ldapsam, smbpasswd and posixAccount
Hi,
I have a setup with Samba (3.4) as PDC with ldapsam as backend. LDAP is
managed by Samba, no external helper scripts. When I add a new user with
"smbpasswd -a foo" it works fine, user is created and the openldap is
populated with samba and posix attributes.
Now, when I add a new user to the directory by running ldapadd against
a ldif file which contains only posix related

Using People for Machine accounts
Using Samba 3.0.2pre1 under SuSE 8.2.
I have seen several references now in this list noting that the browse
for machine accounts in Samba 3 is broken, and 'People' should be used
instead. I changed smb.conf to 'ldp machine suffix = ou=People' and I
changed smbldap_conf.pm to '$computersou=(People). I then cleared ldap,
ran smbldap-populate.pl, and changed the uid of

Openldap samba 3.0.5 net group add does not work
When I run net add groupmap rid=512 ntgroup="Domain Admins"

The error isn't very specific and the log doesn't show any error. I look in
the log (log level -1 in slapd.conf) and I can tell it is able to search. I
can post the syslog if you need it. I think their is an error in my

Creation of Domain- and PDC-SID in samba
hi
just a question to understand
we have a NT PDC and i successfully transfered it's data to samba 3.0
because we're cautious i let the NT PDC "online" (domain=evan) and
introduced samba with the same date in a new domain (domain=testevan)
for testing purposes
to get rid of conflicts i had to change the SID of the samba server,
because my knowledge tells me: "a sid

Samba Upgrade to 3.0.25b leads to core dumps with winbind and ldap idmap
I have recently upgraded a Samba server running on a Red Hat Enterprise 4 (32 bit) server. The version of samba upgraded to is 3.0.25b. I noticed that a new index had to be added to my ldap (openldap) server for the sambaSID attribute. So I added the index line to slapd.conf as follows:
Index sambaSID eq,sub
Afterwards I ran slapindex to recreate the indices in the openldap database.

Subject: Samba-2.2.8a & LDAP - Can't join Domain - SID mapping error
Hi everyone,
I am at my wits end and am hoping one of you can help me out.
I am getting the following error when attempting to join Windows XP/2000 machine to the domain:

login failed
Hello
i've samba 3.022 with a ldap 2.2.26. I've no pb to join domain with my
win2000, but when I reboot I'm reject (bad username ...).
I find in debug that the first param sent by the client was the login
and I think it must be the machines name.
Any idee ?

I wood prefer to use LDAP as my backend.
I have read tons of how-to SAMBA + LDAP, but non of the seams to work
for my, is there someone that maybe can see what I have done rung in
my config.?

Cannot make Windows join Samba domain
Hi,
I'm having an issue trying to make a Windows machine sambaserveroin a Samba domain. Samba is running with LDAP backend (OpenLDAP). When I try to join the domain, Windows says that the machine account does not exist. The machine account, however, is successfully created in the LDAP directory after the join fails. When I try to join again, Windows says that the account already exists.
