linux bridging problem: how to emulate 2 separate interfaces on a single one?
Hi all.
I would need to use a single physical interface on a Linux box to manage
two different IP addresses (belonging to two separate logical subnets)
with two different MAC address. (I need to emulate te presence of two
separate physical interfaceses for a PC on the same LAN, at layer 2 and
layer 3).
Is it possible to use the linux ethernet bridging code and two tap
interfaces for this

Problems matching by mac address
Hey all,
I recently read on a prior post as well as the FAQ that
packets can be limited by mac address using the u32 filter. I attempted
this and, while all the commands went through with no errors, it is not
limiting at all. I''m attempting to limit all IP traffic to a specific
destination mac address (00:12:3f:05:43:7f). Here is a quick rundown of
the commands

roaming profiles moved to a new machine - big confusion
Hello samba dancers,
I'm Friedrich Strohmaier and new to this mailing list. More important:
I'm (very) new to PDCing Computers in a network, and I ran in big
troubles doing so.
Try to tell a long story in short: I'm a fairly experienced
administrator for linux systems, and was orderd to move a
serverinstallation (SuSE7.0, Samba2.2.x) to a new machine. The old
machine did stop

CTDB upgrade to SAMBA 4.8.3
Hi again,
First, i revert to a snapashot with samba 4.7.7 and upgraded it to

expected. Next i tried again upgrade to samba 4.8.3. But i got the same
error like an email before.
Yes i guess its a problem that "tesparm" cant read the registry. When im

ip address delete bug?
Hi,
it seems that "ip address delete" will delete all addresses of the same
class on an interface if it is ordered to only delete the first one:
# ip a f eth0
# ip a l eth0
3: eth0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast qlen 1000
link/ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx

# ip a a 192.168.c.d brd + dev eth0
# ip a d 192.168.a.b brd + dev

Samba 3 Solaris 9 and charset cp850
Hello,
After a migration from Samba 3.0.2a to Samba 3.0.21b on a Sun server Solaris

tesparm -v :

In the smb.conf we have :
unix charset = cp850

If we change these parameters or if we use their default value, the name

Samba 4 : File server
Hi !
I have installed a DC with samba-tool command and it works perfectly !
Control AD with the 2003 tools is very amazing, thanks for the job !
So, my next step is to install a file server as a member of the AD and
not as a DC
I read carfully this one :

Compiling samba :
* ./configure --with-ads --with-shared-modules=idmap_ad

I want server to share bandwith from eth0 evenly for users on eth1 and wlan0. How can i make it ? Is it possible ? As far as i know htb splits outgoing bandwith on one device only.

Setting an alias as the "default" IP address, or something similar?
Hello,
Ive had a poke around through various linux routing documents,
but haven''t found what I think is an elegant solution to a
routing issue I''m having with a hosting provider and RHEL ES 4 running
in a VMware VM.
Here''s a diagram of the situation :

winbind: authenticating UNIX user before Win Domain user
We have a samba 3.0.7 server on RHEL-3 (rain) joined as a domain
member (security = domain) to a win2k pdc (clouds) for the domain DOM.
We have several unix users and two Win-only users. The unix users
have matching AD accounts on the win2k, but the Win-only users do not
have unix accounts (and we want to keep it that way). So, it seemed
that winbind would be the best way to bridge the gap:

Samba 3.5 - user authentication issues
Hi.
I'm using CentOS 5 with samba3x packages (Samba 3.5.10) and Solaris 10
(Samba 3.5.8) for achieving AD integration. Samba hosts are added as
domain members.
Now, I've tried to add CentOS 6, which also uses 3.5.10, but have
encountered a problem -> users cannot authenticate for some reason.
Configurations are pretty much the same across the board, and they look
like this:

Woodpeckers Revisited
Just when I thought I couldn't be wrong, I was wrong. We have
woodpeckers that drill into the arial telephone cables, and water seeps
through the holes and partially grounds the tip and/or ring wires
causing hum. I thought the hum/buz on my lines was a telco problem.
The Qwest HQ noise team assures me that my lines are within spec. Sure
enough, when I listen on the test set the lines

inherit group on new files/directories
I have a share with folders belonging to diferent groups, with
restricted access depending on unix groups.
When a user creates a file inside one of this folders I want it created
with "directory group"; I think it should be possible using "inherit
acl" but it don't work; my share configuration is:

path = /home/samba/arees
valid users = @users

Best Hardphone (Subjective?)
After working with the Grandstream GXP 2000 series phones, I have
decided that I am quite unhappy with their problems, both voice quality,
volume, features and others. For their price now, there are plenty of
phones to choose from as well.
So subjectively what would be the best Hardphone for a small/medium
business with multiple line support, BLF, etc.
Are the Cisco 7960 the best of the
