Windows XP local services not starting automatically after joining samba domain
Hi, I am trying to setup a Samba PDC with Windows XP Pro Clients. I currently run a Samba 2.2 PDC and am trying to change over to a Samba 3.0.5 PDC with an LDAP backend. I can join the domain fine, but from there things are getting rough. The Samba server is running on a Fedora Core 2 box with all the current updates and all my clients are XP Pro. As soon as I logon (with any account), I get

NT4 migration errors
Hi I've setup samba 3.0.14 with the latest idealx scripts on FC3. Now I have a test lab to migrate from NT4 box which different than the standalone PDC I have running. Here's the order I used and my ldap and samba configs are clean as far as I can tell since I do get a partial migration. When using 'net rpc vampire -S nt4 -W DOMAIN' it populates the groups from NT4 and shows the

smbldap-useradd says "Error: modifications require authentication at /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/smbldap_tools.pm line 1056."
I'm trying to get Samba 3.0.23d set up to run as a PDC on SuSE 10.2. I'm getting *very* close, but I have one small issue. I can't add users. When I run: smbldap-useradd -a <a new user> -m I get the following in the messages file: Mar 6 13:59:38 macallan slapd[4731]: conn=50 fd=24 ACCEPT from IP=127.0.0.1:11246 (IP=0.0.0.0:389) Mar 6 13:59:38 macallan slapd[4731]: conn=50

Question on approach to authenticate Linux against Samba4
This is in a test environment: Also, it is wordy, but I'm hoping it explains my scenario. I am migrating from a custom LDAP+Samba3 authentication solution to Samba4. I have used the classicupgrade option to pull off the data from the existing ldap server to populate the samba4 database. I've installed AD DS and Server for NIS tools on a Windows 2008 server that is connected to the Samba4

smbldap-populate issues?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi guys, I appear to have some issues with smbldap-populate, this used to work fine but I've recently upgraded the dev box from RH8.0 to Fedora Core 1, I assume it's related but I'm not sure exactly how... As you can see the first ou creates work, so it must at least be binding to the ldap server, but it seems to have a problem with the

Samba PDC + Openldap (no database connection established after reboot)
Hi, all. I really need your helps in determing what I did wrong. I have been trying to setup Samba PDC (not using TLS at this initial stage yet) by hand on SLES 9.1 and did not use YAST because somehow it just did not work. I followed all the steps from the "The Linux Samba-OpenLDAP Howto (1.10) from IDEALX.org) and Chapter 5 Making Happy Users from the book and a bunch of other

error "you do not have permission to change your password"
Hi everyone, I have had a problem for a while now, and haven't been able to figure it out on my own, so I'm asking for help. When a user tries to change their password they receive the aforementioned error. I am running Samba 3.0.10 on CentOS 4.4 (Red Hat Enterprise) with an LDAP backend. I have the smbldap-tools scripts installed and have them setup in my smb.conf (see below). What I

smbldap-populate problem
I am trying to merge our addressbook, courier-imap, postfix, and samba PDC entries into a single ldap directory. I have vampired all the data from our current PDC to use for testing and it seems that everything is merged and works. I am writing the docs and I have, for the first time, tried to run smbldap-useradd for a user who is both a posix user and windows user. I got an error that the next

Samba with 389 Directory Server Auth problem
Hi Folks, I had a crack at setting up a Samba PDC using a fresh installation of FDS 1.2.4 as the backend on one of our RHEL 5.3 servers per the Wiki Howto:Samba but ran into a few issues. In the section 'Populating FDS with PDC Entry', it instructs the user to run 'net getlocalsid'. This results in the following: [root at mybox logs]# net getlocalsid

In this vm ldapsam:editposix. OK. I have just created a posix-only user in openldap. And then tried smbpasswd -a test01.

Could not find base dn, to get next uidNumber
Hi all, I've got a problem on a pdc based on: - Fedora Core 2 - samba-3.0.10-1.fc2 - openldap-2.1.29-1 - smbldap-tools-0.9.1-1.1.fc2.rf Today I've updated smbldap-tools from version 0.8.1 to 0.9.1. looking at the new configuration files (smbldap.conf in particular) I've noticed the default value of sambaUnixIdPooldn has changed from the version I've used until now - 0.8.1

smbldap-tools problem with Samba 3.0.1/LDAP 2.1.22/Fedora Core 1
I'm trying to setup a samba PDC/BDC with disconnected auth. and am stuck at step one because I can't get smbldap-tools to work right. First when I do a smbldap-useradd.pl -a test, it works fine. ldapsearch shows the entry properly. Then I try smbldap-usershow.pl or smbldap-userdel.pl or any other one for that matter and they all fail with a "user test does not exist"! Also if I

Adding workstations to domain as non-root
Hi, The Problem: I have a samba domain using LDAP as the backend, complete with the IdealX LDAP scripts. Most of my Unix boxes (certainly anything which does any Samba stuff) authenticates against the same LDAP backend, using it for groups and users. I need to grant some people sufficient priviliges to add workstations to the domain, but I don't want to give them the root password in
