smbfs failure mounting DAVE Macintosh share
Hi, I tried to make my Linux box smbmount a remote share originating from a Macintosh running the commercial package DAVE 2.5. The Linux box is a RedHat 6.0 with a 2.2.14 kernel (with smbfs inserted as a module) and samba-2.0.3; the iMac ran MacOS9. The directory to be shared, \\akemi\archivio, contained two files, aaa and bbb. Here's what happened: [root@sonal ~]# smbmount

What's Happening
Found these messages in /var/log/dmesg on a Redhat 7.1 machine running Samba 2.2.2 accessing a Win 2000 share. Actually, there are a bunch of tasks accessing the same share, complete with file locking, etc. Any docs on what that error code means? ...Thanks, ...Kenneth smb_get_length: recv error = 113 smb_trans2_request: result=-113, setting invalid smb_file_write: syndex/csafe.log validation

error -13 with smbopen
Using linux on both server and client. I can run smbmount and all seems ok. But, when I try to use kfm to browse a share, I get the following messages thousands of times in /var/log/messages and things more or less hang up. I have to telinit 1 to get control of my client machine. smb_open: aph5/.directory open failed, result=-13 smb_readpage_sync: aph5/.directory open failed, error=-13 Any

Character translation problem
Hi all, I have a file that samba does not know how to access. The file is located on a w2k server. The samba box is a member of the w2k domain (ADS). When I try to access the file via nfs I get "no such file or directory". In the logs I get the following error: ug 29 03:38:04 bfs kernel: smb_open: District of Columbia/lexis_com(SM) Get a Document - by Citation - D_C_ Code ^U

Samba 2.2.4 - files have disappeared!
Hello all. I have two linux machines, Red Hat 7.1 with kernel 2.4.9-34 (Red Hat stock), with Samba 2.2.4 installed. Both of these machines usa Samba to mount several shares from a common Windows 2000 server. These machines also run Courier IMAP. For those not familiar with email systems, Courier uses the "Maildir" method of email storage and retrieval; each message is stored as a

Samba as a client to Windows2000 + special characters on filenames
Greetings! I have been troubleshooting this for over a week, and what follows is a rather long, detailed description. The short description to the problem I have been dealing with is: I can't access files on a windows2000 server from a Linux client when their filenames have some specific special characters such as "?" I can list them, but not copy. The setup: server: Windows 2000

observations about delays
I've tried two imap clients (mahogany and Mozilla) and they both have strange delays and weird failures. As a reminder, I am using mbox format mailboxes on the server and client side filtering of messages from the inbox. In both cases when the client fetches messages from the inbox and starts redistributing them, CPU utilization on the imap server goes to around 40 percent for Mozilla

Adding a "description" meta-tag to the R homepage (bump)
Hello dear R-devel, I am allowing myself to bump this issue again (half a year later) - I think that the www.r-project.org website could benefit from having a description meta-tag. Could anyone please let me know who to contact regarding this? With much respect, Tal On Sat, Apr 2, 2011 at 4:24 PM, Tal Galili <tal.galili@gmail.com> wrote: > Hello Peter, > > Here is what google

win 2k3 / XP Pro to Samba 3.0.1 open failed, result=-512
I'm having some confusing problems transferring approximately 16GB, in about 541,000 individual files. What is happening is that I am starting with a blank destination directory on a gentoo system running samba 3.0.1, and pulling from one of two windows systems. The problems come in that each time I use rsync (version 2.5.7) over samba to keep the data on the gentoo system's side in sync

smbfs linux 2.4.24; connection loss causes total machine hang
I'm running smbfs on a Debian box with kernel 2.4.24. I would give you more information (such as my samba tools versions) if I could get into the box, but it's hung right now due to this bug. I'm mounting a filesystem from my desktop Windows box (which is right next to it; there's a D-Link in the way, though) and passing large amounts of data to it (backups). If the connection

Is there another way of doing the bindings so that the Windows share doesn't run on TCP/IP but will still work with SAMBA? If so, where in the docs should I be looking, and if not - maybe this should be something discussed by the SAMBA dev people.. Regards, Marc. Linux SMB Mount utils patch
Hi, I'm sure that you are all aware that the mount utilities that ship with samba are designed to compile and run only with Linux 2.1 series development kernels. I'll _try_ keep this short and sweet while doing my best to explain what I have done, since I have a tendancy to ramble on. I have two boxes, one Linux with libc5, and another with Linux and Glibc2 (aka libc6). The Samba

how to rewrite this without a loop ?
Dear Rexperts, First of all let me say that R is a wonderful and useful piece of software. The only thing is that sometimes it takes me a long time to find out how something can be done, especially when aiming to write compact (and efficient) code. For instance, I have the following function (very rudimentary) which takes a (very specific) data frame as input and for certain subsets
