Win9x Cannot Find Server, WinY2k Can
I have a Samba 3.0.0 PDC (and WINS server) that has been running fine for some time. I also have Samba fileserver running 3.0.0. The PDC is "littleboy" and the fileserver is "sardine". This configuration has been stable since the day after 3.0.0 came out, and we were running 3.0.0pre(s) on the PDC before 3.0.0 was released and that was stable as well. Now (or as of 10/16)

WinY2k Access Denied on Printing
I have a Red Hat Linux release 7.1 (Seawolf) Samba 2.2.4 PDC and fileserver built with --with-ldapsam. The clients are either win9x or WinY2k. Authenitcation, etc... all works great. But print sharing is a real pain. Under 2.2.1a printing worked great, but our VOIP phone system wouldn't joint the domain until we upgraded to 2.2.4. Initial testing of 2.2.4 made it seem like everything

Why (&(objectClass=sambaDomain)(sambaDomainName=SARDINE))?
I have a member server that is constantly querying the LDAP server with - (&(objectClass=sambaDomain)(sambaDomainName=SARDINE)) - when security=domain and workgroup=backbone. The server DOES authenticate domain users, and everything seems to work, but this draining resources. This is RH9, Samba 3.0.3pre2 (although I'm pretty certain I saw this on 3.0.2) and OpenLDAP openldap-2.1.25-1

Winbind trouble when on the DC
I have a situation where I want to do some authentication via ntlm_auth on my DC. I've tested this on my test box (a domain member) and it works perfectly. On domain member - tor:~ # /usr/bin/ntlm_auth --username=adam --domain=BACKBONE --password=******** NT_STATUS_OK: Success (0x0) On domain controller - littleboy:~ # /usr/bin/ntlm_auth --username=adam --domain=BACKBONE

One file open or locked way too many times. How to fix?
A Windows 2000 Server is a member server of the domain. The domain server is CentOS 4.5 with all updates and Samba 3.0.24 built using the packaging/RHEL/makerpms.sh script. The W2k server is opening this file on the samba server. This problem started several versions of CentOS and Samba ago, and I did the upgrades thinking it would fix it. It did not. It seems to be "locking" or

Samba vscan VFS Module
I'm trying to configure Samba's vscan on-access VFS module on a box with a working CLAM installation. [CLAM is merrily scanning mail on this box via clamav-milter]. I've set this up before, but this time it seems to be giving me grief. If I remove the vscan-clamav module then everything works, and I can open files. When I try to open a file with the module enable I just get a file

servername v. IP as domain name
When I navigate to my page using the server IP address, everything works perfectly. When I navigate to the page using servername, everything works fine except for the Ajax calls. I get the error, "This page is accessing information that is not under its control." Apparently this is because servername and IP address are being considered different domains. Does anyone know how I can set

CTDB + Likewise-open : What servername when joining AD?
Hi, [Context : ubuntu 11.11 64bits, cman, clvmd, gfs2, ctdb, samba, likewise-open, all running fine except...] I've setup ctdb to manage public_addresses (to manage one virtual ip actually), and I've explicitely told smb.conf that netbios name = foobar_cluster I've done that *after* I've manage to make samba, likewise-open and AD to work nicely together. I guess now all the

use client''s server variable instead of $servername?
Our puppetmaster runs on a host with multiple interfaces connected to various private networks, with different hostnames for each IP. I''m trying to use $servername in modules to copy files over a private network, but this is always set to the public hostname of the server. That route is blocked by a firewall. Is there a way to use the server variable in puppet.conf in manifests?

Unsightly lines from x*y grid in levelplot with Postscript
When I generate levelplot figures with Postscript, the lines from the underlying grid (i.e., the x and y in z ~ x* y) show up as faint white lines in the output. If I have a dense grid, the lines wash out the contour colors. I can avoid the problem if I use png instead, but that brings up other problems. Any ideas for how I can get Postscript to not show those lines around the cells? Scott

$servername when running standalone puppet
We have a client-server puppetmaster running puppetd and puppetmasterd, however I would like to test configurations locally before committing the changes on the puppetmaster. Running the puppet config locally with /usr/bin/puppet mostly works. The thing that fails ( which I have commented out on my local copy to test everything else ) is a erb template for puppet.conf that includes:

Initial replication halts with "The handle is invalid."
Adding a Windows2008RC to an SerNET S4 4.5.3 (forest level 2008R2) domain hangs at replication CN=Configuration received 1630 out of approximately 1663 objects.   Only message I can find in the event log on the 2008R2 server is -  Internal event: The local directory service received an exception from a remote procedure call (RPC) connection. Plotting multiple continuous lines with symbols
Hi, I am trying to plot multiple lines on one plot such that all lines are of the same color (black) and continuous. I need to distinguish these multiple plots from each other by using different symbols (I am using pch=). However, all my lines are broken on both sides of the symbols. This unfortunate (and unsightly) behavior seems to be the default. In my search of the help archives for R over

Print Job Notification
Can anyone suggest a way to have a notification after a print job has completed. I currently have this as my print command: lpr -r -P%p %s; csh -c 'echo \"%J has started printing on %S\" | /usr/bin/smbclient -U %L -M %m -I %I' & It kind of does what I want, but notice that the message says that "Job has STARTED printing on Printer". PDC machine name appears as Domain Name on PC profiles
I have the distribution Samba package 3.2.3 running under Ubuntu 8.10 Workstation, downloaded using Synaptics Package Manager. It is running as a PDC. On some of my Windows XP workstations, the Windows profiles appearing under System Properties >> Advanced >> User Profiles appear correct, in the form DOMAIN_NAME\USER_NAME. On others, however, they appear in the form
