Canon multifunction printers / samba 3.0.2a / AIX 5.2ML2
Hello, I have problems setting up a canon multifunction ir7200. When I print the windows test page, I have something like "smiley" "arrow" "arow" "smiley" "arrow" name_of_the_samba_spool "smileys" driver.dll etc,etc,etc, on a single line. Did somebody used such a multifunction with Samba ? Below is a (long) description of what I did. I

Performance Samba 2.0.6 / FreeBSD 3.4 vs NT and NetWare
I'm getting samba setup, and it seems to be working. I have PDC/BackupPDC issues to resolve, and want to change things so the NT PDC authenticates users instead of setting them up using smbpasswd. Right now, I can access the samba box from Win98 and WinNT workstation with "manually setup" smbpasswd's. I have been testing performance and am a little disappointed, I hoped samba

new feature in 2.2.6 ?
Hi Jerry et al, will the 2.2.6 release show the printers in the 'add-new-printer-wizzard' on the client like the WINDOWS server do ? I'm not sure if you know what I mean, so here is a little illustration: ----------------------------- | NTSERVER | | \\ntserver\printer1 | | \\ntserver\printer2 | | \\ntserver\printer3 | | SAMBASERVER |

Help with smbpasswd file
Is there a procedure for copying the smbpasswd from an old machine to a new machine (fresh samba build), and have the new machine recognize the old smbpasswd file? Both machines are aix 6.1 and Samba version 3.5.12. I copied all of the .tdb files but that didn't seem to work. The new machine does not seem to know what is in /usr/local/samba/private/smbpasswd. Below is my smb.conf

WINS-Server != PDC ?
Hello, I have tried to find that info, but couldn't yet find it in TOSHARG or "Samba-3 By Example" : A client has one NT-PDC running without WINS-service and a Samba-Domain-Member-Server that is currently the WINS-Server. I have > [global] > workgroup = MYWG > netbios name = MAIL > interfaces = eth* lo > map to guest = Bad User > security = domain

Samba domain users VS "rogue" NT servers.
Hi All, We're having some problems using Samba and supposedly "standalone" rogue NT servers on one of our network domains. When an authenticated samba-served NT domain user on a client machine tries to access a share on a non BDC/PDC NT server that it part of the same samba domain, the standalone NT server sends it a message saying "Your logon time at NTDOMAIN has

Diagnosis Tests - Failed #5
I'm working on the first of a few Samba machines for our network. It's running RedHat 6.2 and Samba 2.0.7. On the NT 4.0 side of things I can see the machine (with the correct name) if I do NET VIEW or look in the Network Neighborhood. However, when I do "NET VIEW \\SambaServer" I get an Error 5 Access Denied. (Test 8) So I started on the diagnosis and got to Item 5. When I

tail -f doesn't work on a smbfs mount
I mount a WinNT share using a samba client version 2.2.5: smbmount -t smbfs -o username=user //ntserver/share /logs Then I want to watch a log generated by Internet Information Server (IIS) that grows continually: tail -f /logs/zzz.txt I can see the last lines in file zzz.txt the first time, but I don't get the new lines that are appended in such file. From any windows station I have

net rpc vampire
Ok folks, here goes: We have an old NT4 machine that we wish to replace as the PDC on our network. In it's place, we've got a dual xeon box with Mandrake LE2005 and Samba 3.0.13-2 and I'm currently trying to draw the accounts over with vampire. I'm using tdbsam as a backend. I've been through several readme's and howto's and have created all the UNIX accounts,

Broken pipe on ls after doing mount -t smbfs
I have a problem with smbmount. I have a linux server running E-Smith (or Mitel SME server as it is now) which is basically a cut down version of RedHat 7.0 (running Kernel 2.2.19-7.0.8smp). Samba version is 2.0.10. We are connecting to an NT server (service pack 3 - I must upgrade that sometime soon). We have quite a good tapedrive and backup software (3rd party) on the E-Smith server, whereas

using smbmount for NT share
I posted a previous thread about using smbmount, but I am still having some problems, using samba version 2.0.5a on SuSE 6.2. I issue the statement: smbmount //NTServer/share /mnt/test -Iaddress -Uid%pswd Afterwards, if I go to the mount directory, i.e. 'cd /mnt' and issue the command 'ls -l' I get an error message 'ls: test: Input/output error'. After that, the mount

samba, win98, and browse list problem.
Hello, Here's a repost on my message of a few days ago, for reasons that I'm not sure if it went through. If it did, my apologies, all suggestions welcome. I'm having an identical problem on slackware linux 7.0 and freebsd 3.4-release and windows 98-2, with sp1, and samba 2.05 and 2.06, depending on which system I've got up. Whenever I restart samba for whatever reason, making a

samba needed to network across openvpn tunnel
I have been assued in other places that I need to have Samba and Wins in place touse Windows networking across an openvpn tunnel. back history: There was a network in place when I was hired to replace the former it guy. All ran very smooth with only one networking issue. There were "fights" between the Windows server and the Linux box: The master browser has received a server
