pdbedit not working as documented
I have am hitting a wall with pdbedit, as shown below. Any workarounds would be greatly appreciated. I am encountering the inability to change any users (profile) SID on Samba 3.x for Linux and BSD, which causes the accounts to no longer recognize their local Samba 2 profiles once they join Samba 3 domain. If I add a new user and pdbedit -a user -U SID it ignores the -U. The old profiles appear

You think Microsoft's mailing lists and forums are better? Just wait (and wait, and and ...). Oh, that's right, you can call Microsft for help ,,, and shell out $295 per. password change error
Hi, We migrated from redhat 7.1 to redhat 3 ES and ran into one road block after the other. Most of them were solved except this last one. Users cannot change their passwords and then I read somewhere that samba 3.0 and MS KB828471 or 741 don't want to be friends. Then I upgraded my samba to be samba 3.0.7 (which i guess is the latest).... Then I un-installed the KBB patch being accused.

smb show /tmp when you use UNC
Have a perplexing problem here... If you UNC to the IP the shares show up fine, if you UNC to the DNS name when I go into the shares they seem to be pointed to /tmp. Also the printer isn't visible when you use UNC to DNS name. Since I'm using server based security is it possible it can't indentify me? Problems joining W2K Client to Samba 2.2.8 on RH9
Hi, i have some problems using my RedHat 9 Samba Server. I created Shares for my W2K Windows Clients. All Clients can access the Shares, so no problem there. Now i tried to join my W2K machines to the domain and get an error: "Canot join domain, the credentials supplied conflict with an existing set". I read in some newsgroups that "net use * /d" helps but it doesn't

'add/change/delete share command'(s) in smb.conf
Hello. I need to allow one of my users to add & delete shares on my Samba server through the 'server manager' applet on his client . This same user also writes some files to the same Samba server. I don't want the files that he writes to be owned/written by 'root' . The way I understand the 'add share command' currently, this is not possible. Am I missing

Samba 3.3.7 Member server not using Ldap
Greetings List, I've got 2 identical Samba Member servers on my domain,of which the global section of the smb.conf is identical. My config file is below: The difference? One's a 64 bit OS the other is 32 (I don't think this is the issue). The 32 bit system runs flawlessly, the 64 bit OS does not and when I execute pdbedit -L it does not return the ldap database

Can Samba “security = user” be used for guest share without a Windows login prompt?
Hello, I hope this is not a dumb question, but I just need some clarification. I am trying to set up an Ubuntu Samba share for a lab with Windows computers (Vista and XP). I have two shares that are supposed to require authentication and one that is supposed to a public share with no login. I understand from reading the smb.conf manual that "security = user" makes Windows authenticate
