Per-alias shares?
I'm trying to figure out if there's any way to have multiple virtual
servers on the same machine, each server having different shares.
Barring running multiple smbd processes, I don't see a way. Is there one?
Thanks!

Samba question
1. Does anyone know what may be happening here? When I try to map a
drive from a PC, I get the following error: "The account is not
authorized to log in from this station.". I can map the drive just fine
from my PC. Does anyone know what may be going on here? Any help would
be greatly appreciated.
2. Also, whenever I use SWAT, it takes a long time for the

Problems with Samba 3.0.5 only seeing 1360 files on a share to a Windows 2000
Hi,
I have a share:
[share]
path = /appl/md/data
valid users = +asd
write list = +asd
read only = No
create mask = 0664
directory mask = 0775
And it has directories that have 3000 files in them, but when I look

upgraded old smb system to new release with a few errors
I moved an old smb system (version 2) over to a completely new system
with version 3.0.7 running on FC2. I just copied the config files over
and then ran swat and adjusted any problems that I found. Then save the
swat config and started the smb server. Gosh be Good! It worked just fine.
But...
I stared noticing entries like these in the logs:

mapping winbind users to nis uids and gids
Hello!
I've got users that access linux file server from Win stations using
Samba
and winbind authentication but also have AIX based workstations
accessing
the same server using nis authentication. They have the same username
registered in NIS domain and in Windows domain.
Is it possible to map winbind users (usually using uid & gid > 10000) to
nis
users, so user john

Hello, i'm new in the list so hi everybody!
I think that this question could be asked many times, is possible make
Samba act as ADS server? Maybe with the Samba-TNG fork or with some CVS
version?
Thanks.

smbfs mounts cause hangs in kde/gnome
I'm using debian Sarge, Samba 3.0.6-3, Kernel 2.6.8
I use smbmount //server/share mymountpt -oguest which connects fine, but it
all dies (hangs) if I try to look in that mounted directory with konqueror in
kde OR nautillus in gnome.
In dmesg of the server computer I get:
smb_proc_readdir_long: error=-512, breaking
and the same but with error -13
smb_add_request ... Timed Out!

sendfile failed
Mates,
I'm trying to learn a little more. I have 3.0.7 running on Mandrake 7.2.
I could see all the shares, but couldn't access the files "sendfile failed".
I set use sendfile = No and all is well. I have a separate system Suse 9.0
pro with use sendfile = yes and I have no problems. What is the
difference???

Logon Script to go down one folder?
Hi Folks,
Got Samba 3.0.7,1 running on FreeBSD--yippee!
One thing that I noticed is that when a Windows
user clicks on his folder named something like
'username', there are a bunch of files there
that he might 'accidently' delete:
.cshrc
.login
.login_conf
.mail_aliases
.mailrc
.profile
.rhosts
.shrc
Is there some way to automatically log on the
user to folder just below

Domain Trust Logins
Config:
Samba 3 trusts a win2003 domain.
XP workstations joined to Samba PDC domain.
When a user in the 2003 domain tries to login using an XP workstation
and choosing the 2003 domain in the "log onto" box this fails unless the
user also has a Linux user account.
Is there a way around this? Is this just the way it works?
Thanks

Permission Issue
Im having a problem with permissions/ownership changing. I have a hard
drive which is mounted in /mnt/hda3. That's where I keep my home folders,
netlogon etc. Samba works great for a while, then the permissions change on
the mount point and I have to go in and change them back. What would cause
this to happen?

automatically authenticate domain logged-on users in apache with AD/NTDOM?
Hi!
I don't use MS products at all, so I have very little knowledge with them,
but I believe Microsoft has as protocol where Internet Explorer can
automatically authenticate against an IIS server, and given that the server
and client are on the same NT domain, and the client user is logged in to
that domain, the user is automatically logged in without the need to give
away the password
