connecting to resource IPC$ problems -samba 2.2.8
hello I am running Samba 2.2.8 (latest) that I downloaded the
binary
from the Samba site. I have this problem in older versions of
Samba as well.
I have under Redhat 8.0

WinXP SP2 machines disappear from the workgroup controlled by Samba
Hi,
I have a problem which I couldn't solve myself thus decided to ask here. My
setup is rather basic. There are over 20 PCs in the network, most of them
running WinXP Home SP2 and WinXP Pro SP2, a few Windows 98 SE and the Linux
(Debian) server running samba 3.0.7(-1). They all are in the same subnet.
Windows clients and samba are configured to participate in the same
workgroup. WINS is

Win98SE to Samba 2.0.10 Problems
Thanks for the answers so far but I haven't been able to come up with an
solution yet :(
Some new info (see bottom of email for history):
1. I upgraded to 2.0.10 on my Mandrake 8.0, no change to the transfer
problem.
2. I attempted to ftp a file from the Win 98SE PC to my Samba Server,
didn't work. So I can assume that it is not specifically Samba problem.
3. I have changed the NIC cards

''resource or device no longer available' error with large files
Hi.
I have a base 10 hub, a SAMBA 2.2.6 server on a
p200mmx, and a win98se box. Everything in
DIAGNOSTICS.txt checks out fine, and everything seems
to work ok until i try to send an iso image across.
That is when smbd crashes (about halfway/300M), and
win gives the error 'cannot copy or replace
<filename>: the resource or device is no longer
available. That is the exact error

vfat / ftruncate problem
I recently added a 60Gig HD to my little linux server at home with the intention of sharing it via Samba to all my PCs which run Windows 98SE. I really want to use vfat file system on it.
The server is running Mandrake 8.1, so kernel 2.4.something, and the Samba that came with it.
Much to my disappointment I quickly discovered poor performance copying files to it, the copy is like slow to get

Error: Access to the resource \\netbiosname has been disallowed?
Hey all,
I have a samba server running 3.0.10 and I am getting a weird response
from PC (XP and 2K) clients. The PCs are joined to the domain as is
the samba server. When any PCs try to connect using the netbios name
or IP I get the error:
Access to the resource \\netbiosname has been disallowed.
If I unjoin the PCs from the ADS domain, they can connect fine. I see
no kerberos errors and

Problem booting from CF/SD cards and USB Flashdrives using syslinux
I've run into a rather odd problem. It seems that I can format and make
bootable CF/SD cards and USB Flashdrives under Windows 98SE and MS-DOS
6.22 that will boot to a A: prompt on my system.
But when I try making the same CF/SD cards and USB Flashdrives bootable
under linux using syslinux I get nothing, not even a error message. It's
like the syslinux bootloader doesn't even

Can't Access Win2000 Shared Resources from Linux
Greetings,
I'm running Linux Fedora Core 2 with Samba 3.0.3-5
installed.
In Gnome, when I click Computer->Network->Windows
Network->Workgroup I can see the Windows boxes on my
network (2 Win98SE + 1 Win2000 Workstation).
I can access everything on the 2 Win98SE boxes. I can
print from Linux to a shared printer on one of the
Win98SE boxes.
When I click on the icon for the Win2000

Print drivers and Windows2000 clients...
Greetings,
We are running Samba 2.2.0a on Slackware 8.0 w/2.2.19 kernel with a mix of
Windows 98SE and Windows2000 Pro clients (about 60 98SE clients and 10 Win2k
Pro clients). We aspire for this box to be a fax server using Hylafax 4.1.2
and smbfax 1.4. Everything works fine for the Win98SE clients using the HP
IIP PS Cartridge printer driver from the 'Add Printer' wizard from Windows.

$ANYDIRIUSE does not exist or is not a directory, when connecting to [IPC$]
Samba fellows:
We are having a hard time trying to find out what is going wrong
with our samba configuration.
We are getting this error on the log file when trying to initate a new connection:

Help - Win 98SE can't write to shared drive
Hi
I can't write to a shared drive mounted on WIn98SE machine, from a Linux RH7 box
that is sharing a FAT 32 drive.
I can't write anything to this drive with usual command like create new folder
or text file in the WIN98se environment
FYI:
- The drive is properly mounted on the Linux Box with full rw at the Linux mount
level as well as the Samba mount level (full rw) too.
If someone can

FW: Was: Win98SE and Samba 2.0.10 Problems
Well as a further to my last, I broke down and put a copy of Win98SE on a
spare HDD in my Mandrake server box. First moment it was up and running, I
tried to transfer the files between the two problem computers and BINGO! It
worked. So sadly I must assume that the problem must lie on my Linux server
:(
As I have previously tried both Mandrake 8.0 and Redhat 7.1 and end up with
the same transfer

Was: Win98SE and Samba 2.0.10 Problems
Well the weekend didn't bring any solutions to this unhappy camper. I spent
most of my time trying to narrow down the problem again. I started out by
installing a quick copy of ZipSlack on the Win98SE machine to determine once
and for all if the problem was a Windows problem or not. Well, I tried a
simple FTP from the ZipSlack to my Mandrake 8.0 server and it hung up like
in Windows. So I

Samba 2.0.7 and Win98SE
I have been having an irritating problem with my home network. My
network consists of 1 PC running Mandrake 8.0 as the file server with Samba
2.0.7, three PCs running Win98SE and one PC running Win XP.
I have had the network running for almost two years in various OS
configurations and for the most part have had smooth operations. However,
my problem comes when I try and copy, move, or save any

questions from a newbie
I have several newbie questions - any help much appreciated:
1. I run a combination Windows 98 and XP home network - have been looking at
Linux on two boxes at home - one desktop - one laptop - RH 7.3
2 I can get samba to run okay and in each of the two Win98SE machines can
see them as localhost
3. I cannot access any resources on the Linux machines - Win98 asks for a
password - \\localhost\IPC$

Getting printer into w2k
I'm ready to take w2k and Bill Grates and hang them up by their balls.
Under Win98SE, it is easy to add a network printer attached to Samba.
But under w2k, it refuses to do it.
I've tried two ways to get the damn thing installed to the net and it fails.
First I did the route of adding a network printer. It browsed and found
my \\MRVIDEO\lp printer. It also found \\MRVIDEO\scroll,
