Can't browse network using nautilus
Hi, I'n using the nautilus file browser in a GNOME desktop environment on a FC2 system. If I enter smb:/// in the location bar in nautilus I can see the network but whenever I try to look at the shares on a computer I get a message saying that I do not have permissions to view the contents. I looked in the archives and found a thread on a similar problem. This thread mentioned that

Trouble connecting to Samba shares from other Linux boxes
Hey list, I'm having some problems with a few of my Fedora Core 2 boxes. 1 of the systems is set up as a Samba Server as the main fileserver. I have some Windows XP machines connecting to it just fine, nice and fast. However, I also have some FC2 systems that connect to it using the smbfs filesystem, and while they work initially after booting up, any amount of browsing through Nautilus or

Samba-to-Samba connection problems
Hey list, I'm still having some issues getting 2 Fedora machines running Samba 3.0.7 to stay connected for any length of time. My setup looks like this: 1 of the systems is set up as a Samba Server as the main fileserver. I have some Windows XP machines connecting to it just fine, nice and fast. However, I also have some FC2 systems that connect to it using the smbfs filesystem, and while

smbclient's tar_re_search broken?
Hi all, My old and stable backup script don't work anymore. It's based on smbclient's tar command using crX parameters for creating archive, excluding files based on basic regular expressions. The box is running Fedora core 2, fully updated: kernel-2.6.8-1.521 samba-common-3.0.7-2.FC2 samba-client-3.0.7-2.FC2 The error is easily reproducible: smbclient //ntpdc/share -A credfile \ -c

Joining XP clients to a Samba PDC
Greetings, I've been pulling my hair out on this problem for several days and I'm not really any closer to a solution. I hope someone out there can help me. I'm trying to set up a samba PDC on a Fedora Core 2 box using an LDAP backend (on another server). The base install of everything is working fine. At the unix level LDAP connectivity is configured and working properly for

Missing folders when accessing via Samba ?
Hi, I have a linux server (FC2) with samba 3.0.7 (3.0.7-2.FC2). Everything was fine but recently I found the some folders that I used to access from windows clients are missing. They exist if I log on the samba server (using ssh) and ls. but does not apper in my windows machine. Other folders in the same share do appear. All folders (that appear and don't appear) have the same

Samba and Active Directory
Hi, I'm trying to join my Linux file server to an AD domain. I've looked at several different documents describing how to do this, but I still am not able to get everything to work correctly. I am able to join my domain, but I cannot use smbclient to connect to another file server in the domain, nor can I connect to the samba server from my desktop PC. My kerberos tickets seem to be in

Kernel Oplocks and FC2
Hi All, I am running Samba version 3.0.7-2.FC2. I've been noticing the following messages in /var/log/messages: Sep 22 09:35:47 www kernel: lease broken - owner pid = 6024 Sep 22 09:36:32 www kernel: lease broken - owner pid = 25134 I've been told that if I place "kernel oplocks = false" in my smb.conf file, I won't see this message any more. However, if I do this, does

Winbind could not convert sid to gid...
Hi, I'm using the Samba RPM's from Fedora Core 2 RPM's (3.0.7-2.FC2) as an authentication backend for a Squid Proxy server. It all seems to work fine, until I (try to)authenticate against a domain-group.. I started trying with 3.0.6-2.FC2, which also didn't work... This is a pretty clean/fresh installation of Fedora Core 2, for whatever that's worth... I've succeeded

upgraded old smb system to new release with a few errors
I moved an old smb system (version 2) over to a completely new system with version 3.0.7 running on FC2. I just copied the config files over and then ran swat and adjusted any problems that I found. Then save the swat config and started the smb server. Gosh be Good! It worked just fine. But... I stared noticing entries like these in the logs:

smb_lookup: find //pagefile.sys failed
When I mount a particular Windows 2000 share, I get this error hundreds of times in /var/log/messages. All I have to do is mount the share, I don't have to go into the directory or do anything with the share. I actually don't know for sure that it's only for this one share. Why does this happen? I'm on Fedora Core 2, using the samba-3.0.7-2.FC2 RPM that comes with it. Raul

Missing rpms for samba-ldap script
I was pointed to: http://web.vcs.u52.k12.me.us/linux/smbldap/ As an effective script to get samba/ldap configured for a PDC. It is written for Fedora 3 core or the K12LTSP distro. of course I discovered this after installing the Centos distro. Now it is decision time: stay with Centos and get this working or move the the K12 distro. This setup is for the small business network in my basement

Samba + ldap pdc and SUS
Hi all, I'm here again ith a non-strictly samba related problem, but I hope someone in the list has already faced and perhaps solved it... I've got a 60 clients network (most Windows 200 and XP) organized in a domain. The pdc and bdc run on Fedora 2 + samba 3.0.7-2.FC2 + openldap-2.1.29-1, and everything works fine. To limit the use of internet bandwidth I installed a Windows 2003

Samba with NFS
We're having a problem with a combination of NFS and Samba that I'm hoping someone here has seen before and knows the solution for. In this case, the Samba server is an NFS client, and the Samba share is actually an NFS mount to an NFS server. The problem we see is when a Windows client tries to open a file on the Samba share, the application hangs, and eventually comes back saying
