Corrupted userid in mail folders
I have a Mandrake 10.0 Official server running Samba3, Shorewall, Squid 2.5,
Postfix and Courier-IMAP.
Samba uses winbind to authenticate mail and proxy users against a windows
2000 ADS server.
I get corruption happening in the user's home directories and elsewhere.
The directory ownership changes all the time. One moment a dir belongs to

upgraded to 3.0.2 -> funkyness in machine accounts
My old technique was to
1) remove all machine accounts from ldap
2) reimage all machines
3) create all the machine accounts with smbldap-adduser -w
4) switch all machines to domain mode
that does not work anymore...
the machine accounts exist in ldap
but i get this internally contradictory info in the logs

Groups Under "Domain" Security
We are running Redhat 9, 2.4.20-30.9 kernel, Samba 3.0.0 and Winbind
3.0.0. Security is set to "Domain" and we are trying to set up shares
which will be available to valid NT 4.0 users and groups.
Winbind appears to be working, and you can use the commands "getent group"
and "getend passwd" to see that it is communicating with the NT domain for
user and group

migrating from freebsd to linux - wbinfo mismatch
We're beginning a migration from FreeBSD w/ Samba Version 3.0.28a to
Gentoo Linux w/ Samba Version 3.0.33. Both the BSD system and the Linux
system are joined to the domain, using the same krb5.conf file and
nearly identical global sections of the smb.conf file.
What I've found is the UID and GID are not aligned with each other. For
example:

2.2.2, XFS, ACL, PAM, user/group listing problems
Hello,
I am trying to setup Samba as a fileserver in a Win2k PDC environment. I
am using Samba-2.2.2 under linux kernel 2.4.14 patched for XFS. I am doing
this so that I can make use of ACLs.
winbind is setup and everything works as expected, ie `getent passwd` and
`getend group` return all the domain users and groups. Domain users can
create files and store their profiles and such.

wbinfo ok, but getent nothing
Hi there.
Feel like I'm getting nowhere.
Code:
FreeBSD samba 3.6.6 ; connected to a Windows 2008 R2 AD
wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g will properly show all the users and groups ;
but for some reasons, I can get getent with winbind to show any
users...
I've must have tried over 100 different configuration, read all the
tutorials I could find ; I never got it to work :(

Dom0 freeze on HVM DomU Windows reboot with VGA passthrough
Hi,
I''m doing VGA passthrough for an ATI (HD 6770) graphics card to
a DomU Windows. The passthrough itself is working. However, everytime
when I reboot the DomU Windows, the whole machine freezes.
I see no error messages from Dom0 kernel or the xen qemu log
(or perhaps I haven''t got the most verbose debugging turned on?).
Though from what I can tell, the the freeze happens

"hist" combines two lowest categories -- is there a workaround?
When preparing a series of histograms I found that hist was combining
the two lowest categories or bins, 1 and 2. Specifying breaks, as
illustrated below, resulted in the correct histogram:
values <- sample(10,500,replace=TRUE)
hist(values)
hist(values,breaks = 0:10)
Apparently, the number of values strictly less than 1 is shown in the
first bin (and since none is less than 1,

Understanding NT Groups and UNIX Permissions with Samba Shares
Hello, I am having some problems understanding a few concepts in Samba while
trying to use samba-common-3.0.0-14.3E, samba-client-3.0.0-14.3E and
samba-3.0.0-14.3E on RHE 3.0.
Basically, I have security = domain. My system is running winbind, I've
added the winbind calls to nsswitch.conf. I can get my wbinfo -u and wbinfo
-g commands to show me what I want. That all seems happy.
I have a

Zap channels stuck in 'Rsrvd' state
I have two Adtran 750's connecting our analog phones to asterisk. On
occasion, I get a channel that gets "stuck" off hook. 'show channels'
shows:
Zap/27-1 (longdistance s 1 ) Rsrvd (None) (None)
And will just stay like that until the phone is manually picked up and
hung up again (or asterisk is stopped/started). I guess this is a
function of an unclean hangup (being

32-bit Solaris domUs should run on any 3.0.2-3 or later dom0. The majority of our testing has been on CentOS dom0s.

Samba as domain member to another samba PDC
Hello,
we have a somewhat unusual setup:
- currently, Windows 2000 workstations in a NT4-Style domain with a
samba 3 server as PDC. User account data for both UNIX and Samba is kept
in LDAP.
- now, several workstations should be migrated to Ubuntu, using the same
LDAP directory (and NFS homes) for User account data. Users need to be
able to share files with windows workstations, using samba.

We have experianced a strang behavior with QuarkXPress files.
These files can be opened/modified/saved by user a, user b can
open/modify the file but saving is not possible.
With all other applications open/modify/save files is possible.
We use: SuSE8.1, Samba 2.2.5, reiserfs.
Directories/files are set 2770

Proposal for Chain-Loadable LDLINUX.SYS
A proposal for changing the LDLINUX.SYS layout and flow:
The current situation ("old style"):
ldlinux.bin's physical layout:
- VBR
- 512 bytes of padding (never lands in memory)
- ldlinux.sys, which is:
- Sect1 code (494 bytes, leaving enough room for at least one
extent, as planned)
- Extent pointer patch space (1920 bytes)
- The rest of the code
