Filename problem (filenames containing slashes aka. \ and /)
I'm currently in the process of creating a fileserver so some mac guys at the company I work at can save files as a backup medium. (long story short i'm creating a fileserver running samba 3 with 1TB of storage) However, a lot of the files that they want backed up contain characters that samba refuses to accept (when I try transferring a file to the samba share with say the filename as

Is it possible to utilise an Apple Xserve RAID as an array for use with ZFS with RAID-Z in Solaris? I''ve seen various mentions of ''zfs'' and ''xserve

Ruby IO on brand new xserve with Leopard Server
Hi I''m using princexml pdf generation in one of our apps and bump into this very weird problem. On our ubuntu box and local machines (MacBook Pro) pdfs are generated flawlessly. On the production xserve (running the rails app in production mode on a mongrel cluster), a 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, strange things start happening. The following sections give back nil values in

Asterisk/Zaptel on Mac G5 or Xserve
I am considering a G5/XServe for a conferencing system. I need to put a TDM card in the machine for timing. Is anyone out there using Asterisk on Mac with zaptel drivers? I am looking at using Linux for the OS. If so what is your experience? Have a great day! Geoff

Duplicate entry in macOS "Network" when using Samba 4.9.1 and avahi 0.7
Hi. I configured a simple samba server. As I need this server to be available in macOS ?Network? list, I configured avahi. When I start smb.service and avahi-daemon.service I get two results in the ?Network? section. When I don?t use avahi I get no entry. Why are there two entries and which best practice can I use to have only one entry? Thanks! Steven ##################################### cat

I'm trying to install Centos 6.4 64 bit on this Xserve: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/xserve/specs/xserve-intel-xeon-2.8-eight-core-specs.html I got a bootloader from: http://blog.christophersmart.com/2009/07/23/linux-on-an-apple-xserve-efi-only-machine/ as none of the official Centos releases (full, minimal, network 64 bit) boot on this machine. postscript() filenames with forward slashes cause abort
My newly installed R-2.1.0 apparently doesn't like forward slashes in filenames: > R.version.string [1] "R version 2.1.0, 2005-04-18" > plotfile <- "\home\mean_monthly_stl.eps" > postscript(plotfile) > plotfile <- "/home/mean_monthly_stl.eps" > postscript(plotfile) *** glibc detected *** double free or corruption (!prev): 0x098e7180 *** Abort

Mac OS X canonically decomposed UTF-16 filenames
Hi. I'd like to find some way for Samba to convert the filenames created by Macintosh OS X into something windows can use. According to their docs: http://developer.apple.com/techpubs/macosx/Essentials/SystemOverview/FileSystem/chapter_9_section_13.html filenames are stored as canonically decomposed Unicode 2.1 in UTF-16 format (a sequence of 16-bit codes) Samba running on a

Netatalk and Samba???
Hi all, Looking for a "best practices" way to share out to both Mac and PC easily. I know Windoze enables the same sharepoint for both the mac and pc shares and there don't seem to be any real "problems" by doing that. However I work in an environment which forces us to utilize Win9x through XP as well as OS 9 through 10.x on the mac side. I need a user friendly way to

security = domain and Mac OS X
I've set up Samba on Mac OS X to do pass through authentication to the nt domain in AD several times now. No big deal, it usually just works. Now, however, it doesn't appear to be working. Note the relevant part of the transaction below (loglevel 4). Steps to replicate: a) Add pre-Win2K account with AD Users and computers b) sudo smbpasswd -j EXAMPLE -r WINSERVER -U

open failed (Too many open files in system)
I am running Samba 3.0.5 on OS X 10.3.8 Server. It's the stock Samba supplied by Apple with no modifications. I am running a variety of shares on the system to around 50 PC clients. I came into the office this morning with a dead Xserve... could not login, could not ping or ssh into the system. Users in the office could not even browse the network. When they tried to browse the

Hi. I'm testing samba 4.2.0 vfs_fruit on Fedora Server 22-alpha. I confirmed that ResourceFork and FinderInfo are compatible with Netatalk 3.1.7. However, EAs are incompatible. The character ":" in EA name is wrong. The EAs are not seen from clients. smb.conf: [test2] path = /export/test2 writable = yes vfs objects = catia fruit streams_xattr fruit:locking =

Question on hardware for site
For a medium-sized website, does one machine for database server (either mysql or postgres) and another for the web server (lighttpd) sound ok? How much traffic could I expect to handle? (I know it depends on the application, but some rough estimates would be nice) Joe
