro and some XP. What are the pit falls I need to look out for? Thank you! Joe

Problem Referencing Fixture Objects
In my tests, I use fixtures, eg pupils.yml might be: jimmy: id: 100003 known_as: Jimmy surname: Page academic_year_id: 1 gender: m In the test, @jimmy (the referencing style referred to in Agile Web Dev....) is nil, whereas pupil(:jimmy) returns the expected Pupil object. What gives? Robert

[Samba 3.0.10] Trouble with roaming profiles: win XP clients 'network name not found'
Hi all! I have a problem and I can't seem to figure out what is causing it. Because of this I think it's important to tell the whole story... One of my clients has a small office network, where these used to be a Samba 2.x.x server using smbpasswd acting as PDC. A few month ago I installed a new server with samba 3.0.9 (now upgraded to 3.0.10) and OpenLDAP for authentication (as

roaming profiles moved to a new machine - big confusion
Hello samba dancers, I'm Friedrich Strohmaier and new to this mailing list. More important: I'm (very) new to PDCing Computers in a network, and I ran in big troubles doing so. Try to tell a long story in short: I'm a fairly experienced administrator for linux systems, and was orderd to move a serverinstallation (SuSE7.0, Samba2.2.x) to a new machine. The old machine did stop

Windows XP client - intermittent 'network name cannot befound' loading profile
Hello Tim, I have verified and recreated your problem. As soon as I switch SAMBA option security=share , I have exactly the same problems like you, when trying to access a SAMBA share via Windows "Add Network Places" The only option I have to logon is DOOMIT\Guets (DOOMIT is the NetBIOS Name of my samba server). HOWEVER: There *aren't any* problems, if I try to map the share as

XP load roaming profile only after reboot
Hello, I have a problem with Samba 2.2.5 and Win XP roaming profiles. All works fine. XP load the profile from the server at login and stores them on the server at log out. But if the user logs in twice, XP does not load the profile from the server, it uses its local profile also if the profile on the server is newer. After a reboot XP loads the server profile once again. If I disable local
