Making Red Hat 3 Authenticate against AD Domain
I have a Red Hat 3 AS server I am trying to set Samba 3 up on. I want to use the homes function of Samba and I want user's to authenticate against my AD domain. I am having a problem making the server a member server of my domain. I tried using the smbpasswd command and got the error about trying net join for this action. Also, is there anything else I have to do to get my users to

Strange behavior from shared namespaces and INBOX, probably a bug
Hi, we have experienced some erratic behavior from Dovecot 2.0.15 if a user's INBOX is shared. Some folders of user1, including the INBOX, have been shared using these IMAP commands: . login user1 XXXXXX . setacl INBOX user2 lrwstiekx . setacl box-a user2 lrwstiekx Now if we use telnet to log in as user2 and select "shared/user1", it will contain the same mails as

strange memory issues with CentOS 6.2 on VPS
Hi all, today we've encountered quite strange issues with memory allocation on one of our VPS running CentOS 6.2. So far I've been unable to determine what's causing it - hopefully someone here will know what's up. The VPS is a "small" machine - just 512MB of RAM, 1 CPU, running 6.2. with current kernel (2.6.32-220.4.2.el6.x86_64, but I've tried the

strange sip behavior (looping back to my own extension vm)
Hello- I am currently testing with a carrier that seems to be having some trouble around toll-free (800 number) access. While a problem, its the resulting behavior that I'm finding disconcerting. When I dial an 800#, I get the following response: -- Executing Macro("SIP/2700-e10b", "carrier-out|18005558355|70|r") in new stack -- Executing

Really wacky problem with internal extensions.
We have an Asterisk server acting as a hosted PBX system for many clients, and we're going through an upgrade to Asterisk 1.6 by moving our most important (and complicated) clients one at a time. But we're having a problem with one customer that I really can't explain. I can place calls directly to one phone at the customer's location (they also have an IVR that asks for an

Strange file Behavior
Samba Masters: I recently upgraded all of our Samba servers to 2.0.6. Previously, we had several versions running all the way from 1.9.15p8 up to the current release. Since the upgrade, there has been a strange problem reading text files on one of the shares. Here's the situation. The server is a Sun box with Solaris 2.5.1. A program that runs on this machine writes a text file into a

strange behavior with "dos filetime resolution = yes"
Hello, i see a strange behavior with timestamps of files on a samba share (4.2.6 on SLES 12 SP1 and 4.1.8 on Ubuntu 14.04) with "dos filetime resolution = yes": On older samba versions, windows properties dialogue correctly shows only even seconds, but (at least) the two indicated versions show sometimes even and sometimes odd seconds if the file has on the server filesystem a

CentOS 6.0 chkconfig strange behavior
Hi, I'm noticing some strangeness with chkconfig on CentOS 6.0 and was looking for a bit of advice. It appears that chkconfig is re sequencing or re ordering the start priority of various services when turning on a service using chkconfig. Example is the network service. Under normal circumstances network is set to start at S10. However when I add something like snmpd and invoke chkconfig

Strange behavior with file/directory permissions.
I am experiencing some odd behavior with a SAMBA server running on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 system. Users are authenticating against a Windows domain, and then connecting to their home directory shares, defined as: [homes] comment = Home Directories hide unreadable = Yes valid users = %S read only = No create mask = 0664 directory mask = 0775

authentication problem with WinXP clients
Hello, we have problem with user authentication when accessing shared folders at standalone Samba server (security=share) from Windows XP. There is no problem accessing public folders ("guest ok=yes" and "guest only=yes"). But when trying to access non-public folders ("guest ok=no" with valid users definition), username / password dialog appears, but username
