Performance Issues
My apology for cross posting
We have a DELL6850 with 8Gbytes of memory, four 3.2Ghz CPU's , perc 4
raid controller, with fourteen 300Gbyte 10Krpm disk on a powervault
220s, And a powervault 124T LTO-3 tape systems on a separate
160Mbyte/sec adaptec SCSI card.
The disks are configured as two 2Tbyte raid 0 partitions using the perc

The problem is - reading from the disk, and

Adaptec 39320A woes
I'm having speed problems with the SCSI card we're using to do tape
backup. It seems to be functioning in 16 bit mode and the current
thinking is that perhaps it's using a legacy driver instead of the
correct one. The Adaptec site has a 'driver' for RHEL5 which I've
downloaded and tried to install but it seems to have a problem
installing on a CentOS-5 system.

SuperServer 6024H-82R and Centos 3.3
I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have any familiarity with this
server? It uses the Super X6DH8-G2 motherboard. Currently, we've added an
Adaptec 2120S Ultra320 RAID PCI Controller Card to get RAID 5 capability. The
installation bombs and from what I can tell it looks like we're getting SCSI
resets or the controller is going offline maybe. Any ideas would be greatly
appreciated.

HP ProLiant server for Asterisk
I'm looking at ordering a server from HP. I checked around on Google
and found in the Wiki that the ProLiant DL380 is supposed to be known
to work with *.
I'm going to get a price quote on the following setup:
HP ProLiant DL380 G4 Server w/ the following options:
Intel Xeon 3.20GHz/1MB
2GB REG PC2-3200 (2 X 1GB)

RAID configuration suggestion???
we have several DELL R900 with PERC 6/E adapter in it. R900 using Redhat Linux. Each R900 have two PERC 6/E adapter and at least two MD1000 connect to it.
Configuration 1:
PERC 6/E -- two MD1000
PERC 6/E -- empty
Configuration 2:
PERC 6/E -- MD1000
PERC 6/E -- MD1000
Normally first MD1000 for database and second MD1000 for nightly backup. My

way to replace DELL PERC 6/E card???
we have several R900 servers with PERC 6/E card in it. Recently it we getting some message on /var/log/message say change to "write back" and change back to "write through".
We figure out it is PERC 6/E card battery weak. My questions are:
1. some battery only use one year (some even shorter) and already this problem.
2. How come PERC 5/E does not have this issue?

Issue with Adaptec AIC79XX module and 2.6-xen kernel
I have an Adaptec 392320 Ultra320 SCSI adapter. I am running x86_64
SLES9 SP3. When I build x86_64 Xen with just the 2.6-xen kernel +
initrd, I am getting the following error on the module load.
But if I go back to building separate xenU and xen0 kernels without
initrd the device works without any issues. Any idea what is going wrong
here? Am I leaving something out of my initrd?
Here is the

Dell Perc snmp
I am trying to help a friend with a 2850 and snmp monitoring of a controller and its arrays.
I don't have any dells, do they have a rpm to make easy work of this for the Percs? They have
a monitoring solution already. Any hints I could pass on would be appreciated!
Thanks,

CentOS and Dell Support
I'm a fairly experienced RH and Fedora user and admin looking to try
CentOS for the first time. I have lots of experience with Dell servers
and I'd like to stick with them.
Although I'm sure it's not always strictly enforced, Dell claims that
it won't provide warranty hardware support on servers installed with
an un-Dell-supported OS (basically, anything other Windows, RH, and

RAID hard drive serial numbers?
smartctl, hdparm, and sdparm all are valuable tools to obtain hard drive
info. But, they don't seem to work, at least, on obtaining hard drive info
from drives on a Dell PERC controller. Instead, I'm given basic PERC
controller info, not drive info.
Is there a tool to let me get the hard drive make/model/serial numbers from a
hardware RAID setup?
Thanks.

megaraid/PERC
I've got two drives from a now-dead server, they were RAIDed, a mirror,
I'd assume. I need to see if there's anything on them I need to transfer
to the replacement, so I just shoved them into another Dell server, with a
PERC 5 controller - I think that's what the dead one had. I fired up
MegaRAID storage manager... but can't see any way to tell it to recreate
that RAID. Anyone

Really Get 96 Simul Calls?
Hey guys,
I'm looking for some realworld specs on somebodys machine that will work
with the Digium 4-port T1/PRI card and that will support 96 simultaneous
calls.
Dell is soon to release the PowerEdge 1850: 2U, Dual 3.6Ghz Xenon, 1Gb DDR2
RAM, Dual 36GB Ultra320 SCSI RAID, Hot swap Powersupply, one 64bit 133Mhz
PCI and one 64bit 100Mhz PCI for about $3,000.
Tack on a 4 port Digium card and

EXT2 vs. EXT3: mount w/sync or fdatasync
My application always needs to sync file data after writing. I don't want anything handing around in the kernel buffers. I am wondering what is the best method to accomplish this.
1. Do I use EXT2 and use fdatasync() or fsync()?
2. Do I use EXT2 and mount with the "sync" option?
3. Do I use EXT2 and use the O_DIRECT flag on open()?
4. Do I use EXT3 in full journaled mode,

Server Configuration for E1's
Dear Users,
I am fairly new to Digium and Asterisk. I wanted to know that if I use the
Digium product THREE Digium Wildcard TE412Ps? (Quad E1 Card) how many calls
can I handle simultaneously.
I want to use the cards with the following Configurations:
Intel? Xeon? 3.00GHz/800MHz, 2M Processor
1GB PC2-3200 DDR2 SDRAM (2x512MB + 2X1GB) memory
Integrated Dual Channel Ultra320 SCSI Adapter

Gluster performance / Dell Idrac enterprise conflict
I've tested about 12 different Dell servers. Ony a couple of them have
Idrac express and all the others have Idrac Enterprise. All the boxes with
Enterprise perform poorly and the couple that have express perform well. I
use the disks in raid mode on all of them. I've tried a few non-Dell boxes
and they all perform well even though some of them are very old. I've also

Disk Layout for New Storage Server
We are implementing a ZFS storage server (NAS) to replace a NetApp box. I have a Sun server with two dual Ultra320 PCIX cards connected to 4 shelves of 12 500GB disks each, yielding a total of 24TB of raw storage.
I''m kicking around the different ways to carve this space up, balancing storage space with data integrity. The layout that I have come to think is the best for me is to

Promise VTrak and CentOS 5
We're having a problem with Linux and/or the SCSI controller failing
to access an external RAID device. Components are:
SuperMicro 6025B-TR+V
CentOS 5.0 with yum update as of a week or two ago (kernel 2.6.18-8.1.8.el5)
Promise Vtrak M310p
Adaptec 29320 LPE -- aic79xx module
Sometimes this fails on the initial device probing (before the kernel
even begins to boot); sometimes the device is

Gluster performance / Dell Idrac enterprise conflict
I would be really supprised if the problem was related to Idrac.
The Idrac processor is a stand alone cpu with its own nic and runs
independent of the main CPU.
That being said it does have visibility into the whole system.
try using dmidecode to compare the systems and take a close look at the
raid controllers and what size and form of cache they have.

What is your gluster setup? Please share volume details where vms ate
stored. It could be that the slow host is having arbiter volume.
