Lagging failed login attempts
Samba 2.2.8a on Suse 8 (part of SLOX system - no I can't upgrade until Suse upgrade the system) Windows XP Pro clients Are failed client logins on the XP clients logged anywhere ? How about non-domain member clients accessing shares ? I've been asked to provide a log of failed login attempts with a view to spotting break-in attempts (apparently auditors like that sort of thing). There

Can't print properly through server, only direct client->printer
We are having great problems printing from XP clients through our Samba server. We are using the Adobe PS driver, and are configured for automatic driver download/install from the server. Samba is 2.2.8a and part of a Suse OpenExchange server, printing is through CUPS. Printers are an assortment of different makes of Postscript (and compatible) lasers. Basically, we have 'wierd'

Suse Linux OpenExchange Server (Samba 2.2.5) and XP
Sorry of I'm going over old ground ... We are in the process of putting in a Suse Linux OpenExchange Server (SLOX) which at present includes Samba 2.2.5*. We are also attempting to use this as a PDC for XP clients that we are going to be rolling out. Now, everything seems to be going down the pan, and it looks like the problem is that XP has dropped support for 'old style'

Cross-subnet browsing (again)
I have a network with several sites, and all clients (mostly win9x) using one WINS server (Samba on RH Linux). The different sites have one or more workgroups each, and I want all workgroups to be visible and browsable for all clients. As far as I can make out, the clients at the various networks can only browse the workgroups which are either local or the one the WINS server is a member of. Not

SCO OpenServer 5.0.6a and missing libncurses.so.4
I've downloaded Samba 2.2.6 (binaries) from SCOs Skunkware site, but when I try and run smbclient I get a message : dynamic linker : smbclient : error opening /usr/local/lib/libncurses.so.4 Killed I've checked and there is no libncurses.so.4 (or libncurses.<anything> for that matter) on the system. I've also failed to find anything relevant in either the list archive or SCOs

Devices not appearing/Manually add devices to Browse List ?
I'm not quite sure whether this is a plain browsing problem, or a wins problems, or ... I had wins running on one machine (Samba(2.0.5a)/SCO Unix), but my main file server on another (Samba (2.2.1a)/Linux). I moved the wins support to the Linux server, and at the same time I made the Linux server the Domain Master Browser, but now some devices have dissapeared from the network. The devices

Strange delay in syscall close() on a large ext3-filesystem
Dear Mailinglist, this morning I had a very strange problem with my SuSE Groupware-Server SLOX 4.1. The webmail-access was very slow and even with thunderbird the access to my mailboxes was not okay. I rebooted the whole system, but the problem still was there. I thought, this may be a problem with cyrusd, but I realized, that the error was somewhere deeper in the system, maybe in the

Latest samaba updates
When I let yum install the latest samba updates, it ate my smb users file and smb.conf. Once I restored those, it gave me several selinux avc denials, one of which I can't clear up. See http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=2965 for details. Anyone else having problems like this? Dave

Redhat 8.0 and Samaba 2.2.5
First, let me apologize if this is a simple question, I am trying to get away from Microsoft and learn Linux. In the past, on my Linux test server I have installed samba 2.2.3a and a seperate install of winbind for that same version. I followed the directions I've seen posted and it all works well. I tried to upgrade to 2.2.5 but winbind wouldnt work. So I went back down to 2.2.3a This was

Authentication delays in Samaba 3.0.10
Hello, We have recently upgraded to samba 3.0.10 (RedHat 7.3) and are now having authentication delays with some of our shares. We are using unencrypted passwords so we can use the pam system-auth...we have the plaintext registry patch on all windows machines that are connecting. The problem is that if you manually connect or browse to a share from a windows box (2k or XP), the client sends your

How to build samba-debuginfo rpm from samaba source
Hi Samba team, Is there a command or a way to build samba-debuginfo rpm from the samba source. I have been through wiki.samba.org, but failed to find out. Explored the Makefile targets, even there I did not find the make target to build debuginfo package or RPM. Thanks in advance for your help. https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Writing_a_Samba_VFS_Module -> this page mentions to install

Can't get password policies (bad lockout attempt) to work on Samaba 3 + OpenLDAP
Hi, I have a Debian stable (woody aka 3.0) machine. I am moving my existing samba 2.x installation (that has users stored in smbpasswd) to samba 3.0.4 with LDAP as the backend. I am able to move the users to LDAP just fine. However, the password policy of bad lockout attempt does not seem to work. I installed the samba deb file from the samab.org site. I also have OpenLDAP slapd
