samba-3.0.10-1.4E (RHEL4): logon failures with 2003 server pdc
I recently set up a new RHEL4 server with samba-3.0.10 in a Windows 2003 server PDC domain. I can log on as one user from different workstations on to the new samba server. With several other users, I get this error: Oct 18 16:41:34 samba-server smbd[2502]: krb5_rd_req(CIFS/samba-server@MY.DOM) failed: Wrong principal in request Oct 18 16:41:34 samba-server smbd[2502]: [2005/10/18 16:41:34,

Samba 3.4, Windows 7, Roaming profiles and Folder redirection
Hello, I'm quite new to Samba administration and I've inherited a working samba setup with roaming profiles however the login and logout times for users has been growing and I'm starting to think it's time do something about it. I'm thinking redirect some folders to a samba share on the network will speed up the login and logout times. Our setup has 25 Windows 7 workstations

domain login problem
Hi, I have a Red Hat AS3 PDC server running Samba 3.0.0. I have Linus workstations and Windows 2000 workstations. Some not all of my Windows 2000 workstations will not let any user login to the domain. Says username or password is incorrect. If you create a local user account on the workstation and login as that user you can get to all shares and there are no problems. I also have a problem with

Samba 3, Windows 7 and printer drivers
Hi, With Samba 3 and Windows XP, it used to be possible to install he printer drivers on the Samba server, so when an XP workstation joined the domain, it would find the printer drivers automatically. Does such a functionality exists with Windows 7? 64 bits? 32 bits? Thanks in advance, Olivier --

Samba as PDC with WinXP Clients -> headache!!
Hi. my last post was about upscale configuration for my WinXP clients, because I believed I had it working, but ... Next day I booted the client and .... it wouldnt let me log onto the domain again. :-( I am using Samba 2.2.8a with Ldap backend which works great in workgroup mode. Joining the domain is very easy and works well, but then after rebooting I get: "Es kann keine

Getting Samba to ask for Username and Password
Can somebody tell me how to get samba to ask me for a username and password when I click on my Samba server in Windows XP Explorer? When I click on another computer on the network (Workstation A) from a workstation (Workstation B) where I'm NOT logged in with a username:password that Workstation A recognizes as having an account, I get a dialog box asking me for a username and password.

Optimizing Samba
Hello All, I have put together a Samba PDC for a mixed Bag of Windows Client workstations. We have a few Windwos 9x, some Win NT 4.0 and a handful of Windows 2000 workstations. The server is operating fine as a PDC for all workstations, all the permissions are properly set and things are running mostly smoothly. There are a few things that are somewhat slow moving on the network.

Changing Domain Passwords
Greetings Can anyone tell me if this is possible? Given a network of Linux based servers with a Linux based PDC (Centos 3.9) running samba 3.0.26a and NIS with Windows-XP clients, we want to enforce password changing policies for the Windows Domain. We want to have users able to change their own passwords at required but with some control over minimum complexity, re-use etc. We want them to

Setting up ADS in Samba with MIT kerberos mapping/backend
So, I'm trying to figure out how to get Samba to work in this way. Specifically, I have a 2003 R2 AD in 2003 functional level. All user accounts are mapped to the same user account name @ our MIT Kerberos server. Users do not know their AD password. Can Samba authenticate users with their Kerberos realm passwords, and know to use the same user name so the UIDs match for both platforms +

primary group gets set to 100 on Samba AD server after a while
I had similar (ish) issues. Are you using winbindd and rfc2307 UIDs/GIDs? I had to implement both of the above on my DC to resolve this. (Neither of which I /wanted/ to do.. but since switching over and running 'net cache flush' etc., the problem hasn't reoccurred) On 26 April 2016 at 09:14, Gerben Roest <g.roest at grepit.nl> wrote: > Hi, > > using Samba 4.4.2, on

run a script with "administrator" credentials?
I saw Active Directory a bit today and was impressed with the ease one can manage many Windows workstations with that. Especially I liked the software installation (too bad it can install MSI packages only) and the ability to run custom scripts on the workstations (when the boot up etc.). Is it possible to run a custom script for a given machine when it boots up (that is already joined to

Samba/Windows XP and SSH tunnelling
Hi, I've been trying to get SSH tunnelling working with Samba. I'm using a Windows XP and a RedHat 8.0 box. I've closely followed the instructions from the HOWTO manual in order to set this up to no avail. I think the problem comes from the fact that my lmhosts file has no effect on the NetBIOS name cache when I preload it with the command 'nbtstat -R'. I checked the

I get the same error if I try this as the w2k administrator or user account. If i try searching for

Problem with [homes] under 3.0.23x
Hello, I found another strange problem while migrating from 3.0.22 to 3.0.23x (with 'x' eq 'd' now): I can't access my [homes]-share anymore - if i try, the samba-server prompts me for a password. What *is* working is accessing the same directory as [<username>]... E.g.: \\Sambaserver\matthias works whereas \\Sambaserver\homes works *not* Unfortunaely it
