samba-3.0.10-1.4E (RHEL4): logon failures with 2003 server pdc
I recently set up a new RHEL4 server with samba-3.0.10 in a Windows 2003
server PDC domain.
I can log on as one user from different workstations on to the new samba
server. With several other users, I get this error:

Winbind separator char causing make_server_info_from_pw failed errors
Hi all-
In migrating from 3.0.2 to 3.0.8 on a box that's an ADS domain member, I
had a relic line in smb.conf like this:
winbind separator char = -
With 3.0.2, users connecting wouldn't have a domain and separator char
component, so spnego kerberos replies to the 2003 domain controller
would be fine.
In 3.0.8, users connections would have the domain and separator char
for spnego

samba+AD problem
Hi,
I have a samba server as ADS domain membership with Kerberos
authentication against a Windows 2000 Server.
All run ok, all users can access into the share folders and roaming
profiles write your profile into the share profiles. But when I create a
new users in the Active Directory, these do not have access to the share
folders of the samba server. The logs show:

syncrepl in OpenLDAP 2.3.x (CentOS 5) and updating on a replica
Hi,
I have a setup with two CentOS 5 machines running OpenLDAP 2.3.x,
right now the primary uses slurpd to send the updates to the second
server, and the second server is using "updatedn" to allow updates
(from what I understand! I'm no OpenLDAP guru here.) Clients are using
pam_ldap and nss_ldap to get the users and authenticate them in LDAP.
Right now hosts query only the primary

Win SBS 2003 ADS and samba 3.0.8 authentication problem for 11th user
Hi,
I'm running samba 3.0.8 on SuSE 9.0 (heimdal 0.6-161) as a ADS member server
in a Windows SBS 2003 Domain (with 15 client access licences).
My problem is, that every morning, when people login the eleventh user
cannot connect to the samba shares.
After restarting nmb, smb and winbind, they can.
The log file for the client pc shows following error:

Samba PDC - Kerberised CIFS access
Hi All,
I have machine M1 hosting Samba PDC. It stores only user information.
I have machine M2 acting as KDC server.
I have machine M3 hosting CIFS shares and it joins into the domain hosted
by PDC M1.
I have machine M4 used as CIFS client.
On M2, I have added users and cifs/host service principals for M3. Also
added service principal in keytab file.
I have added all the user and service

krb5_kt_start_seq_get failed (Permission denied)
Try this :
#source: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/heimdal/+bug/1484262
Add in /etc/krb5.conf in [libdefaults]
ignore_k5login = true
Did it help?
If (as in my case) root is not allowed in the user homdirs it can validateon $HOME/.k5login
Above fixed it for me.
I only cant tell based on the config if this applies to you.
Its a simple thing to try.

LDAP replication
Hi all,
I know this is not ldap list, but I'm setting SAMBA LDAP BDC; I
think many of you have experience with this.
I setup a replica, I
haven't done the following
I followed

Two Permissions Issues: null session shares and group membership
I have Samba 3.0.25rc3 running on OpenSolaris build 67. Samba is integrated
with our Active Directory via Kerberos. I do not have nsswitch running with
winbind at this time.
Issue #1: Samba denies access to a share set up with "public = yes" when
accessed by an AD integrated user account.
The share is defined as follows:

3.0.23 and group behavior
Okay, first the admisssions:
I'll admit that I haven't been following the development as
closely as I probably should have. And I'll admit in this case I might
not be using Samba in the most efficient way possible. Also, I'm not
100% sure if I'm encountering a bug or just a seriously stupid
misconfiguration issue. And I'm still collecting data on exactly what
happened.

Winbindd chokes on W2K users in only one group
Hi there,
I've been trying to set up Samba 3.0.14a with Active Directory
integration on a network with an ordinary W2k Server PDC. I'm currently
having a problem which I'm convinced has nothing to do with my Windows
or Samba configuration.
The problem only occurs when trying to connect to the Samba server from
an authenticated domain account which is only a member of the default

FW: making BDC samba + ldap server
Is this Samba 3 or Samba 4?
If samba 3, which ldap server are you using>
What is the mail server? Does the mail server have its own LDAP server
included it or is also using an external LDAP server.
If you want replication between LDAP servers, they should be the same type
of LDAP server (e.g. OpenLDAP or Apache Directory Server or Oracle Directory
Server.) If you have one

access to * by dn="cn=repl,dc=felix,dc=local" write

krb5_kt_start_seq_get failed (Permission denied)
On a DOMAIN Linux member in log.wb_DOMAIN I can see the error message
"krb5_kt_start_seq_get failed (Permission denied)" during any attempt of
user authentication.
In result a user is authenticated successfully. But what does this message
mean?
My krb5.keytab has permissions 600 by default.
If I change its permissions to 644 the error message goes.

Promoting Samba BDC to PDC
Hi,
Our domain is setup with one Primary Domain Controller and two Backup
Domain Controllers, and a member server. All domain controllers (PDC
and BDCs) are running Gentoo Linux with Samba and LDAP. The member
server (fileserver) is a SUNS machine running Solaris. We do everything
(add, edit, modify groups and accounts) on the PDC and it will then sync
all the changes to the BDC by way of

Mac OS X 10.4 AD / Samba problems
I am having some problems with joining a Mac OS X
machine to my Win2k AD domain, that appear to be Samba
problems.
All home directroies in the domain are hosted on a
Suse 9.2 box running samba 3.0.9-2.3-SUSE. Windows
machines in the domain work fine, mounting a home
directory from the samba machine.
The Mac OS X machine half works. It domain users can
log into the Mac machine with their AD
