samba NT4 domain trusting samba AD domain: ephimeral
hi all,
thanks to Rowland advice, I checked the net trustdom way to establish
trust between domains.
In my setup I have a samba-4.7.4 NT4 domain named TRUSTING which needs
to have a trusting (outgoing)[1] with samba-4.7.4 AD domain named ATENEOAD.
As far as I know it is very similar to:

Preloading WINS registrations
I have a couple of Samba boxes, one of which is dedicated to WINS. The other I dole out anti-virus stuff to 3,500 odd PCs from.
This second one will disappear from the WINS server from time to time which is a bit of a pain. I use nmblookup -R -U <wins_ip> <2nd_box_ip> to test for it. All clients are configured as "P" nodes so WINS is a bit essential. To bring it back I

WINS.DAT getting wrong address automatically?
Hi,
I've got a Samba domain running across two networks. One of the Samba servers
has a HiPPI NIC on it, used only for point-to-point connections, and
unreachable from everywhere on both networks.
The problem is that for some reason, nmbd is registering the HiPPI NIC's
address instead of the Ethernet (correct) address for the machine.
Anyone ever seen something like this before? I'm

regpatch problem ?
Hi,
I'm trying to use the samba4 registry tools for server-side editing of
HKCU (ntuser.dat) on a Debian Etch samba 3 server.
I was very pleased to see that backporting Debian experimental's samba4
package was very easy, so now I have a backported-to-Etch registry-tools
package to start experiments :
- regshell -F ntuser.dat works, one can manually add, remove, modify
keys and

Static Entries wins.dat/browse.dat
I've recently setup an iSCSI portal on my network and have taken some
servers offline. However, due to the requirements of certain software
programs I need to use UNC paths. I was able to fix this issue by
adding CNAME into my DNS. I'm still finding that certain programs
still require to view the browse list to find the appropriate server.
Since CNAME doesn't link to the

DHCP and WINS.... wins.dat is out of date
My wins.dat seems to be rather out of date. I'm running Samba 2.2.2 as a wins server with dhcp. When the client address changes, Samba doesn't seem to update wins. The clients are Win2k & WinXP. In the manual page, it suggests that I shouldn't change the max/min ttl parameters. Can I hook dhcp to samba somehow?
Rebooting the out of date clients triggered Samba to update

Wins, browsing, browse.dat and wins.dat
Hi,
I have troubles understanding wins and network browsing functionnality.
I have a samba server(pdc) on a different subnet than my clients.
The server smb.conf has wins support = Yes, the client are configured to
use the wins server.
In the wins.dat, i can see all the computers.
In the browse.dat i have only computers/servers that are in the same subnet.
When i try to browse the network

WINS + multiple subnets + multiple domains
Hello
After seeking solutions and fixes to the problem I'm experiencing and not
finding any, I turn here. If there is no solution, please don't be shy to
pointing out that too :-)
The problem:
I have multiple IP-networks with windows clients in them. Some are 95, most
are 98, some 2000 and xps. Most networks have at least one NT4.0 server in
them, some have more, some have none.

Retrieving the context
Dear list,
I have a general problem that I really don't know how to solve efficiently
in R. Lets say we have a sequence of things, like for instance a string of
words, that is stored in a file. We need all the words in a table format, so
therefore we create an id for the word, that links the word to a file and
the position of the word within the file, like:
#In this case a very short file

Computer disappears from workgroup - why?
I am using a simple workgroup-based Windows network with 4-6 computers. One
is a Debian Etch server with Samba 3.0.24-6. The server is the WINS server
for the network. I can browse the network fine and access shares on the
server at all times. Trouble is, ONE machine (XP Pro SP3) that runs pretty
much 24/7 spontaneously disappears from the list after a while. Let's call
it //XFILES. This

WINS Server TIme out registering IP
I am seeing the following messages logged every 20 min on a Centos 5.5
Samba 3.5.7 (SerNet RPMs) PDC.
wins server = yes is set and the 172.17.1.50 address is the address of
the PDC. From a Windows client perspective the the domain is
functioning as expected. There is a Samba BDC and mulitple Win2008 R2
member servers in the domain.
Are they anything to be concerned about?

[RESOLUTION..?] wins support = yes time server = yes
from another post today about a different topic, the reply said that nmd has
some issue restarting with a service smb restart in redhat 7.3..which seems
to answer my question as to why I have to do it twice...

WINS setup / browsing
I just successfully upgraded a server from v 2.2.8 to v3.0.7. When I
execute smbstatus or swat it correctly shows v 3.0.7. When I browse thru
network neighborhood it still shows v 2.2.8. I stopped samba, and removed
/usr/local/samba/var/locks/browse.dat & wins.dat. Then restarted samba. It
still reports v2.2.8 thru network neighborhood. In viewing browse.dat it
shows 2.2.8. Where is this

no wins registering?
I have multiple samba servers. smb1 is my master, smb2 is a slave.
My master has this:
name resolve order=wins hosts bcast
# wins server=127.0.0.1
wins support=yes
The Slave has this:
name resolve order=wins hosts bcast
# wins server=<IP OF Master>
wins support=no
After 24 hours the Master forgets who the slave is. If I restart the
slave he notifies the master who

nmbd, wins.dat reload ?
Hello!
Is there any way to
a) force nmbd write wins.dat
b) load wins database from wins.dat without nmbd restart?
Thank you!
