Hi all, I've got kind of strange setup, wherein all of my data is on a big NFS server (RH linux 8.0 running the 2.4.18 kernel and nfs-utils 1.0.1-2.80) and my Samba 3.0.0 PDC server (RH linux 7.3 w/ 2.4.18 kernel, nfs-utils 0.3.3-6.73) mounts the NFS export with the following options: rw,vers=3,wsize=8192,rsize=8192,hard,intr This mounted partition is then re-exported to the windows users

Very slow file copy performance over a WAN (HELP)
Hi, I've noticed that over a WAN (T1) I'm getting incredibly slow file copy performance. Using smbclient on a linux machine on one size of the WAN, As you can imagine, this makes all of our file shares unusable over the WAN. It's not an issue with WAN performance, because using scp to transfer the same file, I get speeds of ~145k/s. A tcpdump of the file copy of ~2MB file that actually

with streams_xattr enabled, ads are written correctly but not retrieved
Hello, I'm running Samba 3.6.6-1 on my x64 Arch Linux installation. I recently decided to have my samba share support NTFS's Alternate Data Streams by using streams_xattr or streams_depot. With streams_xattr I discovered that if I copy a file having an ADS from a win7 box, on the linux console, I can see the ADS as an xattr attached to the file. However when I copy the file back to my

sendfile questions...
Why in smbd/reply.c does send_file_readX only use sendfile if write cache size is 0? <snip> if (chain_size ==0 && (CVAL(inbuf,smb_vwv0) == 0xFF) && lp_use_sendfile( SNUM(conn)) && (lp_write_cache_size(SNUM(conn)) == 0) ) { </snip> While its true send_file_readX works regardless of the state of oplocks (which is cool!) the smb.conf.5

ADS data crippled after joining Samba into active MS domain
Hi together, after joining Samba 4.1.6 into our domain with 2 MS Win2008 R2 DCs on last Friday, we had got 2 accidents: 1. one of our users couldn't access his Exchange account any more (the relation to the correct mailbox database was empty) 2. Exchange 2010 Outlook Web Access (OWA) fails today on Monday with following error message: [PS] C:\Windows\system32>Get-OwaVirtualDirectory

option -l of smbd ignored
Hi, the option -l (name of logfile) of smbd is ignored in samba 2.0.6. The reason: In smbd/server.c first the argument of the option is copied to the variable debugf. Then debugf is initialized with SMBLOGFLE (default value). "log file" in the configuration file works. Samba 2.2.8a and HP-UX 11.11 (11i)
I read a message from the archives that describes nearly our exact problem that has begun to appear after 11i was installed on our server. File access has become slow and unreliable, especially under high loads. As a matter of fact, I had a logon script running a series of echo -- it was executing them at about 1 line every 2 seconds. The way we "solved" the problem was moving the Samba

Still having trouble with slow opening of printer properties
List, I asked a while back about problems with very slow openings of printer properties windows. This afternoon our main internet link was upgraded to 6Mb (symmetric) and so I thought I might see some improvements in response. But no change. I really don't think it's the pipe that's at fault, there's something wrong with my samba configuration. When I open the properties of a

File size limits with samba 3.0.20b and FreeBSD 5.3
We're seeing problems with copying files > 2BG to a samba share. Google says that, as of 2004, there was a 2GB file size limit in that scenario, but I haven't found anything more recent. Is that still the case or am I looking at a different problem? Thanks, Graham

32/64bit locking problem with 2.2.2
Hi there, I have a quite ugly problem with a Samba server. The server is running Linux 2.4.13 and Samba 2.2.2. The NFS-client is running Linux 2.4.5. The windows homedirs are on \\server\username, the UNIX homedirs are NFS mounted by the server. So, whenever I access \\server\username this actually NFS-mounts /nfs/client/home/username. I now have one client machine that causes the following

Help with error log entry and terrible performance
When an XP box is reading a file from the Samba server performance is what you would expect with 100 mbs ethernet. When uploading a large file (>1 meg) performance is very slow. 1/20th what I would expect. The Samba server log has these entries: posix_fcntl_lock: WARNING: lock request at offset 12226560, length 61440 returned [2004/12/24 17:28:52, 0] locking/posix.c:posix_fcntl_lock(658)
