Daily changetrustpw breaks authentication
Samba 3.0.21b The Samba docs indicate [0] we should be running changetrustpw [1] at some point (cron.daily) to update a machines trust account. However, I've seen multiple instances with 2 seperate AD environments where this breaks our ability to enumerate/authenticate with the domain. In both instances, we see something similar to the following in the winbind logs: (ntlm_auth):

How do I use machine password for groupmember list?
I have successfully set up squid with ntlm_auth as per the Squid FAQ http://www.squid-cache.org/Doc/FAQ/FAQ-23.html#ss23.5 using a Win 2003 AD for NTLM2 authentication. The winbindd and nmbd servers are 3.0.20b, installed from Suse SLES 9 SP3. There is a requirement to manage web surfing by groups, and a cron job needs to obtain a list of members of groups. net rap -S AD groupmember list -U

Problems with 'ntlm_auth --require-membership-of' using Samba 3.0.6
Hi there, I'm trying to configure Squid to use a windows domain for authentication, and all goes well until I add the "--require-membership-of" option on ntlm_auth. I need to restrict access based on group membership, however ntlm_auth does not seem to be behaving correctly. I'm using Samba 3.0.6 on Debian and I'm using a Windows 2000 (SP4) Domain Controller. I

Winbind Issues
Hi all, Been having issues trying to get winbind working properly. Basically I need windows Domain controller features such as forcing bad password attempts and group policy etc and use samba as the FileStore. I can kinit nps, I can join the samba machine to the AD (shows up on the windows box too) But when I run wbinfo -u I get ; [root@dev1 bin]# ./wbinfo -u Error looking up domain users

Authenticating off a Windows 2003 ADS DC with Samba/Winbind
[originally posted to fedora-users] I'm having difficulty getting samba/winbind to authenticate of a W2K3 box. I've searched the list archives and although there are some similar problems, none have seemed to help resolve this one. Here's the network configuration: - Windows 2003 Server gx270-rmaniar [192.168.0.100] - Fedora Core 3 gx280rmaniarFC3 [192.168.0.5] FYI: A Windows XP box

checking trust secret failed for interdomain trust
Hi samba members, I've searched through google, the archives and RTFM but I can't figure this out. I've got a setup of two different offices with both their own samba PDC, wins, etc. Via OpenVPN i've set up an interdomain trust between the two domains (for now one way, but this will become two ways). One domain is called PSW with bluemoon as PDC, the other PSWINDWG with redmoon as

I'm having trouble with the "wbinfo" command (winbind service) at the client, as you can see below. Can anybody help me? Thanks!!! =Problem============================== Samba Server: samba-3.0.10-1.fc2 Samba Client: Version 3.0.0-14.3E

winbind trust account password management
I'm running Samba v4.4.4 as a domain member server in security=domain mode. Our 3 domain controllers are Server 2012r2. Every 3-4 days, I see log messages from winbind saying "winbind_samlogon_retry_loop: sam_logon returned ACCESS_DENIED". Sometimes this corresponds to a trust password change, but not always. Today, new connections to Samba were failing with the error

2003 AD and winbind
Ok here's the setup: Windows 2003 Active Directory Mandrake 10 running Samba 3 with winbind Clients: Win 95/98/me/nt4/2000/xp I'll worry about getting the win 9x working later, but what I write below happens with winXP and 2000 clients. When we setup a home directory in a user's AD properties 2 things happen. 1: a popup comes up from the AD saying that the user doesn't have

intermittent failure of ability to connect to samba share from win (NT/2k) client
First, my installation is samba 2.2.8 running as a daemon (not inetd) on Solaris 8 configured to use a WINS server and provide authentication via a PDC (same host as WINS server). I do have an lmhosts file in the samba /lib directory with the PDC/WINS server address in it. My globals section; [global] workgroup = WORKGROUP netbios name = SAMBASERVER security =

authentication against win2k3 server
I've been trying to setup Samba to authenticate users against accounts existing on a Windows 2003 Server without any backwards capability. Ideally, this needs to be done without any changes to the Windows 2003 Server. Users will not be logging into the Samba shares at all. This is merely for authentication. I'm running FreeBSD 4.10-Relase #4 with Samba 3.0.8. This is my smb.conf file:

Re: Intermittent "internal error: signal 11" with 3.0.24
Hi all Follow up to this post, as it didn't seem to go through the first time. We have a common problem occurring with our Samba setups. We run 3 (identical) processing environments that each contain a Samba host sharing approx .5TB of data to 6 Wintel machines. Normally these hosts operate fine, though we intermittently experience a Samba panic (intermittent = every 2-3 days) as per below.

Canon multifunction printers / samba 3.0.2a / AIX 5.2ML2
Hello, I have problems setting up a canon multifunction ir7200. When I print the windows test page, I have something like "smiley" "arrow" "arow" "smiley" "arrow" name_of_the_samba_spool "smileys" driver.dll etc, etc, etc, on a single line. Did somebody used such a multifunction with Samba ? Below is a (long) description of what I did. I

NT_STATUS_INTERNAL_ERROR and cannot join windows 7 samba4-ad-dc fresh install, get NT_STATUS_INTERNAL_ERROR
How strange that is, with the old server that does not happen, but with this new server... I thought that as I only copied the /var/lib/samba to the new server, then samba with the samba provision command make something outside the /var/lib/samba (and smb.conf file) that I miss from the old server. ----- Mensaje original ----- De: "samba" <samba at lists.samba.org> Para:

Cannot make Windows join Samba domain
Hi, I'm having an issue trying to make a Windows machine sambaserveroin a Samba domain. Samba is running with LDAP backend (OpenLDAP). When I try to join the domain, Windows says that the machine account does not exist. The machine account, however, is successfully created in the LDAP directory after the join fails. When I try to join again, Windows says that the account already exists.
