Samba 4.0.9 winbind isn't passing through uid and gid numbers from Win 2003 R2
List, I've seen this problem in the list archives before, but the only problems I can easily find are using Samba 4 as the DC. In my case, I'm trying to add a Debian Wheezy member server (running the 4.0.9 packages from enterprise samba) into an existing AD domain where the DC's are running Windows Server 2003 R2. Every GID and UID coming back out of getent passwd is coming out as

winbind + ldap uid/gid consistency woes.
Hello all... Im trying to fix a idmap setup with winbind where the idmaps are stored in openldap. We have had this system working before, but it managed to break :-) All systems running Samba (3.0.13 on FC2) Problem: group id's and uid's (specificly uid's) are inconsistent between clients (our two test clients). Both machines are using idmap backend to talk to our ldap server and

Server: Samba 3.0.14a on Debian 3.1 stable with kernel 2.6.8.1 Client smbclient 3.0.7 on Mandrake 10.1 Problem: Share is mounted (by smbmount) with uid's and gid's values from Debian server. So user have no proper rights to catalogues in mounted shares on his local machine. Question: How to make uid and gid "mapping" from unix to unix? Exemplary: User john has uid=502 and

Retrieving UNIX UID/GID directly through Active Directory
Hi, there's a bug on bugzilla.samba.org that I'd like to comment on but it's not letting me. It's bug #242, titled "Retrieving UNIX UID/GID directly through Active Directory from schema extension" The person who posted the request talks about using AD4Unix, but I've installed Microsoft's Services for Unix and it made similar schema changes. Specifically, it

filexfer draft and uid / gid resolution ...
Sorry if this is not the best place to post this question but I'm not sure who else to ask. After reading through the filexfer draft I am having trouble understanding how a sftp client goes about resolving uid / gid to its text representation. Without handling this translation for the user, how do they know the difference between one uid / gid to the next without opening up a terminal to the

Username mapping.
Hello Everyone, I've got Samba 3.0.4 running under Solaris 8 with ADS support... Doing the authentication on the ADS server works, access to the defines shares work... What doesn't work is my username mapping. My Unix usernames are in the form of gaudej and our AD names are in the form of joseph.gaude. My username.map file has gaudej = joseph.gaude and when I have the [home] share loaded

Samba 4 two DCs no matching UID/GID

Just because it is import to unix based fileservers. Every uid and gid would be replicated and available on every DC. ID-mapping would not be neccessary when using rfc2307. Active Directory - Samba 3.0.4
Hello Everyone, I'm trying to get Samba 3.0.4 under Solaris 8 to join a Windows AD domain. I've compiled and configured all the required code.. and all works so far. I can do a kinit username@domain.name and get a ticket from the AD server... Samba's smbd and nmbd run, winbind complains about credentials..... Here's my issue. I don't have any control over the AD server. We

Samba 4 two DCs no matching UID/GID
I understood what have explained. All is fine so far. For my environment I need these ids to be stored to the directory (except for built-in groups) due to file services and today I found a way to write the ids to the directory. I only have Windows client so that other rfc2307 information's like shell etc will not really matter. But ids are important for setting right acls in the filesystem.

Understanding UID/GID mapping models.
I am using either DOMAIN or ADS for authentication and am trying to understand how UID/GID mapping rules are triggered. This[1] seems to suggest that if I do not specify the idmap uid/gid parameters in smb.conf, then authenticated usernames are mapped to "local" user accounts having the same name. If, however, I _do_ specify idmap uid/gid then one of the idmap_* allocator modules is

winbind not returning uid/gid
Really sorry to re-post but it looks like my thread has been buried and had no responses. I am using samba3.6 winbind to connect a RHEL5.8 linux box to a new Windows Server 2012 Active Directory which has Unix Identity Mapping installed. So I have all the uidNumber/gidNumber stuff in the windows schema. I am able to log in but I am not getting the right uid/gid. My AD uids start at around 800.

winbind can get uid and gid from sfu, but not homedir or loginshell
I have winbind v3.0.26a running on ubuntu server v7.10 (gutsy). I intend to get user & group info from MsActiveDirectory. However, when I type: getent passwd somerandomuser I get the uid and gid for the user, as recorded in the msad schema by virtue of sfu, but the homedir and loginshell that are returned are like what "winbind nss info = template" would return by default:

Duplicate winbind uid/gid
We've encountered the following problem on our Redhat 7.2/XFS box running samba 2.2.3 with winbind and acl support. This week, some local accounts were created on the samba box for the installation of djb's dnscache. In addition, some NT domain accounts were also created on the NT4 PDC. The samba box is configured to use the NT4 domain for authentication; none of the local accounts

winbind UID/GID mapping
I have read with great interest the chapter on IDMAP in the Samba 3 HOWTO. I was hoping to get some clarification from someone in the know as to the feasibility of using winbind in may setup. Here is what I want to do: 1. I would like to use winbind for a single sign on (SSO) type solution for integrating my linux clients with AD. The goal here is to eliminate local accounts from my linux

UID/GID Issues with Samba in ADS mode with Winbind
Hello I am seeing an issue where Winbind is not keeping it's UID/GID mappings. For how long does the mapping stay in effect? Is this mapping effected by reboots or server restarts? Will an AD user get the same UID/GID every time? Is there a way we can ensure that the UID/GIDs stick between login/logouts, etc. Thanks Regards, Komal

Winbind backend = ldap pull uid-number and gid-number ldap values ?
If I use sudo samba-tool user add <username> --uid-number=5000 and manually ad the gid-number via ldapadd to the Samba AD, does the winbind backend=ldap make use of those values? Or does it just use LDAP to retrieve the sAMAccountName and primaryGroupID ? Thanks Derek Derek Werthmuller Director of Technology Innovation and Services Center for Technology in Government
