Roaming Profiles:Samba PDC:WinXP:User must be local admin
I'm having a problem with Roaming profiles in Windows XP with Samba as PDC. I've googled and trolled the mailing lists and read the Samba documentation. Problem: User logs onto domain from WinXP client and profile is downloaded (you can tell because it takes a long time and lights on hub are lit up). However, unless that user is in the admin group locally, all/some of the profile

Security warning with XP clients and 3.0.2a PDC
Hi all, I hope I don't make a prat of myself with my first posting... I've got a 'niggle' with Windows XP Pro (SP1a) clients and 3.0.2a PDC (Slackware 9.1, 2.4.22). Joing a domain, logging on etc is working perfectly but I'm getting a 'File Download' security warning when I try and open an executable that's stored on the server. If I agree to open the file it

[Fwd: Re: Windows XP client - intermittent 'network name cannot befound' loading profile]
Doesn't really resolve the issue, but in my case the problem went away when using physical machines rather than virtual machines. The environments are identical - RH ES 3.0 with Windows XP sp1a client (no hotfixes or GPO settings applied). Thanks for everyone's help. Re: Win XP 'Network path was not found' Error when connecting to Samba s
Sorry, for the resend, but I found out another piece of information that may be helpful. I did a Ethereal check and then tried accessing the Samba Serve from my XP box. The Linux box got 3 NBNS Name queries on the Share Sambaserve and the response from the linux box was a ICMP saying Destination unreachable. Then 3 more NBNS broadcasts for the name query which Linux did not respond to. Thank

Win XP 'Network path was not found' Error when connecting to Samba share
I am running a network with 2 XP boxes and 1 RH8.0 box running Samba 2.2.8a (bin pkg). I have also tried Samba 2.2.5 (the included distro ver.) and Samba 3 (not in depth though). I have added my WinXP username/passwd to smbpasswd and to the Linux User list. I've tried encrypt passwords and have even tried playing with the 'gpedit.msc' in Win XP to turn off encryption to 3rd party

Fw: Win XP, Samba PDC, Profile Question
Hi, PLease, please help. I am running Rh 6.2, Samba 2.2.4 as a PDC and I have been upgrding my clients to XP over the last week (company holidays! - except for me!). I can join to the Domain using Registry Edit (Sign or Seal) and I am not using roaming profiles to start with so I have blanked out the logon path and logon home in my smb.conf. My problem is relating to the user profiles. When

Windows Vista roaming profiles "access denied" forced local profile (samba PDC), but Windows XP OK
Hello, I'm having an "Access denied" issue using roaming profiles for Windows Vista Ultimate RTM (patched to current). The actual login is successful, the full name is set properly and the password is handled correctly, however only a temporary profile is created. The interesting thing is that all else being the same, I do not encounter the same issue for Windows XP roaming

Samba PDC + 2K/XP
Hey, I am just wondering how you enforce security (such as permissions) on local workstations while running Samba 2.2.x as a PDC with 2K/XP workstations? As some of us don't have or want 2000 Server to enforce things like policies etc... how do you all do it. E.g. If we want 'Administrator' to have access to all start menu etc... yet standard users to have only programs, no settings

Windows XP Profile-Samba 3
Hi, We are setting up a samba PDC with rhcl 5.I made some restrictions in XP box using GPEDIT like restricting the access to control panel, desktop properties, registry and etc. ,then i copied the DEFAULT USER folder frm that XP box to netlogon share of samba server.(thought it would act as baseprofile for all users and this profile policy will be copied to all new users). But what ever the

Win XP profile problem...
I'm hoping someone may have run across this issue before. I have a client running a relatively recent version of Samba (the exact version number escapes me at the moment). Windows XP client machines running against samba as a PDC with roaming profiles active. They can log off just fine, and their profile gets successfully written to the server... likewise when they log back on to the

Samba, Samba PDC and slow XP if user not in admin group.
Like many I ran into the slow winXP client when attached to a samba server. Access times were extremely slow and windows explorer was almost unusable (especially if there were a large number of files in the directory). The XP users authenticated properly and rights were applied as expected via the samba configuration. Every thing worked properly... except really slow. I went through all the

XP local policy vs Samba pdbedit?
If I set up a room of Win XP Pro w/SP2 systems, hardened via local policy and gpedit.msc, and add them to a samba domain running from an unpatched, out-of-box install of RHEL 5.0, how will the local XP policies differ from any changes I make to pdbedit on the Samba side? Which takes priority/preference? Thanks. Scott

Windows XP cannot load roaming profile
Greetings to the samba community, I am trying to set up a small (12 workstations) Windows XP network served by an Ubuntu 6.06 samba PDC. I have domain logons working, but I am unable to properly set up roaming profiles. One of the users called "host" (which means "guest" in Czech) is able to login without any warnings. Other users (so far "administrator" and

WinXP Roaming Profiles - Samba 3.0b1 Problem
Hello, My company has decided to upgrade everyone from win98 to winXP. So, I've begun the process of setting up a test network to test samba with winXP before the XP rollout begins. I downloaded samba-3.0b1 a couple weeks ago, compiled it, and started configuring it. For the most part everything has been a breeze. I have a winXP SP1a machine on the test network that currently sees

Win NT 4 PDC & "domain admin users" directive
Hi - I'm trying to use "domain admin users" in my smb.conf to allow me to get a SAMBA server to notify NT clients logging in that certain users (me) get Administrator rights on the workstation.... Can someone clarify as to whether this feature works with 2.0.7 and if so how do I go about getting it to work. my hair is getting a bit thin... TIA - dan. -- Telezygology Manager,

samba3x PDC and Win XP
I am at my wits end on this one. Ever since I upgraded to samba3x (present version 3.5.10-0.110.el5_8) in preparation for adding a Win 7 client, my WinXP client can no longer find their roaming profiles nor can they assign their home shares to a drive at login. Logins and authentication work just fine and I can see the home and profile shares from the Win XP client after login. My smb.conf

mandatory profiles, group policies, Samba3 PDC winxp Clients
Hello all, I've been trying to figure out what the best way of doing the group policy thing is. We are running samba 3 on slackware 9 with winxp clients. We are a school. i'm unclear on how much AD is actually supported... OU GPO all that. so i decided to go the "administrative template" way (used to be .pol files) I'm thinking of having the students run off of a
