HowTo: Samba with ADS security in CentOS 5
Hello!
I have recently gone through the hassle of trying to get a CentOS 5 server
(no gui) with Samba to use ADS for security. After several days of googling
and trying different howtos I finally got it working, I now want to write a
howto for CentOS 5, Samba 3.0 and Windows Server 2003 SP2.
Basically it's a combination of

Samba 3.0.7, WinXP Pro SP2 printing issues with netbiosnames.
Hi
We're currently experiencing some problems that wasn't a problem in 3.0.4.
Since SP2 was installed printers get connected \\<ipaddress>\<printer-name>
instead of \\<netbios-name>\<printer-name>. It's more common on SP2
machines but it happens on non-SP2 machines.
Although these issues are not consistent.
Which some windows applications seems to have a

Roaming profiles not roamin :(
Hello folks!
I have a "small" problem configuring samba-3.0.9 (on Debian, if that
matters). My samba server acts like primary domain controller, and my
users can log to the domain. But, their profiles are not roaming (yes,
those users have roaming profile selected on every workstation, that's
not it). That is - they are not created on samba machine, but instead,
on every workstation

Warning for SP2 net share point on Samba 3.0.7
Hi All,
Just a word of caution for those who are intending to roll out XP SP2
via a network share. I've encoutered an issue with SP2 and Debian Samba
3.07 when more than 5 simultaneous connections are in place. I'd set-up
and tested a rollout using the samba share, but come roll-out day most
of the 20 odd machines were still copying files some 48 hours after. No
specific errors were

Unable to connect to smb shares from second machine in workgroup
I have a pretty simply home LAN with a Linux box (Mandrake 9.1) and 2 XP
boxes. The workgroup is named UNIVERSE and the machines are earth
(Linux), voyager (XP) and starbase (XP). (smb.conf has security=user).
Voyager can browse over to \\earth\share no problem. Recently I
connected starbase to my LAN using a wireless router. When on starbase I
cannot browse to \\earth\share. When I do so I

Calling R_PreserveObject from embedded R
Hello. This is my first post to the list, so first I'd like to thank
everybody for making and mantaining such a great product as R.
I'm writting a native binding to R from Dolphin Smalltalk. I've followed up
the examples of the documentation showing how to run R embedded, and I got
it partially working. However, I have a problem with the reference handling
of the R objects.

LDAP password/group problems when upgrading to Samba 3.0.7 (previously 3.0.4)
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I just upgraded samba to samba-3.0.7-1.3E, and am now having trouble
with my groups. I used to be able to log into a windows machine and
request a share that I didn't have access to. It would then ask me
for a username/password to connect to the share (as it should).
I would then add myself (or whatever user) to the proper LDAP group
entry that

I'm a Samba newbie also so please bear with me.
I installed Samba 2.x under SuSE 9.0. It worked well for my simple setup
(home network with one Linux fileserver, one WindowsXP desktop, and one
WindowsXP laptop all connected via a 10/100 ethernet). When I upgraded
to SuSE 9.1, I was automatically upgraded to Samba 3.x. This still
worked with my original settings but something would go

We're running Fedora Core and Samba-3.0.8-0.pre1.3 and we're authenticating
our Windows XP users against Active Directory running on Windows 2003.
Everything works fine!
But now we're trying to secure and harden our WinXP machines and now when
any user logged into a secured WinXP they get the errormessage "The account

Compilation problem
Hello,
I apologize in advance for this question being a little off the main thrust
of this list. I am not sure what the problem is and this seems like the
most logical place to ask.
Here is my problem. I have been compiling daily snapshots of R (both
patched and devel) for some time now on my work machine. This machine is a
3-year old IBM Intellistation with 1Gbyte of memory running Windows
