Urgent information (legal stuff) about the future of SAMBA
I am sending you this email because of an incident which threatens the very existance of Samba. Earlier today, the bnetd project was shut down to the DMCA. Since bnetd is alot like Samba, I figured you would be interested. Bnetd is a server that pretends to be a battle.net server (starcraft multiplayer). This server was created by reverse engineering the communcations protocol, just like Samba

Hello, I was just so happy to have Diablo2 LoD in a 800x600 window under
KDE 2.2.1 runing. It's quite smoth and even BNet connection on our privat
Linux BNETD Server works. So just everything works fine (aint got sound,
but I don't care), except for the whole keyboard, no input possibel. What's
wrong with my Wine instalation? The debug output tells me about a language

Standalone server providing authenticated services to AD clients?
I'm trying to set up Samba on an older Solaris 9 box using the bundled
Samba. I don't want to have to build Samba from scratch. All I need to
be able to do is provide authenticate file share access to clients
that are in our AD domain.
E.g., my laptop is an AD domain client, I am logged in as myself,
AD-DOM\myusername. Samba is running on the server with user level
security. myusername

Impact of inheriting controllers on models
I have some protected methods and authentication/acl filters I want to
inherit down through my controllers.
So I have controllers which inherit like this:

Impact of the Debian OpenSSL vulnerability
A severe vulnerability was found in the random number generator (RNG)
of the Debian OpenSSL package, starting with version 0.9.8c-1 (and
similar packages in derived distributions such as Ubuntu). While this
bug is not present in the OpenSSL packages provided by CentOS, it may
still affect CentOS users.
The bug barred the OpenSSL random number generator from gaining enough
entropy required for

RE: [PATCH][TOOLS] Reducing impact of domainsave/restore/dump on Dom0
Take 2... this version only adds code to discard the cache on Linux and
uses the right name for the fadvise call.
It''s a bit ugly - I basically just put #ifdef __linux__ around the
fadvise calls - but I don''t have the ability to develop something
suitable for Solaris...

Article on impact of NFS share management to ZFS boot times
We just had an article published on SDN about how different changes to the ways shares are handled has an impact to the boot up time for large numbers of ZFS filesystems.
For me, one of the neat things about it was it being a topic at several points on OpenSolaris discussion boards.
You can view the article on ''The Management of NFS Performance With Solaris ZFS'' over at

Is there any performance impact in setting up every gluster client as a NFS server?
Hi,
We have around 60 hosts and each of them acts as glusterFs clients as well
as server.
To achieve HA, my underatanding is that we can use Ganesha NFS alone (and
not Kernel NFS) and for above 3.10 versions, the HA packages are not ready
yet.
So, I'm thinking if I can avoid HA by making each client acts as server for
itself.
i.e.,the server name specified while mounting is localhost.
So,

Is there any performance impact in setting up every gluster client as a NFS server?
Hi,
What I meant was that every host acts as nfs server for itself alone. A is
mounted on A, B is mounted on B etc. So, if a host is crashed or storage of
the host is not available, other hosts won't be affected.
And how bad can be the performance overhead in having multiple nfs servers?
Regards,
Jeevan.

MAX_SESSIONS Increase Impact
I'm hoping this is the the right location for this question....
I've been working with some developers that are desiring to use the
multiplexing capabilities of OpenSSH, but have hit the default limit of
10. I've seen some discussions of increasing this default limit
previously and have noticed that some of the Linux distros have
increased the number to 64; I'm curious of the

Crashes and Performance Impact with 1.1.27
Hi there
I build wine 1.1.27 from source as usual and noticed Fear2 doesnt run anymore, it freeze right at the start with a black screen and i'm unable to get any console output since it freeze the whole x session I have to ctrl+alt+backspace to kill the x server. I am on Fedora 11 x86_64, Nvidia Geforce 9800GTX+, 185.18.31 Driver. Moved back to 1.1.26 and it worked again.
Any suggestions ?

impact of qualify=yes
Anyone have any information on the performance impact of using
qualify=yes for hundreds (500ish) of SIP UAs?
I have seen tidbits on qualifyspreading=yes, but not enough to
understand what it does. I assume lessens the peak load of qualify sip
options queries?
Thx!

Cisco 7960 dual ethernet port - bandwidth impact
FYI for anyone using the dual ethernet ports on a Cisco 7960.
I'm using a Cisco 7960 connected to an HP2524 10/100 switch, which has
an asterisk box connected directly to it. No VLANs defined or in use.
Measured bandwidth:
PC -> HP Switch -> Asterisk : actual throughput measured at 94.1 mbps.
PC -> 7960 -> HP Switch -> Asterisk : actual measured at 93.02 mbps.

Differences between blind or attended transfer and impact on CDR entries
Hello,
Sorry for a bit of a newbie post but we all had to start somewhere right ..
I'm wondering if someone can briefly explain the difference between blind and attended transfers and why they would generate two very different CDR entries.? From my own research, it seems that transfers are both ultimately a SIP REFER and thus seeing two different CDR entries just confuses me further.

virsh edit has no impact on domain
Hi,
I am using "virsh edit" to edit a domain. After edit it says
>> Domain ubuntu18.04 XML configuration edited.
However, reopening the domain with "virsh edit" shows old file.
The domain is also turned off.
