AD integration: "getent passwd" can't see *new* users, but "wbinfo -u" can
I have two different systems (on different networks) showing this behavior. Both are running Ubuntu Dapper/606.1 LTS with samba version 3.0.22 and windows 2003 sp1 servers (not R2). AD integration is done via winbind, with nss using winbind. At some point in time (which is unknown to me), the samba server stopped seeing new users, groups, machines which are added to AD. scenario: I add a new

Error Joining NT DOMAIN
I'm trying to use the documentation found with Samba-2.2.4 to set up a samba server under RH linux 7.2 (kernel 2.4.9-21) to join an existing NT domain for a couple of weeks with no success. I obtained the samba 2.2.4 source code, compiled with the following options to configure: --with-winbind --prefix=/usr/local/samba --with-smbwrapper --with-pam --with -pam_smbpass After compiling, I

Samba 3.0.3 on FC2: windows machine cannot join domain
I'm using Samba 3.0.3 on Fedora Core 2 with OpenLDAP 2.1.29 for a backend. I'm getting to typical "The user name could not be found." error upon trying to join a Windows box. I've gone through every digest on lists.samba.org and other sites and nothing has worked yet. Any suggestions: Here's what I've done so far: 1. Installed everything via RPMS: [root@smbtest

Re: Samba 3.0.3 on FC2: windows machine cannot join domain
After, oh, six months of attempts here and there to read everyone's experiences with Samba/LDAP and inability for a windows 2000/XP machine to join the domain, I finally discovered what was not working properly. In my smb.conf I put: add machine script = /usr/local/sbin/smbldap-useradd -w "%u" As instructed by many How-to's and Idealx. However, I thought to myself, %m

Unable to create principle and join domain with solaris / samba 3.5.8
Has anyone had any success using net ads join to create a new service principal and join Active Directory using samba 3.5.8. This works fine in 3.0.35 but I'm not able to get a working create/join with 3.5.8 In samba 3.0.35 (on a host which is already allowing kerberised loginsvia AD), the following works: net ads join createupn='CIFS/host.domain.com' \

Method to verify existance of trust account?
I'm still fighting with getting a Samba server (RH Linux 7.2, kernel 2.4.9-21, samba 2.2.4) to join an NT domain (NT 4.0, SP6). Everything I've read in the documentation indicates that this works well and readily, but I cannot get it to work. The error message received when attempting to join a domain is: ./smbpasswd -j TESTDOMAIN -r SMBTEST cli_net_auth2: Error

ADS Join and Insufficient Access
My agency is moving all users and computers to a new domain. Our current domain uses AD and the new domain will use AD. My current samba servers are running 3.0.20a with ADS security with winbind on Debian Stable (Sarge) with no problems. I set up a test samba server using 3.0.20b, the new krb5.conf and smb.conf. kinit works fine. ("Authenticated to Kerberos v5") I prestage the server

Unable to create subdirectories/files in samba mount when using vfs objects = glusterfs
Hi Team, I am trying to setup a samba CTDB cluster to export gluster volme as samba share. While CTDB cluster works well, I ran into an issue with creating subdirectories and also creating files/directories within subdictories when accessing the share from both linux and windows servers. Setup details : We have a three node cluster with nodes snode1, snode2 and snode3. I have a

Moving a Samba PDC from Solaris 2.8 to CentOS 4.4
Hello, I try to move a Samba-PDC (3.0.24) from Solaris 2.8 to CentOS 4.4 with the guidance from: http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/upgrades.html#id333969 (Replacing a Domain Controller) At the moment I am trying this in a test environment. This means the following (not the real names/IPs. Just for illustration ;-)): smb.conf entries: ... netbios name = smbtest interfaces =

Authentication problem with samba 3.3.4 on AIX 5.3
Hello all, we currently do have a problem with samba 3.3.4 on AIX 5.3. We have set up the samba system to integrate in our AD Domain. Integration was successfull (net ads join), wbinfo executes with parameters -ugt without any problems. Our smb.conf content follows at the end of this mail. We have defined just one share as follows: [smbtest] writeable = yes path = /gpfs/fbb/ls/cip valid users

Can't get 'root preexec' to run
Maybe I finally figured it out. I found that sentence "For example, the [test] and [homes] sections are unique disk shares; they contain options that map to specific directories on the Samba server." here: https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/using_samba/ch06.html Does that mean that this "preexec" in the [homes] section is not invoked if the user is accessing his or her home
