Problems syncing Samba and Linux passwords
Hi all, I'm trying to sync unix/samba passwords, but I experience problems when running smbpasswd as a normal user (not as root). The error message is "machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the password change: Error was : RAP86: The specified password is invalid." Of course, trying to change passwords from Windows clients does not work. After some googling I've found out that I'm not

Can't reset password from windows 2000, or from the samba pdc. Error from samba pdc: machine127.0.0.1 rejected the password change: Error was : RAP86:The specified password is invalid.
Salim, Yes I do have permission to run the passwd command as a local user, I can change the unix password just fine. It is when I do the smbpasswd command that that error comes up. Thanks for looking at this! Tony --- Salim Zakharia <Salim@mdsuae.ae> wrote: > Try to check if users have permission to run: > /usr/bin/passwd let user > try to change his password locally on

Can't reset password from windows 2000, or from the samba pdc. Error from samba pdc: machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the password change: Error was : RAP86: The specified password is invalid.
I have a samba pdc running 3.0.4. I have users logging into the profile server and wanting to change there password. However when they try to change the password it asks them for the old and new password but says they do not have permission to change the password. I can change the password for them when I log into the pdc as root but when I try to do it as user it gives the error: machine

After migrating users to ldap, passwords still stored in passdb.tdb
I am running Samba ver 3.0.33 on Solaris 10 (sparc.) Initially I had the server configured as a domain controller with the "passdb backend = tdbsam" option. The underlying unix accounts were stored in LDAP (Sun Directory Server.) Those accounts are also used for non-Samba services. Since I have domain trusts with NT domains, I am using winbind and idmapping. The idmap data was

Encrypted passwords really necessary for PDC ?
I've attached a perl script that I wrote to build smbpasswd from /etc/passwd. Please note that this writes a samba-2.0 format smbpasswd file. This script will: # - create accounts that exist in /etc/passwd and not in smbpasswd # - remove accounts that exist in smbpasswd and not in /etc/passwd # - preserve existing password, flags and LCT fields in smbpasswd # - sets new account passwords to

Password change problem, Samba 3.0.4
Greetings list. I've been trolling the archives and google searches all morning and cannot seem to come up with an answer to this, though I'm not the first to experience the problem. I'm running samba on FreeBSD 5.2.1-p4, installed from the ports collection. When a user other than root attempts to change an smb password (either through SWAT or with smbpasswd) I get the following

I searched the archives of the samba@lists.samba.org mailman list, and did not see any questions of this nature for the last two months. Additionally, I exhausted my search on

Dear all, when I try to change my password as ordinary user using "smbpasswd", I get the following error message: machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the password change: Error was : RAP86: The specified password is invalid. I'm sure my old password is correct and the new password also. If I change the ordinary user password as root, everything works fine... I would appreciate your help,

smbpassword and smb.conf
I have been trying to use security=domain and hence have to use smbpassword to create a domain account. Since my default setup has an smb.conf file in a non-standard place, my primary smb.conf file consists of [global] config file=/path/to/smb.conf.%h This works fine for smbd and nmbd but trying to run smbpassword returns the following error ./bin/smbpasswd -j DOMAIN No password server list

Samba v3.0.23a BROKE my network
I run Samba as a PDC for a small network. I used to use smbpassword and went through the pain of changing up to tdbsam. I have just upgraded from v3.0.14a to v3.0.23a. The immediate effect was that nobody could use their domain log in any more. I was upset. My users wished me to understand their frustration. It was not my fault. I became cross. The dog got my dinner (it's an ill
