WindowsXP SP2 shuts down while trying to log into samba 3.0.6 domain
Hello, I have few Windows2000 Pro samba domain members which logon to the domain without any obstacles. Recently I decided to upgrade all client workstations to WindowsXP SP2. Fresh copy of WindowsXP joined domain properly but when I tried to logon as usual it accepted password and shut down after a while (logs of samba confirm that workstation logged on). Windows claims that winlogon caused

Novell Client forces password change, Ver. 3.5.2. and LDAP
Dear all, we have a strange behavior using Samba (Verson 3.5.2) as PDC with Open LDAP (Version 2.1.22) as backend and an old Novell-Client (version: 4.91 SP5) running on WinXP (SP3 and higher). The old PDC (Version 3.0.28) was running over years with the same LDAP-Server as backend and with Novell installed on the clients. We decided to migrate to Samba 3.5.2 , updated all the LDAP schemas

Upgrade 3.0.5 to 3.0.6 causes client hang on file access
Hi, Chris Mills opened already a very similar thread: http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2004-September/091704.html The reason why I open a new thread is, because it happened at upgrading from 3.0.5 to 3.0.6. For the time being I downgraded to keep the system working but I have to find another solution soon ... It happend to me at two computer, both using Debian, one 2.4.18 the other

Samba on ReiserFS
Dear Listmembers, I try to work with samba (newest rpm for SuSE, 3.0.1.pre2, but that does not matter, the effect was there in 2.2.7 and 2.2.8a too) on an sufficient armed system (the system does not matter either, I have tried it on different machines) using ReiserFS (version 3.6.4-12). When accessing one share from one machine (i.e. copying two or more files at a time to or from the share)

Windows XP - Explorer crashes when I try to open a file on a Samba share
I am having problems with my samba clients. I am using Windows XP SP1 to try to connect to a Samba server I have running on my Gentoo Linux server. Browsing a share works decently well, but I ocassionally have network problems (the same timeout issue I explain below). The real problem comes, though, when I try to access a file (either trying to open it or just right-clicking on it). As soon as I

Samba ver 2.2.2 - socket read - WinXP
Jan. 21, 2004 Dear All, I have enjoyed some success with Samba version 2.2.2. I am using it to serve Micro$ Access to end users. It works very well on a prior version of Unix, with older Win2k clients. Now, with my current version, and Win XP Pro, I have problems. Periodically, they get abruptly kicked out. I get syslog errors which look like: kforce-adm-# tail syslog Jan 7 16:29:09

Annoying error (read_socket_data: recv failure for 4)
Hello all, I'm having troubles with a samba 2.2.2 server (on debian). Some clients are having problems connecting, and are filling the logs with messages like those below. This isn't the first time I've had this problem, nor is it the first site. This is a win98 box I'm having troubles with now - it fails trying to log onto the domain... although I'm fairly sure it affects

Can't connect from Windows 2000
I recently upgraded my Linux install (Debian potato to woody) and now Samba is no longer playing nice with Windows 2000. I can use smbclient on the samba machine to connect to itself, so at least that's working. The error from Windows is: "The semaphore timeout period has expired.". I deleted the smb.log file at one point in an effort to reset it. I figured it'd be created

The account is not authorized to log in from this station. This is even though I have in smb.conf: hosts allow = 192.168.1. Which should allow the whole subnet. Thanks! XP Failure to Join Domain
I?m using SAMBA 3.0.4-6.3E as a PDC. I have Win98, WinNT4 and Win2000 clients successfully joined to the domain. But I can?t get an XP box to join. The XP machine can ?see? shares on the SAMBA PDC but strangely does not show up in network neighbourhood. You can find it if you search for it. The PDC is just using smbpasswd, no LDAP The machine add line in my smb.conf is as follows..... add

Hi, This is more of a FYI than a request for help. thanks. 8) I upgraded our 3.0.x servers to 3.0.9 due to bugs which we were running across.
