SMB2 weird behavior with samba 3.6 PDC
I tried enabling SMB2 on our network after upgrading to samba 3.6 and experienced the following problems. Commenting out "Max Protocol = SMB2" makes the windows7 and vista clients happy. - [homes] Trying to open a html file in notepad fails on Windows7 Pro SP1. Opening it in Firefox (default browser) or Open Office works ok. - [homes] Mozilla Thunderbird insists on

Samba mapped drive to XP on logon
Hi- I'm having a recurring problem with Windows XP and a Samba share on logon. More specifically, I have a Samba (v 3.0.24 on Debian Etch) share with share permissions (not a domain) mapped to a drive in Windows XP Pro. Whenever someone logs onto an XP Pro computer in the network the drive isn't there. Here's an example: Say there's a document on the shared drive and a

XP Clients kicked off Tiger Server - not consistent
Hi, I am running a Panther Server as a domain controller with a Mac Tiger Server (all latest patches) as the location of home folders and group shares. I have one group of users who keep losing connection to the server (both home and group folders). The can only reconnect to the server if they logoff the XP client and login again. I have loads of other XP users and Mac clients who do not have

XP Clients missing in my network places
Hi All, Sorry if this is a re-post, I sent it in to gmane.network.samba.general yesterday and haven't seen it posted yet, so I decided to send it to the list. I am currently running samba 3.0.3 on Fedora Core 2 (Kernel 2.6.6). The samba server is running as the PDC for the domain, with no other servers and a handful of 98 and XP clients. The problem is that Windows XP clients will not show

PDC and logon script
Hi everyone, I have a question about the logon script command. I've read and read and read the man page for smb.conf. In essence, I've duplicated the settings on the PDC how-to document to create a PDC with a logon script. However, when I log in, the scrips doesn't run. The only thing I don't have enabled, like the how-to, is roaming profiles. I'll include my smb.conf for

Roaming profile and logon script on Windows XP
Hi there! I set up samba 2.2.8a as a Windows PDC. Everything worked fine (joining the domain, roaming profile, passwd changing) until I wanted a logon script. Now I got the error message, that the client can not load it's profile and it creates a temprary profile. Without the logon script everything is fine. Is there a collision between the logon home drive and the logon script?? Or what

Changing password from Windows 2K / XP client on samba server with different passwords on client and server
Hello all, I've got a problem when I try to change a password from W2K or XP on a samba 2.2.5 - server. That's the situation: The user "hugo" is logged on locally or in a domain "first" with his password "secret". The user has shares on a secound domain, the "samba" domain, too. The user can do a net use M: \\samba\share to get the share on the

Setting user permissions (acl) with standalone server & Win XP
Hello, I am trying to provide our users a way to change file/folder permissions on public share on samba (3.0.28a) ROLE_STANDALONE server. ACL's are working fine but the problem is to get list of users and groups on samba server via Windows XP Professional (SP3). When I open 'Select users or groups' dialog and pressing 'Find now' button the Windows asks my Samba

Problems with SAMBA as PDC and Windows XP SP2 as client
Hi!! We are trying to configure a Debian Linux Server as Samba Server (Domain Controller) and a Windows XP (with Service Pack 2) as client. We have configured Windows into the Samba Domain (in other words, we have been able to agregate the machine into the domain), but when we restart Windows and try to login with a samba user (from linux server) (selecting the Domain), we received a message

Guest Share Access Fails for Win XP Client
Hi, I'm trying to set up a transfer area between my RH9 box and my WXP box. Preferably no password would be required on the WXP box, but I'll take anything after the ridiculous amount of time I've spent on this. If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it. At this point I'd be willing to offer my first born child as a reward. And I'll throw in my mother in law free. :)

2.2.5, xp and incorrect logon drive as root
Hi @all, I set up 2.2.5 as PDC. With an XP-Client and log on as an simular user as root (I'm mapping "Administrator" to root in /etc/user.map) the logon home directory is the share "root". What is the reason for that? Is "root" a not usable name for a share? configure-options: ./configure \ --host=i486-pc-linux-gnu \ --target=i486-pc-linux-gnu \ --prefix=/usr \

XP connection problem (start-up only)
I have a problem with XP (one is XP-Home, other XP-Pro). Whilst both can connect to samba (redhat 7.2 - downloaded lastest version samba last week and installed) XP refuses to reconnect the drives if I restart the XP computer, or log off and log back in again. Therefore I have to double-click on the network drive in My Computer everytime I start the computer and re-type the password. (this is a

Samba 3.0.2a + Win2K clients: unreliable share access
After upgrading from 3.0.1 to 3.0.2a, accessing a shared folder has become unreliable: after being able to access my shares for some time I get an error message "No domain contoller was available" (actually, I'm paraphrasing that one, I unfortunately did not record it verbatim). Host linux log contains the following error message for each access: Mar 5 20:07:08 sharesmb01

PDC with XP Clients, logon timeouts
Hi everybody, I am attempting to switch 2 networks from Netware servers to Samba configured as a domain controller. 1 network that is less critical became the 'guinea pig' network. It is the one I am currently working to get the kinks out of. We like the Samba servers a lot more than we liked the Netware servers, they are much faster. So far I have 2 Linux machines running 3.0.10, We
