Setting up Samba on Solaris for Windows XP & MAC OSX access with a single point for authentication
I'm new to Samba and Unix in general. I've been given the task of setting
up Samba on a Solaris 7 server. I been told that both Windows XP and Mac
systems need to access several folders on this system. In addition, this
set up has to work with our NIS server (dns1) to authenticate the users for
security.
I was able to set up Samba with NIS support but only the Windows clients can

Connecting Solaris 10 + samba + Mac OS X Open Directory
Hi all,
I've recently run into a situation whereby I need samba to tackle a
task. It is complicated by multi-vendor infrastructure. I am hoping
that someone here has the knowledge and experience to say:
"been there, done that...here is how..."
To give some background to the architecture (slightly exotic)...

Issue with reshare shares
Hi there,
we have a customer with some old Windows 98 stuff. The
network has been migrated to a 2008 domain and Windows 98 won't
authenticate (and thus can not access shares, also all computer names
(DC's / fileservers) are longer than 8 characters).
Figured I would
mount the shares on the fileservers on a linux box (ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64
bit server) and then export them again through

no frills samba server
Hi,
Since the fast track to replacing my NT domain controller didn't work
out too well I'm starting with the basics. Right now I have the
drafting office setup going from chapter two of the Samba 3 By Example
book. My smb.conf is as follows:
#########################3###################

workgroup = MIDEARTH
security = SHARE
[Plans]
path = /plans

Resharing a Remotely Mounted CIFS share
Greetings.
I am attempting to configure a SAMBA server to act as a "gateway" server
and am having some issues. Any assistance or clarification would be
greatly appreciated.
Our company has need to connect to remote CIFS server, running SAMBA,
hosted by a remote company. To do this, I am attempting to mount the
remote share to a local server and then reshare this back out to our

Assistance request
Hi Samba team,
first I want to appologize for this spam, you probably get tons of such messages per day.
However I am desparate and sick of digging into newsgroups, mailing lists and everything else ;))
Since 1 year I am trying to find a way to make samba receive winpopup messages from Windows 2000, or Xp, using
the "net send" command.

samba will not work for me... :/
I've had this problem since FreeBSD 4.3. This problem continues with my
FreeBSD 4.4 machine.
I can't connect from my Win98se and Win2kPro machines to my FreeBSD 4.4 Samba
server.
I've tried it all... but still no luck.
I've run smbd and nmbd manually with the "-D" parameter. I can connect
internally from my FreeBSD 4.4 box using "./smbclient

Mounting a Samba Share in /etc/fstab
Hey all,
As most of you know, I've been having problems (hopefully solved by now, won't know until friend is
able to reshare his box) with SAMBA over the internet.
On my local area network, I am using SAMBA for a one way connection just fine. my question is as
follows.
Can I make an fstab entry so I can mount the XP share whenever I boot? The reason I ask is because

Apache config: Two different rails apps using same domain name (mod_rewrite issue)
The problem I''m solving here is that I have two different Rails applicatons
that uses the same domain name. One handles the www (e.g. www.mycoolapp.com)
and is used as the main site, and the other handles the user subdomains
(e.g.. someuser.mycoolapp.com). The DNS stuff and the Apache virtual hosts
were all set up, the two rails apps are in place in the file system, and the

Samba File Locking Problem
Hi,
I have a situation in the office where I temporarily need to provide
additional clients access to a share on a Windows 2000 Professional box.
2000 Pro seems to only allow 5 clients to connect to a share and there is no
faclity to allow more as best I can tell. Upgrading isn't really an option
and as I said, this is a temporary need.
I have a linux box as a gateway so I decided to map the

SAMBA client extremely slow over WAN
Hello,
When copying files using the RedHat Samba client over Network we
experience file copy times 5 times slower than we experience with other
SAMBA clients.
As a test file we are using a 45MB file. Using a HPUX samba client to a
windows file server it takes approximately 1 minute to copy this file.
Using a windows SAMBA client also takes about 1 minute to copy the
file.
Using the RHEL

Network logon & slow connection issues
Hi:
I am running Samba 2.5 because SCO's skunkware version of 2.6 just would not
run. I am running SCO OpenServer 5.04, which I wish there was a smbclient so
that I could perform more adequate server side testing.
I am currently faced with three issues which I have not found solutions too.
1. I the log.user name I have found the users do connect to the server but

course), i get a NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER error.

problem with unix extensions on Adaptec SNAP Server (Redhat 8)
I've recently purchased an Adaptec SNAP server to serve as a central file
server for a 2500 machine, 7000 user network. My goal is for this server
to serve as a backend file store to a number of other servers that the
client machines will communicate with. In particular, I would like to have
my current file server (which runs samba 3.0.10 in kernel 2.6.10-gentoo-r6)

New installation does not show on network
Ever since installing Fedora 7, samba stopped showing the machine on the
network. I can connect to it by entering the machine name (\\lazarus),
but it will not show itself from a Windows machine. I tried a command
suggested to test if it was listening and this is what I got;
$ smbclient -L localhost -U%

SMBMOUNT: process freezes on file copy
Thanks Urban. I am now convinced that this problem is being caused by the
reshare of the Novell drive. I have ended up copying the data (around 6Gb,
400,000 files) to the Windows 2000 server from the Novell server. I then
mounted the Windows 2000 share using smbmount. Copying this has been a
dream with no sign of any problems at all.
I think we will have to put this down to the MS Gateway
