3.0.7; "string overflow by 1 (32 - 31) in safe_strcpy"
Hello,
I'm using samba 3.0.4 (on RHL9) as a W2k3 domain member in an ADS realm. For
printing I'm using CUPS of RHL9. The XP clients get the CUPS printers (CUPS
redirects the printjob to the JetDirect card of the printer) and the
appropriate PCL drivers installed via the "Point 'n Print" mechanism. The
clients get their printers installed via de AD login script and the there

Prevent drag and drop within Samba shares
Hello,
Is there a parameter in smb.conf that prevent users to use drag and drop
within Samba shares?
I know this is a Winedow$ function, but some users (hum, hum) use Explorer
to open their files and
accidentally they drag and drop sometimes a directory in the root of the
share to another directory in the root of the share.

"user 'root' does not exist" in winbindd.log after upgrade from 3.0.2a to 3.0.3
Dear list,
After the upgrade from 3.0.2a to 3.0.3 I see in my winbindd.log file all the time "user
'root' does not exist" messages.
I didn't get these messages with my 3.0.2a samba setup, but after the upgrade to
3.0.3 it is flooding my winbindd.log file, sometimes I get this message every minute in
my log file.

Issues after upgrade to 3.0.6 from 3.0.4; fixed in 3.0.7?
Hello,
I run samba 3.0.4 on a RHL9 server. Samba is a domain member of a W2k3 ADS
and I use CUPS as printing mechanism; therefore Samba is compiled with
Kerberos 1.3.1-7 and cups-devel.
3.0.4 runs pretty good, printing via CUPS runs well too, only the following
messages I see constantly (this flooding my logs) while using 3.0.4:

global catalog servers in the XXXX.COM realm.

PANIC: internal error; winbind daemon (3.0.4) crashes
Hello,
I'm using samba 3.0.4, compiled with Kerberos 1.3.1-7, in an W2k3 ADS
environment and Kerberos and the Winbind daemon are used for authentication.
While checking a winbindd.log file I saw the following PANIC internal error:

Serious bug in Samba 3.0.2pre1 !!!
Summarization of the bug in Samba 3.0.2pre1:
It seems that an ADS group is not valid or detected anymore to access a
samba share, in case only an ADS group is used a valid user on a Samba
share, because Kerberos is reporting: Username (null) is invalid on this
system.
Besides that, connecting to a share (service) reports with Samba 3.0.0-2
REALM\username (NH-TEST.NL\fo6), but with Samba 3.0.2pre1

net ads join fails on W2K3 server with latest MS patches
Hi All,
For the past few months I've been running a SUSE 9.2 server here
(mostly as an app server) which was a member of an AD domain
(w2k3 domain controller.) I used winbind to enable domain members
to log into the box, all was well.
This week the w2k3 server had some MS security patches applied
and suddenly logins became impossible, because winbind was unable
to retrieve user info from the

Strange problems with Samba 3.0.32 as ADS member of W2k3 domain
hello,
i've some strange problems with my samba-servers acting as domain-member
(ADS) in a W2k3 active directory.
we have 3 DCs here and running samba without specifying a dedicated "password server"
doesn't work! the 3 DCs have the following roles:
- DC1: PDC-emulator, has global catalog
- DC2: RID-master, infrastructure-master, no global catalog
- DC3: no special role,

Printers Showing up on Alternate Server Names
Hi all,
I am running samba 3.0.6. I am having an issue on my print server
regarding how the printer ends up registering itself on the Windows
clients. We have a machine named "bob", "bob" has an alias both in DNS
and in the netbios name in Samba of "printserver", "bob" has an IP
address of 192.168.1.1. In a seemingly random fashion sometimes when I

Numerous errors trying to authenticate samba against w2k3
My goal is to authenticate a Windows 2003 Server user from a FreeBSD
4.10 box via samba. A week ago I had this working. I then needed to
verify the procedure and test on a fresh install. Now it doesn't work,
despite doing the same steps (I think).
I generated a Kerberos ticket on the w2k3 box and transfered it to the
FreeBSD box. I used the ktutil command to incorporate the ticket into

SunOS-5.8 / Samba-2.2.0 W2K3 Domain Shares
Hello,
We have a scientific instrument being controlled by a SparcStation (under
SunOS-5.8) and running Samba-2.2.0 that has joined the campus wide W2K3
domain. I am currently in the process of trying to setup the smb.conf file
so that users of a W2K3 security group can access a single share on the
instrument. If this is pedestrian to ask, please forgive me.

Samba 3.0.7, WinXP Pro SP2 printing issues with netbiosnames.
Hi
We're currently experiencing some problems that wasn't a problem in 3.0.4.
Since SP2 was installed printers get connected \\<ipaddress>\<printer-name>
instead of \\<netbios-name>\<printer-name>. It's more common on SP2
machines but it happens on non-SP2 machines.
Although these issues are not consistent.
